  2. Short par 4, 310 yards, dog leg left with trees lining the left side of the fair way. Put a nice swing on the ball on drew it around the trees as planned. Expected to find the ball some where short of the green or on the approach to the green. Drove around the corner and I saw my ball sitting up on the green. I was a nice start to the round
  3. I game a 56 Cleveland and a 52 Vokey. Like both for different reasons. Eventually I will have to part with the Cleveland it is showing some wear
  4. 9... Go Boilermakers... Great school
  5. Glad to hear the new sticks were worth the wait... may take you a little while to find your new distances. Did you find your dispersion and general accuracy was much better? I replaced my UltraGameImproving irons with AP2 712's and couldn't have been happier. In fact, I wish I would have done it sooner. Best of luck and enjoy watching your handicap go down
  6. I have also notice on older courses, there isn't a big difference between the front and the back. When I am hitting a few yards back of the reds, I am way too close. I agree with X129, one of my favorite round was from the whites on a short par 72 course. I typically play from the blues, most the guys I play with can really move the ball... but accuracy is always the great equalizer. One thing I hate is following someone playing from the tips, black/gold that have no business playing there. I makes for a long round and it is painful to watch.
  7. Great irons... I have seen a few sets of 710's at local golf stores in the $500+ range. They were 4-PW and demo sets. $ 400 is a great deal
  8. Thanks for the response everyone... I found the True Temper's website, it has a quite a bit of info as well, and a simple fitting tool... worth a look. I made an appointment with a local fitting center to get fitted. Once I realized how many selections there were, it was obvious I am going to need assistance picking the correct shafts. I am looking forward to the fitting, hoping it will shed some light on a couple of my concerns. I have a older (2006) set of Callaway Fusion irons (smaller version) which I have become used to. I would like to move forward with the correct length, lie, grip diameter, etc. I am sure, like many others, I just purchased a set of off the shelf irons and went for it. I do fear I am going to have to go backwards a bit in order to go forward.
  9. Scotty... Newport 2 - standard length
  10. Thanks MVMAC... that thread was quite informative. I struggle with the equipment vs skill/talent. I tell myself "its not the arrow its the Indian" but inevitably I end up wanting to purchasing a new driver, wedge, or this time irons... Technology will make it better. Obviously, this is what drives the golf business... and there has been some great new products, but there is also ALOT of marketing going on. Living in San Diego (Golf Headquarters) its not hard to know someone in the business. I have a friend who can get an employee cost deal and was going to get a set of irons for me. I have hit the irons (S300), but I have not hit them with different shafts. I just thought I would reach out and see if the flighted were a big deal or not. Thanks for sharing
  11. Looking for some insight on Precision flighted rifle shafts. Is there a noticeable difference between the Project X , S300, and Flighted? I was looking into lowering my ball flight for accuracy. I have not hit a set of flighted shaft irons and was considering making a trip to the training center to try them out. Are the flighted worth experimenting with? Thanks in advance!
  12. In my opinion, yes golf clubbing fitting is very helpful, but it can only help "tune" your swing. I have a TM R11 which I just do not hit as well as I would like... and I have tried several shafts, some clubs just do not fit some individuals. It might help if a golf pro helps examine your swing while driving. I am not the swing advise person, but there is typically a few telling traits leading to a large slice... I'm sure a qualified pro could point out a few items to help rid yourself of a slice. Best of luck... interested in which driver works best for you.
  13. I used to always carry a 60 degree lobby... found I didn't use it as much as I thought and I was not as consistent with it. A few years ago I started only carrying my 56 and 53... I spent quite a bit of time practicing with the 56 and I am very confident with it. In my opinion, confidence is a huge part of golf. I think everyone has a few go to clubs... my 56 is a go to club for me
