2012 PGA Championship at Kiawah Island Ocean Course Thread
OCEANDJJACK replied to iacas's topic in Tour Talk
I agree that Rory's setup is the same as other PGA pros, but, his swing seems much more fluid, and hits the ball a ton for a smallish individual. There is a match coming up between Tiger and Rory, and exhibition match in Asia coming in October. This will be a good time to compare the swing's for both players. We can't know for sure, but I believe the clubhead focus for Cory leads his swing, much more so that Tiger's. Tiger seems to use a lot more energy, swings harder than Cory. It's just a question, and an observation. -

This is not what you guys are discussing, but, I would like to know this. Do you think RM's swing is similar to the typical pro swing? I personally think he is swinging the clubhead, and not using the standard approach. What do you think? -

What you should feel in the swing is the clubhead. It should be pulling your left arm and shoulder back and up. You need to know how to infuse energy into it by waggling, then giving a nice shove to get it started back. On the downswing, I feel the left arm pulling the right arm down and out towards the target. I try to use my entire body to maintain my balance. I let me feet and legs move along with the left arm pulling. The left arm leads in my swing going back and coming down. I feel that my center of gravity stays centered between my feet. I turn in response to my arm swing. My spine angle remains steady during the backswing up to and including impact with the ball. After that I feel myself turning, facing the target, standing tall. -

Madness? Madness? No, not madness. The folks on this site can't stand to hear another point of view without casting rude remarks in my direction. When I call a spade, a spade, they can't take it. If you act like a twelve year old, then what should I call you...a genius? -

Notice that Sam is way past parallel at the top of his backswing. Does that make him a poor golfer? Form is what it is. If the swing is a real swing, the body will follow, and execute correctly. If you try to connect the dots with a swing by mechanics video tape, you will be doomed to failure. The swinging of the clubhead caused the body to respond and attain all the golfing positions without trying to rehearse them. They just happen. Since you can't see yourself as you swing, all you can do is play by feel, and look at where the ball ends up. If you played everyday, you would get the chance to try different things. You must pay great attention to how you set up, how you started the swing, and how you ended up. Where did the ball go? If you do something right, get a great result, make sure you know why. If you don't agree with anything I have posted, please be specific and tell me what you think, and not call me names, or post stupid videos. So, you want to make fun! That makes you a twelve year old in my opinion. -

The definition of an Idiot is an individual with a twelve year old mentality. Surely my comments did not stretch the truth. Just read what these unkindly individuals have posted regarding my ideas. BTW, they are not my ideas. I have discovered how these ideas should be implemented. Ernest Jones did not go far enough or go into enough detail in his book. I have filled in the missing details. Don't say it is wrong, it is different. Don't judge without giving it a try. If you prejudge, then you are acting like a twelve year old! -

I can guarantee that no one has ever benefited by watching golf videos. What you see is not an indication of how it was actually created. What you are viewing in any golf sequence is not a bunch of positions that were rehearsed. That is not a swing. It is just a lot of pieces without a soul. The soul of the swing must be felt as one continuous motion, led by the clubhead, with the body following. Positions, angles, swing planes, and all the like is rubbish. The point is that the swing is created in the left hand, arm and shoulder. The rest of the body follows the clubhead. No one hear knows how to get the clubhead to lead the swing. Read my posts and become enlightened. -

You are missing the point. You cannot look at a video and know what that man is feeling. You don't know that his entire swing began with the swinging of the clubhead. He swings by feel, not by mechanics. You are trying to analyse from the outside looking in. Golf does not work that way. Many golfers like TexMex had odd swings. You could not know it by reviewing the video, what he was feeling in his hands and how the remainder of his body responded to his pulse on the clubhead. How do you think Sam got into that position at the top? By swing mechanics. No, absolutely not. He had the soul of the in his hands, and the body followed. You just don't get it. -

I don't need for others to say I am right, or wrong. I am right. You are confused. I don't need you to believe anything I say. I know what I know, and I am trying to share what I know to be true. You can easily test what I have put down in writing. Don't prejudge without taking a hard look and trying it out for yourself. There is no other way for you to judge the merits of what I have presented. You can't simply say I don't know what I am talking about. That make you an idiot. BTW, I predict that Tiger will not break Jack's major wins record. Why, because the methods he uses to swing will take it's toll on him physically. His swing is, in my opinion, dangerous to his physical well being. -

If I played more, and practiced more, I would be most likely a better ball striker than they. If they didn't practice, and played as little as I do, I would beat them hands down. -

