  2. Ernest - as you can tell, I was under the same impression you're in regarding changing your stance and the alignments of your body. In fact I'm glad you asked your questions as it told me I'm not the only confused one out there regarding this topic Thanks Erik and Mike - I think you two have answered my questions and solved this mystery for me. For some reason, I've always thought that opening or closing your stance ONLY means you change your footings but the rest of your body alignment (hips, shoulders, arms, etc) all remain the same lining up parallel left of the target. Thinking in terms of a closed stance being that I'm lining up right of the target with a clubface that is closed to my stance (and vice versa for an open stance) connected the dots for me. Have a great one!
  3. You are right in that the example I cited is a closed stance but I'm still missing something... You said when you close your stance, your whole alignment changes. I have some follow-up questions: 1. When you close your stance, you'd have to re-position the ball to be in the correct location based on your new stance (as opposed to leaving the ball where it was when you're in the parallel left position and then playing the ball from there with your closed stance)? 2. If the answer to question #1 is a yes, then to me, a closed stance is nothing more than lining up right of target with a closed club face - is this correct? I'm not sure if my questions from above make sense....
  4. Hi Erik - thanks for this valuable thread! Erik / All - I could use a little more clarification on alignment changes. When you make an alignment change, what exactly changes besides moving one of your foot back a little? Does your should alignment, ball position, hands, or head changes? For example, let's say your normal setup is parallel to the target line. When you open up your stance (let's say 4 degrees to the right), you move your back foot (for righties) back a little. Does anything else changes or is that just it? I'm assuming nothing else changes and you play the ball as it sits? Thanks in advance!
  5. I just signed up for evolvr and got my first evaluation last week from James H. I felt that James did identify the biggest issue with my swing and showed me what to do to correct it. Additionally James also explained the cause and effect. Even though I've only received one lesson feedback, I can tell that I did the right thing by signing up and that my game will improve dramatically over the next few months. I've been a long time lurker of this forum and try to read up on what I can and THINK that I have a somewhat decent understanding of the golf swing. The thing is, there is a difference between knowing the technical aspect of the swing and being able to properly diagnose / assess your own swing. This is where quality instructions come in. The main point of my post though is to share my main concern with on-line lessons to those who are considering evolvr or another on-line lesson source. Being about a 20 handicap, I FEEL that my swing varies greatly from good shots to bad shots. I was concerned that sending in a video of just a swing from down the line and one from face on would not be a representative sample of my swings. I ended up emailing Eric about it to which his response was "the swings those folks make are 99.4% the same. The only thing that changes is a teeny bit of timing stuff that has them hitting the ball fat or thin, or pulling AND slicing it, etc.". Eric response made sense and alleviated my concern. I then signed up for evolvr. The last point I want to make for potential on-line students is that there are lots of free software that you can use to easily trim out your swing video to select the one you want to upload – assuming you did a long recording of several swings. Most of those same free software will also allow you to easily combine two videos (one from face on and one from down the line) as one video to potentially make it easier for you to upload / archive. Even though I just started with evolvr and knowing what I know now along with my first lesson feedback, I really wished I had signed up much sooner. I would have enjoyed the game even more. Now I just need to go out there and practice. J Good luck to all.
