  1. Just look at the pro's within 100 yards they are able to make up and down in alot of cases, up to 75 %. If we look at single hdc players like myselve that is 30 - 40 %. If you have a bad driving day or iron day, shortgame can always keep the score together. as mentioned above hitting only 9 GIR and still make level par is amazing. and in your mind it helps also, if you can trust on a good shortgame, you can hit your irons more freely, myself i'm good at bunker play, having to an iron into a green with alot of bunkers, does not scare me, my mind tells me if i hit a bunker i am still able to save par. that takes of the presure of your iron shot. if i practise for lets say 1 hour it's 15 min. long game, 30 chipping and pitching, 15 putting, to give you an idea. take care
  2. alot of people are finding it difficult to get long irons up in the air. specialy the ones who are not that long of the tee and use alot of woods. if i read your post you are more an iron player. So basicly your doing ok, to hit them the same as your short irons, only your ball position should be little further to your left foot. I only have 1 hybrid in my bag and that is a 2 iron to close a gap between my 3wood and 3 iron. if you should try hybrid clubs make sure you have a pro version or as taylormade calls them Tour preferred. on these clubs is minimal offset. If you have an iphone you can download myswing. in there you can see tiger hit all the irons, you can even put your own swing next to his. In there you can see how tiger hits the long irons and there is hardly any change in his swing. to give you an idea on my avg distances: DR. 290 yrd 3wd. 255 2 hybr. 235 3 iron 215 4 iron 200 5 iron 190 6 iron 180 7 iron 165 8 iron 150 9 iron 140 P wedge 130 54 wedge 110 58 wedge 95 take care
  3. Phil is a feel player round the greens, and he is damn good at it, it takes alot of practise to use your wrists in chiping action, amateur players to chip like Phil are not there so much, even tour players. As for tiger he is a mind player, i think he can actualy see the ball go in his mind before hitting the ball. ( his masters chipinn on 16 th. was a good way to see ) i prefer to not use the wrists, only when i need to by hitting over bunkers or water. i think the best to do is to hit the bumb and run, it's mutch more consistant in result, even on off center hits. i even use my rescue club for chipping, of the face this is a little harder than the putter so you get trough the fringe more easy. so for me no wrist action on chipping. good luck
  4. First of all, i think it's good to look at your shaft before anything els, its the shaft that makes the club work. reading your info, i think you will benefit an X stiff shaft, but on the other hand, if the shaft is to firm you will lose the balls even more to the right. you should be looking at a high or mid kickpoint on your shaft. and a heavier shaft might do the trick also. For what i read you are not get fit properly, your spin rate is to high, other shafts should get that lower. As for me, i used to have a verry high ball flight myself, ( had a cobra S91 F 10.5 deg. with pro launch blue stiff shaft) I went to a new club because my loft was to high, i bought this club during a period of not playing as often, my swingspeed at that moment was about 90 m/ph so at that time it worked, now with me playing 2-3 times a week me tempo went up to little over 100 m/ph so i did need to change shaft also I now have the Taylormade R11 driver with aldila rip stiff shaft, what is nice about this club is that you can ajust the setting. Like face angle and loft. This could benefit you also, maybe you could go to the local golfshop and have a go with it. maybe this club can get you out of your fade also. This club comes in a 9 degree loft, but you can lower that 1,5 degree. as for me i was hitting hard draws and i changed the face angle to an open setting i now hit soft draw with carry about 250 and i get 20 yrd roll, my ballflight looks so much better now. So in my opinion shaft is the key but a new clubface could benefit more. Good luck
  5. For starters i would go for a forgiving clubface, what you should consider is the shaft. If you get your first lessons you should look at swingspeed and ask your pro what shaft will suite you. before you even go and buy a set, if the shaft is good, you will not have to change your golfclubs in a while, so you don't waste any money. As for my self i started with a callaway big bertha iron set with steel shaft, it worked fine for me, i have played them for the first 4 years it got me to hdc 10.4. Doing that with only irons in my bag, so no woods. After those 4 years my golfswing was getting consistant and i went to a custom made club. But the R9 irons are good irons to start with. Good luck with your game.
