This Fall I was playing at a course that was surrounded by houses. On 18, the fairway runs parallel to one of the neighborhood streets, with about 5 yards of rough and a couple of pine trees separating the fairway from the street. I pull a drive left, over one of the pine trees and it disappears for a second. I hear this *WHACK* and it bounces back into the fairway about 200 yards away. I booked it down the street to make sure I didn't hit a car or something, but it turns out I hit a mailbox. It was one of those molded plastic ones and there was a perfect dent right in the top of it, you could see dimples and everything. I walked away whistling a little "nothing to see here" tune...

Who needs mulligans when you have a time machine?

I just wish there was a company that would dispense with the "quirky" look of some of these shoes and give us something that doesn't make us look like we live in a camper trailer on a commune somewhere. The TRUE shoes look pretty nice, but I think the majority of people who buy stuff like VFFs are doing it for the "look at me" factor.

I was out with my bad luck charm of a friend yesterday on our mangy "resort" course. As is usually the case when I play with him, I was demonstrating my proficiency in slicing 150 yard drives, chunking wedge shots over the green and 4 putting and was generally having a crap day. I focused what little positive juju I had left on the 200 yard par 3 hole. For some reason it just felt like I was due for a great shot as I stepped up to the tee with my 4-hybrid. I striped a beauty right down the middle, it hit about 3 feet in front of the hole, hopped twice and stopped about 10 feet above the hole. I was faced with a downhill right-to-left break on a green that was patchy, lumpy and half-covered in pine straw. Whatever... I just went into BEEST MODE and drained it for birdie.

went to my local golf HQ on new years eve for their final day of busniess. I got some balls, some divot tools, a bunch of gloves and one of those fancy mizuno hats with the little magnet in the bill for your ball marker. no more golf stores in town.... *sad face*

Meanwhile in Indiana, where the temperature hit SIXTY yesterday, all the courses are closed for the winter. Including the facility with the heated driving range and indoor simulator.

Reading this thread made me think this thing was a wet, steaming pile. Then I saw that Jessica from True Blood was the romantic interest. I'm gonna watch this movie 1000 times.

I had 3 different 9-iron shots from the rough go over trees for GIR this week. Yesterday I had 4 personal-best drives (292 being the best of the lot). Not a bad way to end the year.

86 today on a weedy course with mangy greens.

The weather girl lied, it only got up to about 40, but I still pounded out an 86 on our "resort" course. Was KILLING the ball off the tee. Adios, 2011!

It's supposed to be 50-something tomorrow and all the muni courses and the executive course (ironically titled "fore seasons") are closed for the season. My only hope for a final round in 2011 will be the jank "resort" course on the north side and I don't even know if they're open. I mean, I guess I could bum rush the exec course. It's not like there's a fence or anything....

Yeah, this was my 4th trip to Nashville this year, but my first as a golfer. We usually stay in the Hilton Garden Inn downtown and walk down Broadway and do all that, but since we were out by the airport this time we couldn't participate in the "activities" too much... One of the guys I was playing with at McCabe said they completely reworked the north course. They tore out at least one hole to build the driving range and moved the rest of them around to fit the new configuration. The ninth hole on north looks like something straight out of Scotland -- super hilly, the green is buried behind about 4 hills and an entire beach worth of sand. I thought the greens were in pretty good shape, maybe a little slow, but that might have had something to do with the rain on Monday and Tuesday. Between the weather, the courses and hanging out at Edwin Watts, it was definitely a good trip. Makes me sad that our Golf HQ store is closing for good tomorrow

I played Wednesday morning at Two Rivers. The course was pretty rough, but I could see how it would be a great course in the summer. Yesterday I played the middle and north courses at McCabe and that was great! The north course is very hilly and challenging and I wouldn't hesitate to play there again if I come back when things are a little greener. One thing I didn't expect was how brown all the courses were. Up here everything is still very green and it's been colder here than in Tennessee. Must be different grass, maybe?
