Great topic! My daughter just turned two and I've actually taken her to the putting green with me a couple of times. She has her own little USKG putter and she obviously can't putt it using the normal stance and grip or whatever, but she defintely grasped the concept right away. She understands the ball goes in the hole and she likes to pull the flag out once they're in there and the balls roll all over the place and she thinks it's great. I'll also set a couple balls a couple inches from the hole and she kind of nudges them in and gets really excited, so it's fun. I just kind of want to familiarize her with the game and start grasping basic concepts and maybe some extremely basic fundamentals. And it's a great opportunity for me to spend some time with her outdoors and work on my putting stroke a little bit, so we're definitely going to make it a regular outing.

While it's amusing to me that you think I'm "that guy", I'm actually far from it and do not "put everyone else down calling everyone a liar"......just Carpe Diem in this instance as it relates to the stretching of the truth; not really putting him down. I'm fairly new to this forum, but if you look at some of my other posts, you'll find them to be quite hospitable and "helpful" actually. But when I see somebody boasting about 165 yard PWs that he regularly hits accurately, and wants sage advice based on that claim, I'm gonna call him on it. And fortunately for me, I've got better things to do with my time than to fly down to South Carolina and watch you not hit the green from 165 but thanks for the offer. But, I'm a sporting guy and up for a good challenge, so I see two ways to squelch our little e-squabble here: Option 1) Post a poll simply asking "What club do you hit from 165 yards under normal conditions (even lie, not uphill/downhill green, light to no wind, relatively close to sea level, etc.)? I can almost guarantee you that nobody will answer PW in all honesty. Well, they may now because they think I'm an a-hole and will just for spite, but in an unbiased, honest poll I very seriously doubt anybody would answer PW. Option 2) I, like Carpe Diem, am also shopping for wedges (probably a 56 and a 60). I am willing to bet a new 56 wedge of his choice if he "wins" and one of my choice if I "win" that Carpe Diem cannot drop a ball, or 5 balls for that matter, at a SkyCaddie or similar GPS device measured 165 yards and hit a reasonably sized green with a PW (no skulled worm burners either; he implied that he hits it with plenty of air under it and they land softly on the green). If Carpe Diem can produce unedited, undoctored video evidence or get a couple of guys to witness and vouch for the outcome of the event and stick the green with one of those 5 balls, I will buy him his new wedge. He doesn't hit the green, he's buying mine. Simple as that. BTW, are you sure you aren’t drunk or stoned when you’re hitting these mammoth 160 yard PWs?!?!?! Free Ballin – “I play a Thursday afternoon blitz every week with a good buddy of mine who smokes grass. I have smoked with him on occasion but it didn't have any affect on my game. I was already playing bad enough to start drinking heavily so it didn't matter.” You can think what you want about me but I’m not the guy bragging about smoking dope or getting drunk on the course. And I find it very curious that Carpe Diem hits the same club from either 100 or 165 yards out. Carpe Diem – “congrats, as I recorded my first eagle a week ago. 100 yards out, 2nd shot, PW.” I sure wish I had the miracle club in my bag that has a 65 yard disparity! Congrats on the Eagle, btw. You guys may want to watch what you post on the Internet….it could come back to haunt ya’!!! And apologies to other forum members that are reading this and think I’m a big jerk, but these young guys that come on to these forums bragging and boasting about stuff that any reasonable person would have to question can really piss me off sometimes. I’ve said my peace now though and will get back to the regularly scheduled programming.

Whatever dude...look at some of the other posts on here and most people generally agree that people that say 265 really mean 230 to 225 and your 165 probably means 130-125, which nobody would question. And a Tiger comparison in this case makes perfect sense because it's NOT IN HIS FAVOR!! Of course comparisons to Tiger Woods saying you're not as good as him make no sense becuase nobody here is, but in this case you were claiming you regularly hit it 30-40 yards further than him with your PW, which is utterly ridiculous. But if you want to continue the charade, that's your perogative. You asked for advice....here's some advice: Nobody like's a liar. Just get a 56 degree wedge with 10-12 bounce as others said and enjoy your beer.

Well, congratulations to the two of you. As 19 and 20 handicappers, you both hit your PWs quite a substantial bit further than Tiger Woods "on a normal day": TIGER'S CLUBS: Driver: 285 yards (of carry) 3 Wd: 265 yards (of carry) 2 Iron: 245 yards 3 Iron: 230 yards 4 Iron: 220 yards 5 Iron: 208 yards 6 Iron: 190 yards 7 Iron: 172 yards 8 Iron: 158 yards 9 Iron: 142 yards Pitching Wedge: 128 yards Sand Wedge: 106 yards Lob Wedge (60°): 92 yards Granted, we've seen Tiger in tournaments muscle up and hit 150-160 yard PWs, but the above numbers were provided by Tiger to the Golf Channel as general guides for what he hits under normal conditions. And according to the two of you, you hit it a good 30 yards further than the best player in the world. Anyway, not saying it's not true because everybody's different, but one could see why I thought it's a bit of a "fishtale".

