  1. as we are discussing about low carb diet, Our Stone Age ancestors certainly roughed themselves for food. They butchered the kill during the marathon hunt that lasted for days. They wandered for miles to gather wild fruits, grains and nuts. If they wanted to eat something sweet, beehive was smoked out of the bees to get the honey. This was done by climbing up a tree or chopping it down. Hard way to food! Studies indicate that human beings come into the world with hundreds of genes and associated hormones that regulate the energy-balance equation. Calories consumed by us on one side and calories burned, through physical activity and calories needed to keep the body healthy on the other. Anything left over transforms into body fat. As a society we are in a state of nutritional crisis and in need of thorough remedies. Today more than 60% of adults in the U.S. are classified as overweight or obese. Many children have become so heavy that pediatricians are now facing an epidemic of Type 2 diabetes and hypertension—diseases that are closely associated with the overweight and that were unheard of among youngsters just a generation ago. Kelly Brownell, director of the Yale University Center for Eating and Weight Disorders says "Physical activities have been engineered out of day-to-day life, and the food environment grows worse by the day”. For those who are overweight, or who have diabetes, the low-calorie and low-fat diets recommended do not work well. In fact, for diabetics, they can actually worsen the condition. The only diet that strikes at the real cause of obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, hypoglycaemia, and type 2 diabetes is a low-carbohydrate diet.
  2. Back pain is a recurrent problem among golf players. Majority of the players suffer from regular back aches which develop while playing. Most often the ache can develop if players do not exercise regularly or condition their bodies according to the needs of the game. Back aches can also occur if the game is played for too long a duration or during some specific golf swings. Researchers have found that golfers experience aches when the club hits the ball and during the follow-through of the swing. The tilting of the player's body to one side during this swing action also contributes to the back ache. Orthopedics usually asks golfers to make the swing upright rather than sideways to avoid this mishap. There are various ways to cure the back ache: massage, acupuncture, physical therapies, chiropractic, muscle relaxants and pain killers. It is best to take the opinion of a doctor before opting for any of these. For extreme pain one can take an anti-inflammatory medicine but it is better to opt for rest for a few days. A few exercises and ice packs can also help to lessen the pain. Since inflammation softens the tissue, any extra bending or twisting can further damage it. Some easy exercises have helped golfers to carry on with playing without experiencing the lower back ache. These exercises also help the muscles to be strong and endure wear and tear. Chiropractic adjustments help to lessen acute low back ache. However, this treatment is short-lived. If the muscle spasm is not reduced and the motion restored, bouts of back ache would continue to recur. A therapeutic exercise goes a long way in helping the muscle to work. Whenever a low back pain occurs, a golfer should first consult a doctor to check out if any other reason is there behind the pain. This should be followed by making oneself comfortable. With the hips and knees bent to 90 degrees, one can lie on one's back near a sofa. Resting the calves on the sofa will help to remove the pressure from the area. As the lower back eases out, an ice pack can be placed underneath. The ice would reduce and break the inflammation.
  3. hi mvmac, yes i have indoor putting matt. Since most of us do not have enough hours in the day, an indoor putting mat allows you to practice at any time of day and during any type of weather condition. As you use your indoor putting mat, you will be able to focus on the fundamentals of your putting stroke without feeling any pressure of making a putt. You can find indoor putting mats and putting greens in various lengths and sizes. They also come with slopes, curves, and hazards. Lengths usually vary from about three to fifteen feet long. Most of the cup sizes are a little smaller than the size of the cup on the golf course green. But this is good because it should help to sharpen your putting skills. Practicing with the putting mat should make the regulation cup on the golf course appear to be larger. Most of these putting mats will provide you the feel of putting on a well groomed green. Most artificial putting mats are portable. You can roll them up for storage, placing them in your car, and even carry them on an airplane. A number of the putting mats even have an automatic ball return. Another great aspect of these putting greens is the ability to adjust them. You can usually adjust the length, degree of break, pitch, and even the elevation. Do not worry if you are left handed because most of the mats can be used by right handed and left handed golfers.
