Two Questions about flipping
Fowlerfan19 replied to Fowlerfan19's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yeah weight transfer is one of the hardest things for me. That video is from like two weeks ago and I think I've improved on some things since then but weight transfer for me is so hard. I can't for the life of me get my weight shifted to the front. -
Two Questions about flipping
Fowlerfan19 replied to Fowlerfan19's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'm pretty new to golf...so if your hands are too close to your body at address could that cause an outside to inside swing path? I feel like this is a big problem for me, more so on my driver than my irons. That's why I extended my hands out a little bit more and was making very good contact. My left hand is lined up with my chin. Is that too far of extension? -
Two Questions about flipping
Fowlerfan19 replied to Fowlerfan19's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Played 18 today and on the front 9 I was struggling a lot. So for the back 9 I decided to extend my hands a bit at address and started hitting the ball great. Wasn't flipping as much as usual but I still had some shots that sliced with the driver. Irons were dead straight and pretty long. I've been struggling with my long irons and I was able to get the ball in the air today. Just curious, would it be better for me to have my hands very close to my body or extended out? I usually have my hands pretty close...back 9 extended them out to a little bit in front of my chin. -
Two Questions about flipping

First off, thanks everyone for all the help. I appreciate it. Secondly, what should the elbows be doing after impact? A poster above said both of my elbows are pulled into the body. What should they be doing? -
Two Questions about flipping
Fowlerfan19 replied to Fowlerfan19's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yeah I feel like I top my long irons mostly because I'm trying to hit the ball up instead of striking it in the correct spot. I have a video on here, it's not that good but I'll reupload. A guy froze it and said my weight isn't getting to my front side and I'm flipping. I've fixed my posture and alignment a lot since that last video but the downswing/release looks terrible IMO. -
Two Questions about flipping

I feel like when I flip my wrists at impact, I don't get consistent results. For example, I'll top a ball, I'll hit a huge divot before the ball ,etc. Some slice, some hook...Does that have anything to do with flipping? -
1) What does flipping the wrists at impact cause? 2) After impact position (left wrist flat, right wrist bent) , what do the wrists do?
-
Firstly, it looks like you are a bit too hunched over shoulders wise. Your shoulders seem pretty far forward but that may be because you have a decent amount of knee bend at address. Two things, you have a small hesitation at the top of your back swing right before your downswing and at the top of your back swing your left elbow is bending severely. I think you can extend a touch more at the top of your back swing for a bit more power. Also, try and keep that left elbow a bit straighter. Not mandatory but it should help you out.

Two things...would this cause me to slice the ball? I feel like I do this off the tee because anytime I take a practice swing at the tee I'm not going straight at it. It comes from outside to inside. Could this also be because my arms aren't extended all the way at address? Perhaps my hands are too close to my body at address? Thanks.

Hey man thanks for the quick reply! Any idea on some drills or how I can fix these problems? I noticed how bad my shoulder/hip turn was so I've been working on that.

I never knew I looked this bad swinging a golf club...kind of depressing. Can somebody here list the numerous things I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

So I'm pretty much trying to revamp my swing a bit. My posture and alignment is a lot better and I was told I wasn't using my shoulders enough and was using too much arms. I've been trying to keep my left elbow straight and I can do this with relative ease up until the top of the back swing. It's impossible for me to have the club parallel to my target at the top of the backswing without bending my elbow. It's really frustrating because I feel like I can't make a full swing like this. Went to the course today and I was coming in at too steep a angle and creating big divots before the ball. Is there any drills that can help your left elbow stay straight and does anyone know what causes this? I feel like no matter how much I turn my shoulders it would be physically impossible to keep my left elbow straight at the top.

I'm a beginner golfer with a high handicap and I just came off my best round ever. Anything I hit with my irons was going long and dead straight. Then today was just terrible. I kept picking up huge divots before the ball, so I'd get them in the air but they'd go nowhere and I just couldn't make clean contact. It started to play with my psyche and I just had no confidence at all. What causes a huge divot before making contact with the ball?

I'm going to upload a video the next time I golf...which will probably be Thursday. It's always a regular slice. Ill hit it off the tee and I'll think it's ok and then it will slice 20-30 right right putting me in no mans land.
-
Perhaps you could upload videos showing the difference? I think I may bring mine too inside.

When you're turning your shoulders to get the club into your back swing try and keep your head steady. Just because your shoulders are turning doesn't mean your head has to.

Hey guys, I've received some great feedback on this forum so far as I was struggling with hitting long irons. Played a round today and I pretty much have my 6-A going far and pretty straight. Going to work on my 3/4 iron soon. My newest problem and the one I can't seem to get is slicing my driver. I'm pretty much bogeying each hole as I play on a pretty easy course because I'm slicing shots out of the fairway and its killing my distance. Anybody have any tips on driver slicing? Im pretty sure my grip is good because I don't slice my irons at all anymore. It's just my driver. Any help would be awesome!
-
Just curious what did he change in your takeaway?
-
Well...I went out today and played and I used my 6 iron a ton and was hitting the dead straight around 160-170, which was totally awesome. I topped a few of my shots early with my 5 iron, so I decided to not use the club at all. 6 iron down, 4 and 5 irons to go. The only problem I had today was that I kept slicing my driver. Is it possible to be able to hit your irons dead straight, but slice your driver?
-
I struggled badly on the front 9 and shot a 52. Back 9 I shot a 42. Improved 10 strokes in 9 holes lol. Parred 2 holes on the back 9, had a couple of par attempts rim out, etc. Have to get some more distance on my driver.
-
It's the same problem for me. I swing extra hard because I want the ball to go 200 yards, and in my head now...I don't even want to use any of them because I figured I'll top it and it will go 20 yards. Pretty frustrating.
-
Hey man, thanks for the advice...could this happen because I was using too much arms and not enough shoulder rotation? I started using my shoulders a lot more today and saw some progress, still not perfect though. What would an over the top swing cause btw?
-
I mean honestly, I'll admit that it is in my head. I played a round today and tried using these clubs on the front 9. The back 9 I limited myself to a 7-A and I shot a lot better but it limits what I can do. For example If I'm 200 out that 4 iron would come in handy if I could make clean contact. I continually top the shop and it's so frustrating. Instead Ill use my 7 iron and max out around 140/150. Back to the grind tomorrow.
-
This is pretty much the part of my game that is holding me back. I don't have any hybrids and I want to learn how to use these clubs. Off the tee I'm totally fine, the problem is with the 4,5,and 6 iron since the loft is lesser I'm having a very big problem with topping the ball. I can't make clean contact at all and I have no idea why. Any ideas?

Need some help with driver.
Fowlerfan19 replied to Fowlerfan19's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Without seeing your swing it sounds like you should use more shoulder rotation and less "arms". But again, that is just a wild guess. Post a video and you will get better responses. Yeah actually my friend was talking to me about that today and I also have a few questions about this. First off, how should the hips be during the shoulder turn motion. For example do I keep my hips locked, do I turn them, slide them, etc? Also, my left arm should be pretty straight with the shoulder rotation right? Thanks for the advice guys!
