  1. I must have stumbled upon a forum off all real pros when i was reading up on the MP-33 b/c most of them said this was easier to hit than most people think and how forgiving it was. but again, i don't know until i try it out. I'll look into the MP-57 as well. thanks.
  2. I've been reading alot of good things about the mp-33's. Looks like i'm taking another trip to the golf shop for lunch tomorrow.
  3. I tried the Minzuno mx-100, 200 & 300's during lunch. Out of the 3, I like the 300s the best. Next trip out, i'll check out the Pings.
  4. I was just afraid the hybrids might be tougher to control. But I will definately have to hit a few mx-200 amoungst others.
  5. Coincidentally, I was hitting the MX950's earlier today at the golf shop and was very impressed by them. However, it's a hybrid and I'm assuming there has to be a drawbacks w/ hybrid irons??
  6. Are you getting more distance as well utilizing SnT w/ the driver?
  7. by "DGSL300, PX 5.5, or KBS Tour Stiff" i'm assuming you are referring to shafts (sorry, i haven't done much research when it comes to equipment but starting to since i'm getting more serious w/ golf). I'll keep those shafts in mind. Also, a few other members recommended Mzuno or Ping irons, so at least i've narrowed my search down to Ping or Mzuno stiff shaft irons. the search continues... As my swing is developing, i do feel the reg shafts being a bit whippy. I'll have to go back to the golf shop and compare reg and stiff flex shafts.
  8. I was at the golf shop earlier today looking for some irons and decided to test out a few 6 irons. My average swing speed was 87mph (90mph w/ hybrid mzuno 6 iron). Does anyone know what this equates to w/ a driver? Also, what shaft stiffness should I be using, I currently have regular shafts on all my clubs.
  9. thanks, i'll definately look into the PING GI sets... around $500.... new or used.
  10. I'm in the market for a new set of irons and was wondering what you guys recommend. My handicap is 11.4 and i'm currently using an old Taylormade 200 series set.
  11. yup, at this stage you should focus on the fundamentals (grip, stance, posture). Develop a good base and build your swing upon that.
  12. THANK YOU STAN UTLEY!!! put all this talk & practice to work today. Played my best round early today and shot a 77 (it was a par 70 course)! I attribute most of the success to adopting Utley's putting technique. I only had one 3 putt and that was b/c i didn't read the downhill slope. Can't wait till next weeks round.
  13. I was browsing through the forum, looking for ways to improve my horrible putting and stumbled across Stan Utley's approach to putting. Although i'm practicing on the living room carpet, the putt feels good and hitting its target. Most importantly, i feel i have control of the putter going back and thru the ball. i'm anxious to put this into practice on my round this Saturday. Has anyone had GREAT success implementing Utley's technique?
  14. instead of focusing on your head, focus on your spine angle. next time at the range, focus on rotating around that spine angle and maintaining that angle throughout your swing, holding it there for the finish/pose.
  15. Bingo!! well said. I've finally realized this concept earlier in the year and my game is taking off. now if only i can putt If your swing mechanics is correct (weight shift, hip rotation, hold wrist hinge/lag), the club head should make contact w/ the ball first, then take a divot.
  16. First of all, thank you everyone for chiming in. During lunch, I must have viewed 10 different pitching tips on youtube. This is what i got from it: - normal stance (not open or closed, but can be slightly open) - about 60% weight on leading foot - on backswing, club head gets above hands - on downswing, turn hips (that's something i never did since my stance was open at address) - depending on what type of flight you want, position the ball accordingly: low flight = ball back of stance, hands ahead of ball medium flight = ball center of stance high flight (flop shot) = ball in front of stance, club head open - one or two tips mentioned taking divots vs sweeping the ball. anyhow, what i will probably focus on is my stance and turning the hips on downswing. also will play around with opening the club head for loftier shots.
  17. Or let me ask this. Do you guys take divots w/ a 25-30 yard pitch shot? b/c I think i'm picking the ball too cleanly therefor there's no backspin.
  18. Let's say I have a 25-30 yard pitch shot, I always get the ball up in the air and down, but it rolls another 10 yards. How do i get the ball to stop? here's my setup: slightly open to the target, ball position in the middle, weight on my leading foot, hands are ahead of the ball.
  19. "loading on left side" practice didn't go as well for me however my "hip slide" practice is just amazing. here's that thread if anyone's interested http://thesandtrap.com/forum/threads...301#post526301
  20. "hip slide" practice at the range today is working wonderfully! I'm now taking/making divots w/ my irons and FINALLY "compressing" the ball. wow, what a difference in ball flight and distance! I guess everyone is different b/c when i practice this, i don't necessarily "think" of anything, it's more of feel & timing to me.
  21. So this is what forum members refer to as "STACK & TILT" ? I'm a newbie in the forum so just need to get the terms correct. I'm definately going to try this after work today. we'll see how it goes.
  22. Sounds like something I was thinking of trying out at the range until I focused more on the "hip slide" on the transition. I'm wondering are you loosing any distance with this technique? and i'm sure this technique does not apply to fairway woods and driver as you are sweeping the woods and hitting the driver on an ascending path correct?
  23. did a little search and found a great thread on this same topic: http://thesandtrap.com/forum/threads...our-Hips/page1 seems like im on the right path, i just need to focus on sliding the hips without sliding my head. something to look forward working on at the range.
  24. Hey all, let me know if this is the correct way at approaching weight shifting with irons: On the top of my backswing there's a slight pause, from there my first move is a lateral shift towards the target (shifting weight from right to left leg) , then hips turn/clear and everything else follows. My biggest concern is the lateral shift, this causes my head to get in front of the ball. I've read or heard somewhere that the head should stay behind the ball until contact.
  25. so by this weekend i'll be a scratch player w/ an average of 350 yard drives!! then it will be worth the thousand dollars i paid for it!
