  1. I noticed that to, if I'm not starting from bottom up with the ball that forward I basically spin out and shank it left. I know I won't be compressing the ball as much as I should, but maybe I can finally get this swing ingrained in me and then start moving the ball back so I can start striking it a little more solid.
  2. I read a tip from someone on here about casting/lag/early releasing and they said to put the ball at your front foot for all of your clubs and this will show you how it feels to not release early. I've been doing that and making great contact and obviously the drawback is the ball goes a mile in the air. Do you think it is a bad idea if I just play rounds like this and every time I'm at the driving range to play like this just to build my muscle memory? Are there any other drawbacks I should consider?
  3. Anyone know the best place to get fitted in Northern Virginia (Fairfax or Loudoun County). Someplace that does more than a golf galaxy that will actually measure your swing, etc. Thanks in advance!
  4. Can you go into a little more detail on the bolded part, so when you mean transition do you mean where the left shoulder was at the end of your backswing (where it's been completely turned)? Thanks in advance.
  5. My two biggest things are dropping my arms into the slot on the downswing and also not casting. I've been trying every lag drill I can, I saw on some other posts that people had luck with creating a 'lag stick'. Has anyone done this and have any tips on how to create it? Also any tips on dropping my arms into the slot, I'm trying to both jam my right elbow into my side and also feel my left arm go down my chest but when I swing I just conveniently forget all that. Also someone wrote one time about lag that if you put the ball at your front foot for every club, it forces you to not cast early and when I tried that at the driving range a few times I am actually hitting the ball solid (it goes a mile in the air but the same distance and even farther than I would hit with the ball in its regular spot). Am I just getting lucky or is there some reasoning to this? Thanks in advance!
  6. Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I was wanting to know this answer as well as well as the best type of material to make it with. Thanks in advance!
  7. Would you be able to explain this a little more, this sounds interesting. Thanks in advance.
  8. For the feeling of lag, are you supposed to be gripping the club loose enough that you can kind of feel your club whipping through the swing. For instance when I am at the top of my backswing I should still feel the club moving backwards even when I've started my move down? I guess what I'm saying is if you were to whip a towel or a leash, after you have started going forward you can still see the towel moving the opposite direction?
  9. Does anyone know if you can buy the same grips Taylor Made uses on their RBZ woods. I really like the way they feel and wanted to put the same grips on my irons (I bought last year's Titleist AP1's and the grips feel like they are already wearing down). Does anyone see any disadvantage of getting similar grips that are on the TM RBZ on my irons. I know the best answer is to get to a golf store and check out all the grips from goflpride, etc, but didn't know if someone knew offhand already. Thanks in advance!
  10. Does anyone know what size rubber band it uses, I lost mine and can't find another one to replace it?
  11. Thanks for the tips, hopefully I can find a heated range here in No. VA to practice over the winter. Thanks again!
  12. Hi All, Here is my swing from the front/facing me (don't know the technical term for it). One of the things I noticed even when I am using the swingyde is I have no lag and my club pulls away from it almost immediately at the top so when I am making contact the clubhead is in front of my hands. I have read and tried everything from dropping my arms, dropping my elbow to my hip, pump drill, etc. I seriously now think it is just a mental thing, I can't keep the lag and at the same time can't get on the inside plane. Hopefully someone else has gone through what I did and might have the magic drill to help me out. Thanks in advance!
  13. I just stumbled upon this thread so I'm a little late. My golf pro basically told me to do the same thing, he said my takeaway is perfect, but at the top he wants me to drop my arms and at the same time do my hip bump/move it to the left (I'm a righty) and then swing through. I'm kind of like the original poster where I can do this perfectly in my basement or when I am doing a half swing on the range, but once I do a full swing I can't do it. I feel the same way, like it's a mental block. From what you said below, this makes sense to, do you have any videos or any kind of graphics showing this. I kind of get what you are saying, but can't grasp it visually. Thanks in advance! Quote: Originally Posted by iacas Never in towards your body, no. You get a loop if you do too much of the "up" and/or not enough of the "left" and then try to correct it on the downswing. Lots of people do it. I just said I don't advise it... I don't see the tradeoff as being a valid one for 99% of golfers.
  14. I ended up having to do this, I went in thinking about to many things and then just decided to focus on keeping my right elbow in. That helped a ton and then I would try to move on and try to start with my hips and then I would forget about my elbow! So instead I just figured I would concentrate on my right elbow, keeping it in and trying to relax my arms. It helped my swing a lot so I just need to get that down pat and then focus on my weight shift. Thanks for the help and keep them coming!
  15. Thanks for the tips, I'm going to try them all of them on the range. I think the initial tip about my right elbow staying close is something that I always forget to practice as well.
  16. Thanks for your response. The sad part is, I know all this and can especially feel a correct swing when I do the drill of swinging with my feet together. I actually almost hit the ball as far as I do with my feet together with my 7 iron as I do in my normal stance. I just can't for some reason get over the mental block of starting with my lower body first.
  17. Hello, I have a huge problem where when the club reaches the top of my backswing I start to dip forward during my transition down and this causes me to automatically swing from outside in (over the top). Does anyone have any good tips to prevent this? I attached a video of my swing (sorry for it being dark, overcast morning) that shows how I start to dip forward (towards the ground) at the top of my backswing. Thanks in advance! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qB_t2Gd4obg A few things I have tried that have helped a bit, one tip was to curl my toes before i swing to make sure I'm not leaning to forward. I used to lean in during my backswing but I was able to fix that, but now I just can't stop myself from leaning forward before I start my transition down.
