  1. My putting had turned into an absolute disaster a few weeks ago but i had always planned on getting a new putter and my birthday came up and that was my present from a few mates. So with the putter i went to the practice green and putted for about an hour, just getting my confidence up. I had a round the other day and i literally couldnt miss. Ended up shooting 3 over for 9 holes (all that i could fit in) which was amazing considering my handicap but it was definatly my putting which makes my game. So most likely your not in the market for a new putter however just hit up the practice green and putt and putt and putt some more to get your confidence back up. Its the key
  2. I tend to feel that the Hogan balls are overlooked. The tour deeps are so soft and are great around the green as well as off the Tee. They are a little bit pricey but nowhere near as bad as pro V's. However steer clear if you have a wedge that loves to eat the ball. they get torn up really easilly.
  3. Thanks heaps for all the quick replies. Im going to take on board all of your tips and head down to the range tomorrow. Ill try and even get a video or 2 to show you my swing incase i cant seem to fix it. I have a feeling it could be something to do with how i set up. The Ball is at my front foot which makes me open up my chest because my right shoulder comes forward so i can stretch to the ball. Rather than keeping my feet, knees, hips and shoulders all in line, my shoulders aim left which opens me up. Usually i think this would cause slice but since i extend my arms on the follow through it only pushes it right and doesnt get a slice. Sorry its hard to explain but ill take a video tomorrow and show you what i mean. Thanks a lot.
  4. Ive recently adopted a new driver (superquad) and i love it, as i have never hit drivers before, dont ask why. But i am hitting them about 270 yards consistently but i seem to start the ball right and it stays right (about 25yards right of intended direction) (im a right hander) I have checked my lining up to the ball, as well as trying to close the club face a little at address. What could be some other causes? For me at the moment is to aim that bit further left and then it'll go straight. Any suggestion? Thanks a lot.
  5. So today was my first round with my Superquad and Odyssey XG#1 putter. Playing off about 20 my golf isnt exactly super and so the first hole today i hit a nice drive only to follow it up with some miserable iron shots including one into the water to end up with a 9. I struggled on for the rest of the 9 to end up with a 47 with 16 putts. Then i had we had a quick break at the half way, got some food into me (health food ofcourse). On the 10th, 240yard par 3 put it on the green and a 2 put to par. from then on my game was locked and loaded. I knew i was playing alright golf and a mate counted up the scores the end and goes what do you think you had. i said "41?", he said "lower", i said "40?", "lower", "39?", "lower" and then he was so annoyed with me guessing he said "35". I obviously didnt believe him so i re-counted it, but he was right. I was stoked. Ended up with a 82 with 30 putts which i was VERY happy with. Ive never used a driver before and decided it DOES make all the difference, a good drive just sets you up.
  6. Only had time for 9 holes today, had to dash off. Shot 5 over, which i was VERY happy with considering my handicap.
  7. haha Im not lying at all about the distance of my 5 iron. I dont have the best swing but a use a whole not of body momentum me and a mate both hit the same distances as we have a very similar swing and neither of us use drivers and thats why im looking at getting one. I havent actaully had my iron swing speed measured but about 106 is what im swinging with a driver at the golf shops. Id play serious golf once every 6 weeks or so and thats why my handicap isnt so good as its more of a social game for me. The other day i played seriously and shot an 84. but it is my short game that lets me down. ANYWAY back onto the topic. Ive only been playing this game for a year or 2 on and off and i have never hit a driver as my long iron shots im so comfortable with but i thought its about time i get a driver as i have been offered one for my birthday from a group of mates. So the question was do you think i'd notice the difference in an expensive driver (titleist 907) as opposed to a more moderatly priced driver (callaway big bertha 460). Ive got a few mates who have the older versions of the titleist and ive hit them and love them for some reason they just work for me. and the other question was about shaft stiffness and if i should get a stiffened shaft? if i got it custom fitted i wouldnt know what is good for me as i havent hit a whole lot of drivers except demo ones at driving ranges. So would it still be worth it?
  8. Im in the market for a new driver and price doesnt matter (its a present) Ive been heading to the range and trying out all diferent sorts, from the lower price to the higher price. Ended up loving the Titleist 907 D2 9.5 stiffened shaft. Thats the only driver i hit with a stiffened shaft and maybe thats why i loved it so much, all the others i was hitting a regular shaft. Every person i talk to about drivers has differing opinions regarding shaft stiffness. I am swinging at about 105-107mph, hitting my 5 iron about 185m (approx 200yards) off the deck. I have been told a can go either way with shaft stiffness and i was therefore wondering, if i went the Titleist with the stiffened shaft as opposed to the regular shaft what would happen? WOuld i get more control and a little less distance? What do you recommend? Do you think i would notice the difference, considering im playing off about 20, hitting a $600 driver as opposed to a $400 driver (Australian Dollars)? Cheers
  9. Sorry to start ANOTHER one of these threads but i figure you guys know what your talking about and could help me out with my swing. This is a shot using a 5 iron, it went about 175metres (190 Yards) and dead straight, which is usually how i hit it. This may seem not too bad however i know my swing is not very good, and am looking to improve. I have been told i am very stiff throughout my swing, and i use ALOT of forearm, i basically snap down onto the ball. Sorry for the angle taken its all i have on my computer, ill get a side on when im on the course next. So if you could please have a look and give me some tips. Thankyou Normal Speed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSue0TfjkLQ Half Speed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uADSGppsUg8
  10. Reading this thread had given me renewed confidence in my swing. I never realised you were supposed to hit down on the ball, i just did it because i could hit it ALOT better. With the irons, 7 upwards, i take a fairly large divot especially with wedges, but i only take a small one with my 3-6 irons. Are you supposed to hit down on the ball with a driver??
  11. G'day guys, As you'll see in the 'introduce yourself' section im new, and new to golf also. So im looking at purchasing a new putter Been looking at the odyssey white hot XG probably #5. What do the numbers mean first of all? And also do you think this is a good putter? I dont know how to judge if a putter is good or not. I like a soft feel also, which is why i think this putter would be good for me, and ive heard quite a lot of good stuff about them. I can get it for AUD$140 instead of about $200 retail, so i thought it was a good deal. Also, i am 6'1 so i was wondering what size you thought would be best? or is it just personal preference? What do you think? Thankyou.
  12. I use Hogan Apex Edge forged irons. First PROPER set of clubs and i love them. So easy to hit, have cut my game down by about 15 shots since i got them (6 months ago). Probably because im playing a lot more, but they are fantastic clubs.
  13. Burnley Golf Course, in the Inner Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne Aus. That is seriously the worst corse ever, no par 5's. I think it has 5 par 3's. No wonder why it only costs $10 to play. I was there the other day when someone hit their ball over the vertically challenged fences straight into a new BMW. Supposedly it happens a few times a week. Surely they would fix the fences.
  14. 7-iron for sure Hit it around 160m and its always a clean shot. Cant go past.