I don't believe the pros have anything to offer, that can be used by the average golfer. If you are close to being a pro, then, follow the path that you think best. I believe that if golf was made ease, that would put lots of people who teach golf out of business. Golf is an industry. There is not good reason for them to teach an easier, more straight forward approach to the game. If I published what I am preaching, and you followed my instructions, there would be little reason for you to take lessons. Lets get real about this. Why should golf be considered the hardest game on the planet, when people were playing it for quite a long time successfully, before the golf industry was created? The great players of the past, many of them, started out as caddies. They learned to swing the club, without lessons. They found their way by swinging the clubhead. It was a weight at the end of a stick. They learned by trial and error. They learned how to swing the clubhead by keeping their head steady. The sequence they discovered was hands, arms, and shoulders. Swinging from the shoulder joints, they remained steady over the ball, swinging as if in a barrel, and reversed the sequence, hands, arms, and shoulders. This was the first golf swing. Later they began experimenting with the legs and hips. Each generation has tried to improve upon the first golf swing. My point is that the novice golfer can learn to play the game, in an easier and more straight forward manner, by reading and studying my posts. Fancy moves are not necessary to get the ball traveling long and straight. I have discovered this for myself. It is the way I play. It is not hard, and I believe I could teach anyone, with interest, how to swing with great results. -

I am the type of guy who as two left feet and two right hands. I am not athletic by any means. I am not kid, soon to be 65 in January. If I can play well, very well, consistently, without practice, and playing only 2 or 3 times a month, don't you think you should take more seriously what I have to say and share? My point is that the address position, start of my backswing, and downswing, is so easy to duplicate, with great results, why not give it a try. Maybe not if you are an accomplished golfer, but is you are struggling to break 100 or 90. I don't believe I must offer up any proof. The proof will be self evident, if you take the time to read my posts, and go out and try it for yourself. There are two broad approaches to the swing. There are the hitters, yourself and the others here, and the swingers, me. I swing the club, easily, gracefully, with amazing power and accuracy. The real swing is easy to master, the hit, on the other hand is much more difficult. The fact is, my posts explains how to swing the clubhead. This is not published in any golf book that I know of. Everyone here has made up their minds to dismiss my postings, without following the guidelines I have very accurately and descriptively presented. Print out my posts, all of them, and go to the range. Try to learn how to infuse life into the clubhead. Feel the pulling action of the clubhead on your left arm. I am sure you have never experienced this sensation. It is not published in any golf books or journals. It is the key to the pendulum swing model. Ernest Jones provides a pencil sketch overview in his book. I, on this post, elaborate how it is done, how to make it work for you. You are missing the boat of you don't pay attention and give this a try. Now I know that it feels like to deal with close minded individuals who want to belittle people who have a different perspective on the game. No, I don't agree with the current way golf is taught. No, I don't think golf should take years to learn. I don't care if you have a different opinion, but before you judge, please give it a try. What do you have to loose, maybe 20 strokes! -

I don't care to read the nonsense of the other posts. I stand by my comments. The game should be learned from the putting green, then to chipping, to iron play, and lastly the driver. I can play a round without my driver and will not suffer the worst for it, unless playing on a championship length course. You can drive 380, but if you miss the 3 footer, then what was the point. Case closed! -

There is more than one way to skin a cat. There are many golf methods which work, but take lots, and lots, and lots of practice to master. I am trying to tell anyone who will listen, golf is not that hard, if you step away from the nonsense they are marketing. If you have to practice, and practice until the cows come home, don't you think there might be an easier way? I have discovered for myself that there definitely is. You people refuse to pay attention and listen. If you follow my narrative, you might just discover what a real golf swing is. It will not require hours of practice. When you see how easy it is, you will agree with me, you have been duped. By duped I mean, you let your wallet get thinner and thinner, worked your butt off over a long period of time, and still don't feel totally confident that you can perform the next time you go out and play. You don't own your swing, I do! -

Again, let me repeat myself. My comments are from my own experience. The average golfer, who does not have the money for lessons, would do well by reading my postings. They will improve faster than yourself, without the need for excessive practice or expensive lessons. You will be taking lessons for the rest of your life. I don't need to take lessons. I don't need to practice. When you learn to swing the club, and I assure you that you don't, it will be like learning to ride a bicycle. Once you get it, you get it. I know that is hard for you to believe, but that has been my experience. Your believe in the modern approach must have cost you a few bucks, right? I read a few great books, understood their meaning, and now I can hold my own against any club player. You have chose to take the more difficult and expensive, and time consuming path. Believe me, golf is not that hard. You have been duped, in my opinion, into thinking you need to continue to take lessons and practice. If you learned how to really swing a club, all of the hard work would not have been necessary. I bet, if you lay off over the winter, and come back to play in the spring, your game will be god awful. I have no such problem. My swing is the same if I practice or not. It is a real golf swing. -

