  1. This actually happened to me tonight at the range... I take my ipod to the range with me to listen to to help me maintain focus as I make my way through my pre-planned practice session. I'm hitting warming up with some half swings and finding my rhythm when I notice this guy with the most hideous fedora hat I've ever seen standing behind me and actually talking at me. Mind you, I have my ipod on. I politely pull an earbud out of my ear and listen to what he is saying. He then proceeds to light a cigarette and attempt to strike up a conversation with me....about my swing. I oblige him for a few moments, until he starts telling me he shot a 60 last weekend at a championship course nearby. At this point I politely let him know that I have a limited amount of time and have much left to do in my session, and bid him adieu. As I'm re-focusing, he naturally selects the stall next to me and pulls out his top of the line driver. The sequence of shots is as follows: First swing: Hits the ball about twenty yards off the deck with a thirty yard slice and it travels roughly 180 yards. His response? "I came up off it in a bad way." Second swing: This one flies straight...up in the air...possibly even higher than I could pop up my lob wedge. Net distance-130 yards Third swing: Pull hooks it left into the side netting and exclaims "Son of a bitch....I can't hit this new driver to save my life" Long story short...it's annoying when people lie about their game...and lie to themselves...after breaking my concentration to give me, a complete stranger, advice about my swing.
  2. I may be wrong...but I'm fairly certain that swing speed won't net you 370...downhill...with the wind at your back...but I may be wrong...
  3. Man I was just kidding around...
  4. Couldn't even find that earlier...thanks for the link
  5. Thanks for the fantastic contribution. lol
  6. Huh...guess you learn something new everyday.
  7. This....
  8. I just went to the website and saw all the different products they make, but can't seem to find any retail prices. Anyways, they were pretty cool looking clubs, as they almost looked like blades at address. This guy also had a club with the number 10 on, which I had never seen before either. He said it was 54 degrees and compared it to a gap wedge.
  9. Met a guy at the driving range this past weekend and he was hitting Yonnex tour pro irons. I, personally, have never heard of them before. He was nice enough to let me swing them a few times, and they seem like really nice clubs (perhaps not as nice as the $2000 retail price he suggested, but still.) So, has anyone heard of this brand before, and if so, what do you know about them? I plan on doing a bit of research myself online, but wanted some outside opinions as well. Thanks!
  10. In high school, my coach finally got through to me on how to hit this shot my senior year. It helped tremendously being able to spin an 8 or nine, if only even a little, in some scenarios. I'm not talking some ridiculous amount by any stretch, however having said that, in high school I could spin both those clubs for a particular shot, under the right circumstances and score well. I am just trying to recall how I hit the ball then, vs. what I am doing now.
  11. I suppose, being married, I can concede that pleasing the wife, even if only by playing one of these courses, it is a good idea....lol...although my wife is equally as competitive as I am.
  12. Everything you are describing is intended for children use, not for the use of grown adults who have no intention of actually attempting to improve. When I go to the gym , I do not you use the junior size basketball's or play on 8 foot goals. I don't play baseball with my buddies on a little league diamond or use a tee ball plate. If making the game easier for children is the intended desire, then perhaps Jack should have been a bit more clear about it in his article. Otherwise, to me, it seems like another way to grow the golf industry, not for the good of the game, but for the pockets of the already wealthy...by "making the game easier". Again, this is all just my very opinionated stance on the matter.
  13. Sounds like fun to me actually...but I'm a bit ...and for those out there that wish the game to a bit easier, perhaps they could purchase a set of plastic clubs, like my 5 year old started with at three and play inside their house.
  14. Perhaps we should hang the basketball rims at the gym at 8.5 feet instead of ten for those of us that wish we were MJ? Or, maybe we can shorten the length of a baseball field back down to little league size for the men's recreational leagues so everyone can have more fun. I think that is the problem in the world today...people want the results without the time invested....again, just my opinion.
  15. I loathe sitting through commercials...so I tend to agree with ut on this one.
  16. I'll definitely give them a shot for a round. Bridgestone really branches out in a variety of ways....lol
  17. It's just a shot I am trying to learn...not play on a consistent basis. I have found myself in scenarios before where bringing the ball back was an appropriate shot to hit. I'm not adjusting my swing to spin the ball back 10 feet every time, it's just something I want to LEARN how to do more consistently. I'm not approaching EVERY green from the fairway thinking, "man it would be cool if I could spin this ball all the way back off the green," but in some cases, a shot with a tremendous amount of spin is useful imho. Which is why I DO in fact care more about my actual score than making a shot look cool, or like something you see the pros do. I want to have a variety of shots in my arsenal for whatever is needed for that particular hole. What is so wrong with that...I'll wait...
  18. I think this is my biggest problem with enlarging the size of the cup. If you don't like missing three footers, do what any logical individual trying to improve would do...PRACTICE MORE!!! Or is that too much of a concept to grasp?
  19. They are showing a replay of Woz's match last night due to weather delays...oh well, guess there are worse ways to spend the morning than watching a cute 20 year old in a short skirt play with balls...lol
  20. This^^^^ We are in the same boat here man. Golf, to me, is a personal challenge that pits you against the design of the course and nature. I have no problem scoring poorly on a particular course, in fact, it motivates me to play the course better next time. This is not to say that by enlarging the holes, one can't feel equally as challenged or satisfied, I just personally find the game perfect the way it is.
  21. While overall I agree with your statement iacas, I feel municipal courses offer perfect challenges for beginners of golf. I'm all for experimentation, as long as it doesn't branch out and turn out to be all the wholes are 8 inches wide. I guess it's all just one's own preference....it was just my two cents on the matter.
  22. I suppose whether or not you consider a four ball scramble real golf determines your feelings on making the whole size double. I, personally, don't consider a 4 ball scramble golf, but rather a derivative game.
  23. At least according to a poll I just saw on BSPN. I'm not sure whether or not this is new or old news, but either way, what a freaking joke imho. How in the hell could Jack possibly want that? I'm not saying golf would be substantially easier for the weekend woodsman if the size of the hole was doubled, but that 77 I shot last week would have very easily been a 71-72 with a hole double in size. I'd prefer to leave the hole EXACTLY the way it is...just my opinion. What say you?
