Fire hips for me is a pulling sensation with my left hip, towards target and up behind me. Low hands is a swing thought to me as I tend to have high hands leading to thin shots
-
When I lose distance it's because my hands are high (waist height feeling only). On the down swing I get the feeling of dropping my hands about 4 - 6 inches lower, below waist. I get much better strike and distance. Remember this is what I feel and might not be 100% real. Are you adding loft to your club by opening it on back swing? Making you PW more of a LW?

when looking for distance or max out a club, my 2 thoughts are fire the hips and keep my hands low. works for me, might not be for everyone though

looking for some advice here. not exactly sure whats happening but i seem to have developed a sway in the putter head during the stroke. if i line up a series of tees opposite to each other in a line and stroke the putter through them, i crashed into them constantly. it must be something in my set up, any ideas?

Too much back swing (over swing)

Miss is normally a hook -
can over swinging the club on the back swing have an effect on your transition? i have a fault where i tend to lunge into the ball with my upper body. ive tried loads of drills etc and although it is getting better i still do it a bit. my mate recorded my swing today and i noticed that i take the club too far back and was wondering if this could be the root cause. never reviewed the video until i got home so not had a chance to try anything out. if this is the cause, anyone have any drills or recommendations on shortening the back swing? thanks in advance

Another update. 2 obvious faults are lunging forward a bit (face on), slight early extension (dtl) any tips to avoid would be appreciated

How far do you hit your clubs?
davieboy1872 replied to SpringBokVol's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
updated using GC2, trackman and 3bays GSA (average carry's). also changed my irons, bit less distance, much more accuracy Driver 242 yards 3 Wood 227 yards 5 wood 218 yards 3 hybrid 195 5 iron 181 6 iron 170 7 iron 153 8 iron 144 9 iron 130 PW 119 AW 50 deg 98 yards LW 54 deg 83 SW 60 deg 75 all swings at reasonable tempo (not trying to kill it). "kill it" distances - take at least 50 yards off each club :-) -
simple answer is keep your head behind the ball, loosen your grip and accelerate through the shot

Played a full round on Saturday. Scored 76 on a par 72 and to be honest it could have easily been 72. im blaming the greens for a couple of missed birdie putts within 5 feet and a couple of 3 putts as the greens have been forked and sanded so a bit bumpy. played 9 holes yesterday and was 2 over, same again - 3 putted the first from 8 feet due to bumpy greens. both days my ball striking has been the best its ever been. i go to the range tonight and my ball contact and flight was terrible. anyone else suffer this very quick loss of form??

club release - automatic or not??

Like skimming a stone?? I've never done any active release of club, normally let gravity do the work, but suppose I should give it a go -
club release - automatic or not??
davieboy1872 replied to davieboy1872's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
That was my thinking too until earlier. Was browsing golf channel instruction videos, one from Martin hall?? He was promoting it as an active thought or action Confused!! -
is the release of a golf club a conscious act or does it happen automatically through a good swing?

a wee update, appologies for the quality as i had to balance my iphone on my golf bag

the shanks - a regular occurence
davieboy1872 replied to davieboy1872's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yep, I do have an in to out swing path, natural shot is a draw. Looks like it was too severe. I will go to the range after work to see if i can repeat last nights success. Funny how these things can creep into your game. The day it happened I was on a launch monitor at an indoor golf academy. The first 20 - 30 shots were great. I was getting an average smash factor of 1.46 which I believe is pretty good. Then suddenly I was mis hitting everything with no obvious swing change. Hate and love this game -

appreciate it, thanks. went to the range tonight. hit 60 balls. first 3 were shanks. the rest were fantastic. after the 3 shanks, went to the Xplanar and it then occured to me that my swing path was off on the follow through, so i made an exagerated effort to exit left. BINGO! it worked so hopefully im shank free for a while, no doubt it will be back for a 4th time -

davieboy1872 replied to davieboy1872's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
It's not fixed:-( Having a nightmare just now. When I manage to not shank it, I lose about 60 yards of distance. Normal shot with 8 iron is around 152 carry. Struggled to reach the 100 marker tonight. Hate this game:-( -

davieboy1872 replied to davieboy1872's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Think I have fixed it, my right hand was dominating the swing. Loosened the pressure on it and let my left had take the lead. -
in my short golfing career, less than 3 years, i have developed the shanks 3 times. the first time i was around the 19 handicap bracket, tried a few swing changes that worked for a wee while and managed to improve my ball striking. however a few days later i got a terrible case of the shanks. as i worked my way through it (approx 3 weeks) i managed to shake it off and got myself to a 14 handicap. the second time was similar, a few tweeks to the swing for improvement which worked and again, a few days later, boom! shanksville. once i got by that dose, my game massively improved, ball contact was superb, could shape shots and distance increased massively. got down to around 8 handicap and regularly broke 80 on my course which is par 72. this is the 3rd time. again brought on by trying to move to the next level. went to the range and for the first 30 or so balls everything was great. then it happened again. if you stood next to me on the range just now you would think it was the 1st time i had ever swung a club. what the **** is going on?? is this normal for someone who is improving?

not accelarating through the ball was my problem

elbows tucked in should be the first thing you need to work on. stay conneted and in control

Power loss?? clubhead speed...Help
davieboy1872 replied to nondualistic's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
This happened to me after the shanks too. I was hitting rather than swinging. Think this was a mental issue brought by worry about more shanks. My cure was loosen arms and grip, swing the club and accelerate through the shot Hope this helps