You're a 19 handicap and you hit your PW 165 yards?!?!?! What do you hit your driver......390???? Some factual information and not "fish tales" might lead to better recommendations.

I'm using the TaylorMade R7 460cc and lovin' it. I had the R580 before that and I'm still hitting fairways for the most part with the R7 but have a little more pop.

Flared lead foot & ball position with irons
SFore replied to $2 Nassau's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
When I first started playing golf, I had a pretty nasty reverse pivot and I found that by flaring my left foot, it helped me kind of "push off" and get the weight going towards the back foot. It actually hepled and as I developed a more natural golf swing, the flared foot just kind felt right and stuck. I don't flare it as bad these days and I never really felt it was affecting my ball position though. Actually, now that I think about it, I have always preferred the ball a little forward with my irons, even my mid-irons and maybe it's because of the flared foot but never really thought about it. I definitely play my short irons and wedges in the back of my stance though, but I'm not flaring my foot then since my stance is often open for those shorter approach shots. Interesting subject. -
Yeah, they're not bad. But there again, I believe you're choosing between distance and spin/feel (red or blue I think), so it's worth the $6-8 upgrade to the HX Hots for a more mid-level, multi-purpose, 3piece ball. The Big Bertha's are 2-piece balls.

If you get the Oki card, you'll definitely enjoy Newcastle and Indian Summer. I've played both and they are exceptional. I've played Echo Falls as well and it's pretty nice. Not really walkable and it's got some goofy holes with power lines running across the fairways that have been known to ruin a shot or two, but it's not a bad course overall. As for other reasonably priced public courses: West Seattle was mentioned and is probably the best of the 3 muni courses (Jackson Park and Jefferson Park being the other 2) Maplewood and Elk Run are decent down in the Maple Valley area with Druids Glen and Washington National being the "premium" courses in that region; I prefer Druids Glen, but that's just personal preference. Willows Run in Bellevue has two 18 hole courses and is highly played and some might say highly overrated but probably worth a spin. Heading North, you've got Harbour Point, Kayak Point, and Battle Creek. Kayak Point is a classic Northest track basically cut out of a forest and is a fun challenge. It's best played late in the summer since it doesn't drain well, but is worth a drive North to play (near Tulalip casino so you can get a little gambling in after your round as well) I'm sure that's just scratching the surface, but there are definitely some great options within an hours drive from Seattle or even some nice courses over on the Penninsula (the courses at Gold Mountain and McCormick Woods come to mind) so just start trying 'em out. Now's the time to do it because you've got about 3 months left of decent weather before it's time to pull out the rain gear!!!

You are correct. A little chapstick on the face is definitely illegal, but reduces the spin on the ball and thus would tend to reduce slices and hooks and theoretically increase distance since you're hitting it straighter. I've seen a buddy do it, but never actually tried it myself.
-
I applaud you for keeping your cool. I'm a peaceful, fun-loving guy but I would have lost my f'ing mind if somebody tried to go thru my bag!!!! That's just something you don't do no matter who you are.

Yes, Callaway does own Top Flite (and I believe the Hogan brand as well), but a Rock Flite is still a Rock Flite.

The Callaway HX Hot is a good mid-range ball that is not too overly expensive. You can usually find them at Target or other mass merchants for $20-$25/dozen, which is comparable to the Titlest NXTs or some of the Nike balls. I think they're technically a 'Distance' ball, but has more spin and feel than say the Nike Juice. I've also heard good things about the Bridgestone e5 and e6, but then you're kind of choosing between a distance ball (e5) and a "trajectory control" ball (e6). I received a sleeve of the e6s at a recent tournament and am curious to test them agains the HX Hots that I usually play.

A USC fan?!?!?!? Thanks alot......I got the 'Tribute to Troy' song stuck in my head as soon as I read that....."Baaaah..bah,bah,bah,bah...bah bah". So annoying! :o) I'm down for some PNW golf.

I'm not a fan of Washington National, but then again I'm a WSU Cougar grad. All that purple and gold on the carts and the pin flags really messed up my game. LOL! A couple buddies are playing Chambers Bay that opening weekend. They're trying to get me to go, but just can't justify the $200 with a caddy. It looks incredible, so I'm hoping to play it someday. I've got friends that live in Pierce County and it looks like it's $85 during the week with a Pierce County resident, so I need to try and hook that up one of these days. I played Suncadia for the first time on Saturday. Beautiful course!!! We got twilight rate teeing off at 3:00 and it was $60 with a cart and they gave you a large bag of range balls. Best $60 golfing experience I've had!! Well worth it.
