Iron's comparable to MP 57
Chris Shades replied to Chris Shades's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
That's exactly the set I was thinking of too. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm gonna try and hit some today. -
Hey all, I just picked up a used set of Mp 57's last month and I've played a few rounds with pretty good success. The long irons are super forgiving and easy to control, It's never been this much fun hitting long iron's. My only problem with the set is the shorter irons are way to chunky looking for my eye. I'm wondering if there is a set out there with nice hitting long irons and more bladey thinner topline short irons. Maybe a combo set of some sort? Doesn't have to be Mizuno, let me know your suggestions.

No, I really dislike that stock fubuki shaft. -
2012 PGA Championship at Kiawah Island Ocean Course Thread
Chris Shades replied to iacas's topic in Tour Talk
" I heard that all the bunkers are played as wasted areas this week. But looking at, for example, picture k_25 there are waste looking areas, but in the middle of the fairway there is a pot bunker. I noticed in other pictures clearly defined greenside bunkers as well. Are they all really being played as waste areas?" The guys on golf channel won't stop talking saying "there are no bunkers on this course, all area's with sand are called sandy area's and will be played from as a waste area". Dustin Johnson must feel like crap... -

Keegan seem's to be really optimistic about the championship even with the weather conditions. As much as I would hate to admit it, Rory and Gmac might be the ones to watch out for on this course. -
Nike VR_S Driver vs. Taylormade Burner 2.0 Driver
Chris Shades replied to Davis33's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The Nike is an okay club with a different shaft that isn't the stock fake Fubuki but already cost's $300 at a retailer. You can probably get the Burner 2.0 for $150 new somewhere and the stock shaft on that isn't too bad, a hair whippy for my liking but I could live with it and probably hit it a ton. -
In the market for Blades - any suggestions?

If I didn't have my Nike blades I'd be hitting Mp69's. nuff said... -
Weirdest thing ever happened this afternoon. I am at the driving range with my grand dad working on hitting my driver straight for a tournament I have coming up on Tuesday. I just sold my original 10.5 R11 TP (aldila rip green eyes stiff) a few weeks ago to buy a Nike VRS with the same shaft as my old R11 (BIG MISTAKE). So I can't seem to get this new driver to go straight consistenly as my old R11, most shots are slices or hooks. So after spraying about a 100 golf balls all over the place I say hey grand dad lemme see whats up with that Burner ya got there? I pick up his 08 Burner with Taylormade RE*AX "M" flex shaft and I'm killin it straight down the middle every time! WTH? It feels so good just like my old R11! As for distance, the range ball were flying about 220-230 yards which at this point I'm happy with after having such bad luck with the New Nike club. Now, my question is what would happen if I hit this same club with a stiffer shaft? More distance? Lower Trajectory? Both? I'm so happy to finally have the ball in the fairway again but my pride is hurting with a senior flex driver in my bag!!!!! Little info about me I'm 24 years old 6'5 300 pounds I do allot of heavy lifting 10 index SS 100-105 So basically I'm not exactly a senior flex candidate, right?

$30 for brand new tour balls.

The 20xi is a terrible ball IMHO. There are less then a handful of Nike Staffers even using them. -
Help with tuning original R11
Chris Shades replied to Chris Shades's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks for the input guys. I've determined that it is true in turning down the loft that the face sits open a bit hence the slicing. When I messed with the virtual tuning on taylormades website it shows how the trajectory is effected by tuning and turning down loft promotes more fade. The weights are already setup draw biased. I also hit the new RBZ tp driver at golfsmith on their new launch monitor (So cool like virtual golf) just to see for myself how I can handle the 9* loft. I was hitting a consistant subtle fade (oh yeah, just how I like it!) 270-278 yards. If I can achieve those results with my old R11 with proper tuning, I would be very happy, if not you may see my driver for sale on ebay and a new RBZ driver in my bag. -
I got my R11 last year and have since been using it with the factory settings un-tampered with (10.5 loft, neutral face). I am now trying to achieve a lower ball flight so I have turned the loft down by 1* degree making it a 9.5* degree loft. The only problem is now I am starting have a bad slice and shortened distance by about 20 yards. I like to hit a subtle fade but this is crazy? My question is, In turning down the loft should the face set to "Close" or should I get a lesson? When I had it set to a 10.5 loft I was consistently hitting straight 245-250 yard drives and once in a while I would get a little fade but the trajectory was pretty high and not ideal for windy days on the course.