I don't care if you accept what I say. You can practice and play and think what you wish. If you are already a fairly good golfer, then you need not be on this site. Just go out and play. My comments are for open minded people who are looking to get better quickly. The traditional methods today can not promise you anything but years of lessons, and save you a few strokes here and there. I promise you, editorial you, the struggling golfer, another approach to the game, which has been all but tossed aside. My comments are for those interested, struggling golfers, that have not found what works for them Perhaps you have, I certainly have, and would not change a thing in my approach to the game. It appears that the current crop of younger players do not appear to have an open mind, or curiosity, to go out a try something else. I don't care if my posts do not gain any "traction" and that is not why I post. I post for open minded people who can't afford to see a pro for lessons. You may believe that trying to emulate the pros is a good thing. I could not disagree with you more. These guys practice until the cows come home. The average golfer needs a simpler approach. If you don't get it, well, too bad for you. I am happy you have the money, time and lots of pro lessons behind you. Most of us don't have that luxury. -
65/20/15 Practice Ratios: Where to Devote Your Practice Time
OCEANDJJACK replied to iacas's topic in Swing Thoughts
The full swing is easy. It is the teaching methods that are difficult to employ. If you stop using the current full swing models being marketed, you will perhaps open your eyes and look elsewhere for alternative swing models. Even the pros get confused by their own theories. It seems that every generation comes up with something different. During Hogan's time, his swing was very flat by today's standards. Nicklaus swing was much more upright. Do you remember the reverse "C" finish of Johnny Miller? You don't see that anymore. Do you remember Payne Stewart? His swing was very classical, not unlike the swing of Sam Snead. My point is, there is more than one way to teach or learn the full swing. Trying to copy by diagram, how the pros do it, will not help you. Once you learn an easier approach, you will definitely spend tons less time on your full swing. It is the easiest part of the game. Chipping and putting separate the winners from the losers. All the rest is the easy stuff. Driving is not that difficult if you don't try to hit the ball 380 yards every time. I use the same exact swing for my short irons, long irons, fairway woods, and driver. If you use a method that makes you hit down for the irons, sweep for the diver, and have different ball positions for each and every iron, then you will be more inconsistent, in my opinion. This is just making the game more difficult than it has to be, in my opinion. Using the legs very actively in the golf swing is a relatively new idea. During the playing days of Lord Byron Nelson, no one then considered using the legs for more power. Then there came the big muscle swing craze. How about firing the right side? Jimmy Ballard's brainchild. My point is that ideas come and go. Some are better than others. Some are much easier to employ than others. Did you ever read the Square to Square Method golf book? That was the book my father used to learn how to play. He hit his drives further, and straighter than any of his non-professional buddies. There is much to explore in the golfing literature. Open your mind, do your research, not just the current thinking. -

You people are missing the point. The average golfer will never be able to use the methods of the pros. The average scores for the average golfer have not improved for the past several decades. I don't care what the pros do. Neither should you. My comments are based on personal experience. What are your opinions based on? Watching golf of TV? What do you bring to the party? What wisdom can you share, that would make a difference to the struggling weekend golfer? You people are good at making stupid comments, and I fear, not much more. Grow up! -
Are you a digger, picker or a sweeper?
OCEANDJJACK replied to titaniummd's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Defend myself? No need. I enjoy every moment on the golf course, hit the ball long and straight. Whatever I put down in writing is my own personal experience, and the ideas which have helped me find a simpler and more consistent way to play. If you people are happy with your golf, the way it is, that is fine. You are in a place you want to be. My objective is only to make a contribution which can help others who are not happy with their swing or scores. Most of what is written in the literature is either wrong or not appropriate for the weekend golfer. That is my opinion. You may have a different one. I don't need to see a pro, practice endlessly, or hit hundreds of balls out on the range. Why? Because I swing the clubhead, in balance, without great effort, and with spectacular results. I am excited about understanding the real golf swing, the one that has been used for hundreds of years. Simplicity is the key to consistent golf. The mind needs to be given instructions it can understand, and not be in conflict with itself. If the pro tells you to do something, and you can't do it consistently, then a red flag should be raised. If you have to struggle and struggle, it is because the mind is in conflict. The pendulum model does not ask the mind to do anything it cannot understand or perform. Current golf models are trying to replace a swing model with a more mechanical approach, using positions, and breaking the swing into many little pieces. All I can say to the average weekend golfer is, good luck!
