  1. As colin said, rotating hands to the right is a stronger grip, not weaker. Traditionally, this increases the ability to produce draw spin. For me, I have never given thought to my thumb or index finger pressure, but to just have a nice relaxed overall pressure. When I'm hitting well though, I do feel that I'm pressing down on the grip with the base of my index finger during the downswing..
  2. Bullit, don't you realize that Patrick knows your golfing emotions better than your do? You're obviously in denial. BTW, thank you for your service bro.
  3. Not enough info to go on. So you're wiping across out-in, but are you finishing with weight on the back foot? Chicken winging? Standing up and pulling off? I will just offer standard boiler plate stuff: - from the top, slide the hips forward a bit and drop your hands down behind your body (instead of casting out and away) - swing in-out trying to hit the inside quarter of the ball - keep your weight forward and your head still - release the clubhead into the ball by rolling the right hand over the left - follow thru by extending the hands and club out and away from the body You can try to incoporate all of these keys, but sometimes just doing one will do the trick..
  4. Of course a consistent pre-shot routine (checlist) is essential for consistent shotmaking. Mine is: - Yardage - Determine shot (considering wind, lie, elevation, pin location, etc.) - Pull club - Practice the swing that will produce the desired shot (this is when I consciously activate any particlular swing keys) - Address ball for desired shot - Swing (as this point my only swing thought is eye on ball and hit it crisp)
  5. If you hit a 200yd 6 iron, I think you should be giving me tips. So...how do you hit your irons so far, esp with a restricted shoulder turn?
  6. I used to feel fear when I first started league play, but that was 10 yrs ago, and I can't remember the last time I felt fear playing this game , during Sun matches or even in the club championship. My emotions during a round tend to be closer to 'I can't wait to hit this next shot'. I am new here, but I can already tell that it's a good thing that you won't be taking me seriously Patrick.
  7. I invented the S&T;! I mean this only half in jest. I actually stumbled on the major aspects of S&T; through my own bumblings over many years. Let me explain.. 25 yrs ago I started this weird game with a pretty natural swing. I kept my right elbow stuck to my ribs during takeaway and hit a consistent fade that would sometimes turn into a bannana slice (from standing up/pulling off). Played this way pretty casually and contentedly for maybe 10 yrs (once a month kind of golfer). Then, I started getting more serious, and made the BIG mistake of soliciting swing advice from the likes of Golf Digest. All kinds of garbage was going into my head, one piece of which was that you should move your weight back onto you right leg during the backswing, and then shift back forward to hit. Ack. I spent the next 5 yrs thinning, fatting, pushing, and pulling. I couldn't figure it out. Why was I getting worse when I was getting all this great professional advice?? Then, I clearly remember one day out at a local course. I had spent the first 6 holes or so hitting almost literally EVERY shot fat. I was getting really despondent, and had just chunked an 80 yd sand wedge. Then, in a fit of desperation, I figured if I am always hitting 1 or 2 inches behind the ball, I'm just goint to FORCE myself to set up 1 or 2 inches ahead of my normal position (I mean with the ball in its regular position in my stance, but with my CG and head shifted forward). I dropped another ball, and pured my wedge. I played the rest of that round close to par in a dream state. What an epiphany! It felt really strange with more weight on my front leg, but I couldn't argue with the results. I went home and cancelled my Golf Digest subscription. For the next couple years I had to reinforce this concept, as I kept drifting back to my old swing, and it took me that long to really become convinced that this was the way for me. Then, one day I'm watching GC and I see a commerial for a revolutionary new swing approach and these guys are calling it 'Stack and Tilt', and I see some vids of this new swing, and I was like, 'Hey, I invented that!'. Actually, it was good validation for me that I wasn't some weird golf abberation. Since then, I have incorporated a 'Still Head' into my weight forward technique, and I'm humming along nicely. I can crush drives and shape shots, and most of all I love the feel of a pured 3 iron blade. Long live the S&T;!
  8. I guess the OP must be a natural athelete, because for most folks, high swing speed goes away the faster they try to swing because they throw all their speed away at the top. High swing speed comes from proper use of the legs, core, and shoulders, proper timing, wide arc, and a good lag. These are things that are usually elusive to raw beginers... I too am looking forward to his vid.
  9. Huh? You're one week into golf and your driver SS is in the 120s? That's Bubba territory. We'll be seeing you on tour soon I guess.
  10. Personally I wouldn't listen to anything offered from a Dick's employee, whether it's about golf, tennis, or fishing. They are mainly kids that don't have much knowledge about anything besides facebook and tweeting. But then maybe it's just my local Dick's store.. I'm with the other poster on used clubs. Much better IMO to get decent used clubs rather than cheap POS new clubs.
  11. Oh crap I remember those. Put a set of those along with a Power Pod driver in your bag, and put them on display at the Guggenheim as outsider art.
  12. Use more rotation, and less sway. Especially from your hips to your knees, there's a lot of sliding back on the takeaway. Picture your spine as a steel rod going down through the top of your head and anchoring at your tailbone. That rod does not move laterally on the takeaway, but the shoulders and hips rotate around the rod. That, plus keeping more weight on the front leg should help with the sway. Also, your right hand is pretty strong, which can inhibit the release..
  13. I recently bought a new set of Wilson Staff blades. All they say is 'Tour Blade' on them. I asked the seller if they were a new model in the Staff line, and he said they were actually a re-issue of a classic FG model (FG2 I think) made for one of the large distributors. Anyway, they are drop dead gorgeous! Before that, I had Macgreggor MT pro M blades, (my son is now playing them), and they are pretty easy on the eyes also...
  14. I am a research chemist. I test explosives detection systems.