Quote: After thought: If they aren't combing the lie/length, then they are in fact suggesting an effective lie of 5.75 degrees for you. Yikes. Exactly what I was thinking. After making this post I was checking out my iron's at address and my short irons toe looks a little too far down. I would have to line up with the butt of the grip pointing much lower then my belt buckle to get the club lined up like my mid irons. I may have the loft/lie checked since I have played with my irons allot and haven't checked the loft/lie in a while. Not sure how the lie angle could go flat from playing, though? I may end up needing an extra degree upright..

I'm just curious how many users of Pings online fitting tool via Ping's website actually used that as fitting info to buy your choice of golf clubs or have your irons bent. I got my iron's an inch over and 2* upright (I'm 6'5 wrist 37.5 to the floor) and the ping online web fitting shows me I should have an inch over length and 3.75" upright irons (silver dot). I am already used to and like to play a bit of a fade so I'm going to keep my setup the way it is.

Looking to buy some new Irons...help?

Check out ebay. Wide selection at great prices. Make sure to get a set with stiff flex steel shaft's. -
Hey Mkoop, welcome to the boards. The adams golf brand is a great name brand of gear today but not as big or popular on tour as some of the industry giants like Taylormade, Titleist & Ping. There are a good plenty of Staffer's on tour that play for Adam's golf on the Pga tour and LPGA as well but it actually seems to be a bit more popular of a brand on the Champions tour. Taylormade is a pretty dominant brand in store's and on all pro tour's without a question. Does that mean Taylormade makes all the best gear hands down? No, it's all prefference but Taylormade know's how to market there stuff pretty good. The best thing for you to do is get the set you are most comfortable with and that is attractive in looks for you. If the club looks good standing over a shot, there's increased confidence right there. So get the set that makes you happy, be it Adams, Taylormade, Snake eye's, Lynx or whatever. Good luck with your choice and come back and post up with what clubs you ended up with and be sure to post pics! (I'm a ***** for gear pics).

I'm looking for an older set of Mizuno iron's that is comparable to my Vr blades. I've heard that the Mp 14's, 29's and 33's are all comparable but have never seen a set in person. I've seen the Mp 14 and 29 on ebay for some really good prices too. If you have hit these clubs or owned a set, please share your input.

I really appreciate everyone's feedback on this subject. It seems like a majority of player's (Low/Mid & High handicap) do in fact prefer to have a gap wedge handy. I always thought that carrying around too many wedges was a bad thing? I'v even seen some criticism on the boards here and on other forums towards players that carry more then Pw, Sw & Lw. I guess it all depends on your distance with wedges and what everyone is comfortable with carrying. I can agree with some people who have posted about carrying more wedges on an executive course. It would make more sense since the distances are shorter and having more wedges on a short course would benefit a player better to score lower. I think I will be changing my gear/wedge setup pending the type of course I play now.

Last month I was looking to replace my 3 iron with a hybrid since the 3 is my least consistent iron. With all the rocketballz hype I gave in and got a 22* hybrid (even though I had preferred a 21* but didn't find any in the RBZ brand). I had taken it to the range twice and mishit it a few more times then I'd like to admit, played a round with it and couldn't connect with the new club on the course either. I exchanged it for a 21* Burner 2.0 hybrid and 2 dozen new penta tp's. The next time on the range with the Burner hybrid, Zero mishit's, insane ball flight, distance, feel and overall added confidence just looking down at address. Played a round with the Burner in the bag and can't understand why I haven't replaced the 3 iron with a hybrid earlier before. In conclusion, I don't think that RBZ is a bad brand and I'm not trying to knock it, but I'm starting to learn for myself that newer is not always better.

Forgive me for not being more specific. I used to play with Mizuno Jpx 800's, I now play with Nike Vr Pro's which are weaker lofted throughout the set. It is the full bladed set and not the progressive set. With my old Mizuno set I would hit a 32* 7 iron 150 yards. To reach 150 yards now, I use the *39 8 iron from my nike set. Trajectory probably play's a roll in all the longer distance since I also changed to dynamic gold s300 stiff shaft's as well. I'm getting a bit off topic but I just wanted to explain myself a little better to back up my previous statements.

Looking for a ball recommendation
Chris Shades replied to Chris Stewart's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
IMO the NXT and Gamer V2 and pretty similar. For the price, might as well go with the V2's.
