Thanks, I find with my follow through that it's easier to wing the club behind me If I hit a bad shot. :) I'm going to try lessons for the first time this year, so I hope to see some improvement from that. Up to this point I've just relied on forum advice and knowing that I had to keep changing things until my ball started a few yards right and curved a few yards left. I think I hit a million shots and thought, wrong, wrong, etc... Until I finally hit a shot I was happy with. :)

Well, it took some work but I got them. (same problem with embed links) Front view (better camera) Dtl And a quick driver dtl:

Well I like it (the term), might catch on. :) We'll have to get that face on view to see what is going on there.

Lol, I've never heard of whip-flip before. I'll try to get those soon, maybe tonight.

Yea, question about that, does it look like my backswing is short because I don't hinge my wrist much or because I just don't turn as much? I'm happy with my distances overall which are pretty standard, I use my 6 iron from 180-185. I'll try to get a face on but that's always difficult given the setup of the golf dome. Thanks for your comments.

I'm unable to get the embed links from my mobile browser, sorry. I'm hitting a 6 iron in this video. The second vid shows my miss, a big push with too little draw but I also sometimes hit way too much draw without enough push... The last swing in this vid is my 'desired' ball flight :) Some improvements over this: Thanks!

I found that the weather is going to be really nice in southeastern iowa tomorrow (60+ degrees) and I was wondering, whats the best way to find an open course? I know some courses just open when the weather is nice but It's a difficult thing to google, plus there isn't anyone at the course right now to answer phones. Does anyone know of any open courses near the iowa, illionois border that are open year round?

I'm in central Iowa, I wonder how far I would have to drive to play on Friday?

Sounds silly, It's not really how you are describing it. ORLANDO, Florida, Dec. 7, 2010 — Two years ago the life of 53-year-old professional golfer Mark Burk changed forever. The golfer who won tournaments all around the world and coached A-list celebrities found himself homeless and living in abandoned construction pipes in Palm Springs after a romantic relationship went awry.

I'm 27 and I have a pull cart but I plan to ditch it this year. It apparently makes me look like a dork according to the beer girls and I felt particularly lazy this year when I played in my company's league and the woman were carrying while I was pulling a cart.

how do "you" define high, low, mid handicap golfers?
Williamevanl replied to clearwaterms's topic in Golf Talk
I know, golfers in Iowa must suck... According to some of the guidelines in this thread I have never seen or played with a good golfer, ever! I play everyday, and I have golf membership but I have only seen two people shoot in the 70's ever! So I'd say: high handicap: 30-36 (btw I'm surprised that's the cutoff, judging from my mens league scores that number should go up to at least 50) we have plenty of guys that average around triple bogey or worse! mid handicap: 15-30 low handicap : 0 -15 And a good golfer is anyone that can break 90 on a regular basis. -
Hmm maybe an analogy: Imagine we want a car to idle along at ten miles an hour smoothly. Currently, the tires are flat and the car is going too slow. We can change the amount of gas the car gets and the air pressure in the tires. We would say the tires are 100% responsible for the car not being up to speed because fixing the tires alone will get the car at proper idle speed. You would argue that that doesn't make sense because the car isn't going fast enough because it's not getting enough gas.(ball can only slice if the face isn't closed enough) A car can only go that slow if it's not getting enough gas so how can the tires be 100% responsible? You would then increase the amount of gas the car gets creating a non desirable situation(bumpy ride but going 10mph) then you would fix the tires and following that you would re-adjust the gas. We of course would just fix the tires. Getting the car up to speed = eliminating slice Getting the car up to speed driving smoothly = desired ball flight I realize now that because you are only concerning yourself with eliminating the slice(initially) and we are trying to actually fix the ball flight we have this misunderstanding. You are correct though that if your only concern is eliminating the slice then yes, you could do it with face and face alone(without changing the path) You would of course create pulls, pull draws. When we say fix a slice we mean creating a desired ballflight.
-
Well the face alone can not make the ball go right either. Everyone understands what you mean when you say that a slice requires that the face be open to the path. By saying the path is 100% responsible we don't mean that that face isn't currently in some way responsible,(for the slice) it is, but it can remain relatively unchanged while the path is fixed resulting in a desirable ball flight. So we say that because it is all that needs changed it is 100% of the problem. So maybe in the example of the straight slice it would be clearer to say that the path is responsible for 100% of the problem.(instead of slice)

Lol, this guy is getting upset I think: Originally Posted By Slicer2SCratch: There are plenty of begining golfers that swing under plane...If you tought more and ran your 8 handicap mouth less you would see that...more often than not they push slice it if they even make devent contact at all.... I was having a discussion with someone and they said: if you take someone that is hitting an open face slice (push slice) and you have them swing more in to out it will cause them to miss even further right. Is there any truth to this? Also is it the case that people generally develop an ott swing because their clubface is open to begin with which in turn causes them to swing more and more left or do people generally just start with an ott swing? Thanks!

What Was Your Score on Your First Round? (Or Best Guess)
Williamevanl replied to halcon's topic in Golf Talk
I played with a highschool golfer that basically lived at my golf course and in one of his first tournaments (junior masters) he opened with a 56, I watched the leader board from work and called him and said I told you it would be more difficult with someone making you follow the rules. :) Here, Highschool kids that actually play on a golf team, not the first time playing. North Plainfield 228, Wardlaw-Hartridge 207 (High school Boys Golf scores and results) The Star Ledger, April 19, 2010 10:33 p.m. Wardlaw-Hartridge (3-1-1) 207: Brian Downing 49. David Pinkowski 49. Abbey Siegel 52. Catherine Bad 57. Joseph Choi 65. John Gilman 66. North Plainfield : Erich Fredericks 47. Sam Flood 50. Chris Nardi 64. Kyle Finnigan 67. Ryan Dunham 69. Frank Merrill 72. So yea a 56 your first time is really good and the guy that shot an 88 on his first 18. Well that's downright insane! :) -
What Was Your Score on Your First Round? (Or Best Guess)
Williamevanl replied to halcon's topic in Golf Talk
I've got a buddy that plays a lot of golf, been playing since he was like 10 (30) now and he shoots right around 120 pretty frequently. I make him take 3,5 off the tee though so that hurts him. :) 56 on 9 means you averaged around double bogey for each hole, that's better than good for your first time out. If I were to guess the average first score on 9 holes it would be 90-110. A number of kids trying out for the highschool team at my course shot in the 60s with one in the 80s on 9 holes and these kids actually play golf. We should do an experiment, we go out and take ten random people that have never touched a golf club and see what they shoot on a regulation course. :)
