Well in your price range what comes to mind is Taylormade Burners 2.0. They might be a little bit higher but aren't a bad club for beginners. You can also check out used clubs Callaway preowend is an excellent site, look for something in the big bertha line either the 2008 or 2006 model.

Thats a very wide generalization that just isnt true. there are plenty of golfers above a 5 handicap heck even a 15 that are more than capable of hitting stiff shafts at a normal swing speed.

A couple of questions regarding wedges please help
mosnas replied to mosnas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My 4-GW where custom fitted with the 1/2 inch extension, my non set wedges (54, 56) were not custom fitted with any extension just standard length. -
Saves my ass so much when I go out to a new course (thankfully a lot have them in the cart). I don't notice a big difference when it comes to telling me how far a green is, but it's the hazards that save my ass. It makes the difference from going for the green in 2 on a par 5 and getting a 6 (after losing a ball) and laying up and making an easy par or birdie.

Thank you so much for saying this. I hate the gross generalization that because I'm I high handicapper that it automatically means I should be using SGI's. I'm not sure if my clubs are classified as blades (maybe a deep cavity type) but I can hit them fine, as a good athlete coordination is not a problem. A lot more golfers are high handicap because they can't hit a driver consistently (I definately fall under that category)

A couple of questions regarding wedges please help

The only thing fretting me is people are saying a 60 is a devil to hit, which is what tempted me to go with the 54, 58 set up. -

So i should definately lengthen it? Sorry im new on the whole custom fitting world you can lenthen a wedge correct? -
Just before this turns into a frenzy I'm gonna offer my experience and knowledge I acquired from members here. Forged vs Cast is just a different way of making irons. The difference isn't much more than that, to each his own some claim they feel better others say they don't (it can be a rather touchy subject here). Now that being said im similar to your handicap and just recently switched over from Callaway 2004 big berthas to Adams Pro Black CB1. I couldn't be happier with the switch. I didn't care if what I bought was forged or not (i was told there is no difference) I just wanted to upgrade to a players iron with a nice small soul and thin topline. That being said depending on how well your ball striking is buying a muscle back may not be the best idea without trying them and hitting various shots with them, as you probably know they are not near as forgiving as any other clubs. Id try to stick to blades with a deep-medium cavity just because the consistency and forgiveness is a little nicer to have sometimes. Im not very experienced with muscle backs but im sure other members can help you out.

My brothers outlook on the game is this "You see golf is just a few shots no one cares about crammed between 12-14 drives." Needless to say he's the guy that swings so hard his backfoot slips. He's actually a descent golfer if he tries, he only gets out a few times a year though so he swings for the fences everytime.

Ok so I just upgraded my 2004 Big Berthas to some Adam CB1's got them all custom fitted with 1/2 inch extensions. Now my old wedges seem to be possessed i seem to be heeling an awful lot of shots especially with my 56*. So my wedge set up is as follows, 47* stock PW 51* stock GW 52* Taylormade tp (8* bounce) 56* Callaway X chrome (13* bounce) So to my main question, how much length should be between my 51* and 56* because right now it is about an 1 to 1.5 inches. Also now with my old clubs being a little weaker lofted then my old ones has made my 52 irrelevent. So I was wondering what kind of spacing I should be looking for between my wedges (5* seems a little high). Also if you can offer me any recommendations for wedges under 120 that would be great.

Adams CB1 pro black forged, I know they are an older model but they are my recent purchase and my pride and joys

Thats definetely a tad excessive for sure but companies are pretty good with replacing them I find. Ive had it happen to similar sporting equipment (snowboards) where the company literally has a bad batch of product. I went through 4 brand new products until finally they just sent me a new model from a different year.

Well it depends if I'm using my RBZ then usually it ads like 20 yards on to my irons for some reason In all honesty I'm not exact but all of these are just for nice easy swings that I don't over exert myself for just nice and easy. Driver-270 3 wood 240-250 5 wood- F***in thing is cursed 4i-210 5i-200 6i-185 7i-170 8i-155 9i-150 47*-140 51*-130-135 52*-120-125 (bought before i got a new set that was a touch weaker lofted than my old ones) 56*-105-115

What can you tell me about forged irons?
mosnas replied to mosnas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I just want to say thank you to Shorty and the others who agree with him. I went to hit and try out some clubs today brought in some Adams pro cb1's (which are forged) ill say as a big guy it takes me a while to get warmed up in these small compacted simulators. After watching me make a few awkward swings he said the following "you know this club is for more skilled players forged irons are made for more skilled players that want more feedback." to which he brought back a bunch of other irons. after hitting through those i said let me see the adams again. I stepped up walloped a few long bomb 7 irons and then he shut his mouth. To be honest I didnt feel this butter that everyone was talking about. I bought them cause they were the most appealing at address and were the most consistent for distance. so again thank you to those who believe that forged is no different than a manufacturing method. -
What can you tell me about forged irons?
mosnas replied to mosnas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Well usually I see the forged clubs under the players irons and was just wondering what kind of hitting characteristics separate them from cast irons and cavity backs. And I know forged irons don't have to be thin but for the most part of the ones i looked at the forged irons were much thinner than say a razr x or similar irons. -
I posted a thread earlier asking about a few different types of golf clubs. After doing some research looking and hitting some clubs Ive taken a look at forged irons. Being a mid to high handicapper (shoot mid to high 80s on a good day) i havent really considered these types of clubs before. The only experience i have with forged clubs are my wedges and i absolutely love them mostly for the thin topline and thin souls. So I was wondering if under any circumstances you would recommend forged irons to someone who isnt a low handicapper. Also iron striking has never been a big problem for me the problem i have with my current irons is the topline and souls are way to wide and make it difficult to take divots out and hit my natural shot.

So the X24s are under the game improvement category (one higher than the super game improvement of my big berthas)? Ya im not necessarily going for the super long ball nor am I gonna spend more money than necessary. Ive been told about club fitting and im wondering how much does it cost at a big chain store?

Alright guys so like the title suggests I bought 04 big berthas in 2006 when i was around 12-13 years old. I loved them for the first few years but as I got older and stronger it seems ive just out grew them. Plus the super wide souls are extremely annoying I cant stand them. As well as the biggest thing that made me upset was my inability to crank up or down my shot depending on what kind of yardage I needed or wanted a little umph when going out of the rough. No matter how hard I swung they would go the same distance. So after doing some research and playing around with my dads and friends clubs (x18 and x20tours) ive decided that maybe I should make a purchase to some higher class irons maybe these player irons or game improvement irons. Some specs about me: Im 6'2 and 18 years old handicap of around 15-20 (not really sure) I use a stiff shaft (swing speed is around 100) on my driver Ive been told when i was demoing drivers that I hit a very high trajectory Im open to all sorts of ideas im looking between the 500-650 range so far ive been researching: Adams idea black CB2 Callaway x24 hots Nike Pro Cavity Victory Reds Titleist AP1's Please if you guys could give me input on these clubs or any others i should consider that would be great thanks
