  1. Definitely don't hold it; your muscles will be more tense if you do. One of the best tips I got was to try to keep my mouth slightly open during the swing so as not to hold my breath and tense up.
  2. Thanks, guys. I think I'm going to go with the fitter's suggestions for now. Paying Ping $18 to get the whole set adjusted is a bargain, so I can always do that if it absolutely doesn't work.
  3. I just got fitted for a set of PING G10 irons. I'm 6'3" and wrist-to floor is 39". According to the PING color chart , I'd be maroon dot, +1/2" shaft length, but the fitter suggested +1 1/2" shaft, silver dot. That seems to be very different from the color chart. I'm not sure what to go with now. I'm inclined to trust the fitter's suggestion over the chart since he had me hit a bunch of balls off a contact board and actually saw my swing. Has anyone had a similar experience? What do you guys think in general? Do the fitter's suggestions make sense or are they too far outside the color chart?
  4. I immediately thought of that place when I read the original post. I go there all the time!
  5. Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, I was outbid...
  6. I'm eyeing a set of g10's on ebay. They're the perfect length and lie for me, I'm just a little concerned about the condition: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item;=330571896842&fromMakeTrack;=true&ssPageName;=VIP:watchlink:top:en#ht_2521wt_745 I don't care about the look too much as long as it doesn't impact playability, but it's hard for me to tell because I'm new to the game. Can someone take a look and let me know what they think? Auction ends soon and price is $150. Thanks!
  7. Thanks guys, lots of good advice here. I think I'll see if the pro shop will adjust my cheap clubs so I can learn on the correct length for the next year or so. Once I have a consistent swing and know what to look for, I'll invest in a nice set of new or used irons.
  8. Hi Shaggy, That sounds like a great idea, thanks. I heard that some stores refuse to work on cheaper equipment, but it doesn't hurt to ask...
  9. I don't know why you're asking me that. I think I've made it pretty clear that I'm an absolute beginner, so I have to trust his opinion. Looking at online sizing charts though, they all say that I need at least .5 to .75.
  10. Thanks guys, that does help. I'm totally with you on the "you get what you pay for" - front. I guess the core of my question is whether it's worth it to spend the 100 bucks so I can learn on a set that is the right length? I wouldn't have a problem spending another 500 or so one or two years from now. I'm just a little hesitant to spend that much now. I haven't even developed a consistent swing yet and wouldn't know what to look for when getting a set of expensive irons. As a beginner, would I even notice the difference between a Ping set and its clone from Pinemeadow or Gigagolf?
  11. I just finished an introductory, 6 week golf class. I love playing the game and practicing at the range. To start out, I bought a complete, $250 Maxfli set right before my first class (that was probably my first mistake, I know). My coach told me that the clubs are too short for me. I looked up shaft lenghts and it looks like I need a shaft that's half an inch longer. My question is: Does it make sense to upgrade the iron set I currently have to the Command Q Titanium irons from Pinemeadow? I could get those with the extra length for no extra charge and currently they're on sale for $139, which is very tempting. My main concern is that I'm learning the game with clubs that are too short. Will I pick up bad habits? Is it worth it to get the Pinemeadow irons to replace the super-cheap ones in the set? Is it even an upgrade? Or should I just keep learning with the current clubs and wait a year or two until I get a really nice set of brand-name clubs?
