Its been a busy week at work, so my golf fix has had to be fulfilled by making "easy" swings in my apartment without access to a range or course. Pulled out my wedge and started practicing some chip shots off the carpet with those little spongy balls. Nice. Even landed one in a pot that was sitting in the sink! Obviously feeling pretty swell and all that. Pulled out my spanking new 3 wood (havent been able to hit it yet, im sure you guys can empathize), and start making some super slow motion swings. God. Thing feels great. I admire it in the light for a while, pat myself on the back for choosing to purchase such a fantastic club and imagine myself belting it all over the course (standard Honeymoon period feelings about a new club). Do another little 20% swing. Then, take the club back (super slowly, I swear) to see how it feels at the top, club head knocks my light fixture and the ENTIRE thing explodes and showers onto the floor. ......... ......... Finally bring myself to look up. Turn around and the thing is completely shattered. I spend the next hour tiptoeing around picking up shards of glass, cursing myself for being so dumb. Needless to say, the spring cant come soon enough. Anyone else have stories about wrecking your living space as a result of a golf addiction. There have to be others!!

Somewhat like CG. Never felt comfortable choking down. Always liked having the full weight/shaft below my hands. Problem was my putter was 35", eyes were in the clouds and putts were all over the place!! Cut the putter down to 33" and its all better now. Although the backaches are getting worse!

Stu, been having the same problem forever. And I found a graph that helps me visualize it a little bit better and realize how to get the club "in the slot" like you say. Sadly, I still get lazy and come over the top. Anyway, maybe you could do better with it. If I remember correctly, Jim Furyk and Rickie F seem to have a pretty exaggerated version of this transition because the take the club up very high and really have to drop their hands down to get back on plane.

Ugh. Sorry for the sideways photos guys. If you don't want to crane your neck, PM me and ill send you the rotated versions lol.

For Sale is a Nike Vr Tour Staff Bag still with tags. It is in mint condition has tragically never been outdoors (YET!). The only thing is that it has a name "Hugh Hall" sewn in the front pocket along with a Kia logo. (If your name HAPPENS is Hugh Hall, I will give this bag to you for $175, just because of the marvelous coincidence ). You can get this sewn on writing off fairly easily, either by yourself or at an embroidery store. I didn't do it because I was lazy. Ultimately, this is a fantastic leather bag of exceptional quality. It comes with the raincover and plenty of space in the front for raingear/shoes and in the back pockets for balls, tees etc. If you dont want to be hacking around the local course with a glistening staff bag in the cart, this could be a great option for the spare clubs at home, in the man-cave or in the office. Shipping not included. Will get a quote if required. PM me if interested!

Hey y'all, I don't really want to part ways with this driver, but it is my backup and can't justify such a great club sitting in my closet. It is a 9.5* Titleist 909D2 with a 96 gram Proforce V2 Tour Stiff shaft. Its heavy as far as driver shafts go but they feel (especially in the transition) was great for me. Normal wear on face (would say 8.5/10) and one scratch from a skier (did my best to show this in photos). Apart from that, the crown is in fantastic condition as it the sole of the club (the brown smudge is a reflection from a wall fixture!). It is gripped with a yellow Golf Pride multi compound that I put in there just recently. I'm asking for $175 + shipping. No returns. PM me and I will provide more photos if you guys want! Thanks.

How many of you do not use a driver?
vikramraju replied to GJBenn85's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Totally agree with the below. I went through a stage earlier this season where I just couldnt keep my driver in play. I was quite honestly playing out of the woods most holes. One day im at the course and as I was taking my clubs out I just left the big stick in the trunk and decided to tee of mostly with a 3 wood. Anyways, scores starting improving immediately and I don't feel self-concious about not using the driver at all. I usually get some flak from my buddies for "wussing out", but I'm more concerned about making pars -
Reshafting my Titleist 15* Strong 3 Wood
vikramraju replied to vikramraju's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks for the input y'all. KC, I actually looked at the at the NV75 (great shaft), but after a swing test ended up getting the Proforce V2 that I found at a great price. Just got it installed and cant wait to hit it! -
I have a Titleist 15* 980F Strong 3 Wood with a DGS300 shaft that I found at a second hand golf store for cheap so I picked it up. I already have a 3 wood that I like in the bag (see sig), and the Titleist couldnt really displace that given the stiff steel shaft and my notoriously low ball flight. I finally decided to try and replace the DGS300 shaft with some sort of graphite shaft to knock it around and give me an alternative, because the poor thing has been sitting around collecting dust. I play PX 5.5 in my irons and general play stiff clubs, and am looking for some mid to high ball flight. Anyone have any suggestions? Looking for something under $75.

iacas, i too was skeptical of the grass cutting statement lol, but the diagram in my post sort of confirms this idea. at least that is what can be inferred from it lol.
-
Tire analogy --> you got it. As Paradox says, the "groove" part of Cleveland's zip groove technology isn't actually "grasping" the ball. With the sharp edge of the zip groove, the grass is cut and full lodges inside the groove rather than just lying on it, thus keeping the face clean of grass (see link). If the grooves are blunt or rounded, the grass isn't severed and just stays on the face of the club, thus limiting contact with the ball. When people sharpen grooves, they are allowing grass to be cut and not remain idle on the clubface. The diagram on the cleveland website shows this best... "The technology of Zip Grooves creates a larger groove volume which channels more debris than traditional grooves to improve contact with the ball." - Cleveland Engineer Nerds. The say nothing about the grooves themselves. http://www.clevelandgolf.com/US_zip_grooves.html
-
Hey, whatever you wish to believe. I guess the variety in sentiments is fairly well documented in that link too. This theory just makes more sense IMO. I would need to be convinced with science otherwise. At the end of the day, just keep your grooves clean. Your clubs last longer lol.
-
oops...meant "more facetime and more spin"
-
Wow, easy dude. Either I ain't explaining this right or you are misunderstanding. "What a groove does is simply channel moisture, dirt, and grass away from the golf ball, resulting in cleaner contact between ball and club." --> basically what I was trying to say, sorry if I didn't make that clear. The longer the ball is in contact with the clubface... the more spin you get. There probably is still a *slight* impact on the fairway with caked grooves because the grooves are unable get rid of minor debris moisture, but like you said if the ball is struck correctly, then there isnt really much of anything coming between the clubface and the ball, so spin is still being imparted onto the ball. Assuming the caking is only in the grooves, the complete face of the clubface is *still in contact with the ball*. The driver analogy in that link is a pretty good way to think about it. The reason balls of out the rough dont spin, is that even with a some grass being taken away from contact, there is still a lot of grass between the ball and the clubface. If you're in very fluffy greenside grass, don't you give yourself more room for roll on chips?? http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/sandblaster-golf-sandblaster-sand-wedge.html This wedge is pretty much the extreme version of the theory. It passes through sand so that there is a minimal amount of sand between the ball and the club at impact, i.e. more facetime and less spin. "The grooves on a club give the face grip on the ball which in turn adds spin to the ball " --> I believe that this statement you make isn't actually correct. To rephrase, the grooves get junk out of the way *so that* the face can grip the ball.
