  1. I keep hearing the term "hitting the ball fat". What exactly does that mean?u
  2. Anybody buy one of these gadgets for their wedges? Does it work? Need anything that will help me spin the ball back on up/down shots.
  3. I'm sort of in the same situation as you. Been taking the game seriously this season and spent a lot of time at the range. Although at the range all seems well, at the course it's a different story. In relation to your situation, the range mats don't give the same feel/feedback as doing it on real turf, I find my shots at range don't have full extension b/c I'm avoiding hitting the turf (and jamming my club into the mat). At the course, the same shot would take a nice divot. Best tips I was given was to take what you learn on the course to the range, not vice versa. As well as, spend more time at the course instead of whacking balls at the range. Best advice I've been given so far...
  4. Specs for the X-12's are PW (46*) SW (55*). Any recommended setups?
  5. Just thought I'd get some feedback on whether I need to upgrade my wedges. I've been passed down a set and I've got: - Callaway X-12 PW - Callaway X-12 SW - Ram Tom Watson 55* SW Do I need to upgrade my wedges, if so, which ones should I replace and to what lofts? For approach shots longer than 100 yards, and sand bunker shots with a good lie, I use my PW. For chip shots, deep sand bunker shots and approach shots shorter than 100 yards I use my 55* SW (it's pretty much my "go to" club that saves my hide when I'm in a tough spot). I find I hardly use my X-12 SW. Any thoughts?
  6. Okay, so just had a horrible morning at the course yesterday. Although at the driving range I could hit my irons well, at the course everything that could go wrong did. When hitting my irons I did two key things that I could not correct during the round: - I kept sculling the ball and lifting my head. - I couldn't get my club under the ball to get it in the air Basically most of my shots were fairly flat. Any tips to help me keep my head from popping up to early and to keep sweeping through the shot??
  7. Not sure if I can maintain my dignity with a yellow or pink ball I've lost my fair share of golf ball sleeves, just getting to the point now where I may lose 1-2 balls in a given round.
  8. Alright I'm a newbie... At this point, does the make/type/brand of the ball really matter? How much of an impact does the golf ball have at this stage of my golfing 'career'? Or should I pretty much standardize on a mid-high avg quality ball and stick to it...eliminating it as a variable?
  9. Thanks for the input. I thought so, basically with my stance and hand position, my hands are either in line with the club/ball or even ahead of it (b/c of the offset of my club). I was getting pretty decent results with this combined with my new TM R7 460...until the duffer came along and made me question my technique. Goes to show that just b/c someone has a tip doesn't mean it's right for everyone...be careful who you listen to!
  10. I just wanted to get an idea of whether what I've been doing is right. When I tee up my driver, I position my clubface square to the ball. Since my driver has an offset, my hand position is towards my left leg (not in the center of my stance)..I'm right handed. Basically when I position my clubface, when its square, I let it dictate where my hand position should be. So far when I swing it works for me and I'm fairly comfortable. Is this the right way to go? I had an old duffer at the range tell me to position my hands at center at all times. I found when driving the ball I was pulling my swing b/c I couldn't clear it properly, resulting in a bad slice. Thoughts?
  11. I'm a newbie as well (been away from the game for 5yrs and starting to take it seriously this time around). What I've found that has improved my swing overall has been to slow down my back swing. Instead of a quick, jerky take-away swing, my back swing is probably 80-90% of a full speed back swing. (I've also slowed my down swing to about 90%) I've found that I hit the ball square in the face much more often with this technique and balls are more frequently playable. By slowing down your back swing you'll probably find that your technique/position improves. It's working so far for me
  12. The SuperQuad has movable weights in the rear, which are supposed to change the loft of the club (or was it trajectory of the ball?) by up to 1*. With the extra 2 weight options it allows for much more configurations than the 460. I recently purchased an R7 460 and it launches the ball pretty high, I chose it b/c of budget considerations. I have no problems getting the golf ball off the ground. I've recently picked up the game again after a few years; I thought I'd have some club envy b/c I didn't shell out the extra $$$ for the SuperQuad. But after my first range visit with the new club, I was quite pleased with the 460.
  13. I agree. I think for some people having the best club they could afford gives them a confidence boost that shows up in their game. For others, they've got confidence (and skill) just oozing out of them and for the most part it doesn't matter what clubs they play, they'll still score well regardless.
