  2. I might wait a little while, the U/4's and the U/3's may go down in price within the next few months, those golf balls aren't selling that well right now (at the DICKSPORTS store I go to). I asked the golf pro at the store how are Maxfli U series selling, she said "It's a pretty good ball, but we can't move em."
  3. I love what you said, it was poetry, but have you seen Charles Barkley's practice swing compared to his actual swing when he hits the ball... Woooh, its crazy and its all mental.
  4. They way the point system for the FedEx Cup is setup for the finals isn't fair, but the PGA wants high ratings. A mix of the controversy we are currently talking about, and any player within the top 5 being able to step up and take the money away from Rory pulls in viewers. I know I'm watching it each day! Rory can thank Vijay (2008) for how its all setup now. LOL
  5. I just switched to XFT wedges 50, 54, & 58; I love em. They feel heavier than the average wedge, which I like because the club head gets through the grass and dirt really well with less effort. But, I was told by a friend that I couldn't use my wedges in an upcoming tournament because the grooves are not post 2010 (v grooves); I'm using the XFT- "Z" grooves. Thank you Taylormade for saving me money; I can replace the face with a new regulation face insert instead of buying new wedges. I hope Taylormade brings the XFT back in some shape or form; it was a true innovation to a club that has not seen much innovation throughout the years.
  6. I initially started viewing and participating on this website 8/26/2012 because I needed help with the swing weight of a club that I cut down and I needed help fast before I went out to the course. And, after that I added comments to a few post without formally introducing myself (the shame). So…Officially I am new, My name is Kyle, I live in Florida, and I am in my late 30’s and I didn’t start Golfing until a few days after my 30 th birthday; I consider that starting late. I started playing golf because my friends started playing golf. I immediately found a love for hitting that little ball. At first I was unable to hit the ball straight, slice of course, but after a few years I straightened it up by working on that swing-plane. I have never taken an official lesson, although I should, but I am currently shooting in the mid to high 80’s. I am a golf techie; which I believe hurts my game and progress because I am constantly tweaking and changing my equipment. IT sucks because it is really expensive, but as of late I have become satisfied with what I am using: Taylormade R11s driver and 4 wood, Taylormade rescue 11 4 hybrid, Taylormade 2009 tour preferred irons 4-PW, Taylormade XFT wedges 50, 54, 58, and Odyssey #7 white ice putter I’m still going through a ball change right now; I was usuing the titleist NXT Tour, but now I am trying out the Maxfli U/3 & U/4x, Taylormade Penta, and Callaway Chrome. I’m a Taylormade guy, but not by choice, I am playing with what feels good plus I got fitted with the above named clubs. Getting fitted makes a big difference; prior to getting the Taylormade equipment I was had bought and used Callaway, Adams, and Nike clubs. My advice to anyone trying to get better at golf get fitted before buying new equipment, it will save you much $-Moolla-$. Anyways, I am happy to have found this website and I hope to gain much needed golf knowledge (yes, I am long winded).
  7. I tried out a few belly putters and I'm not a fan; It just doesn't feel good to me. Is it an advantage? Maybe a little, but I think the advantage is minuscule. As far as the USGA banning the belly putter, from the wording I keep hearing when I listen and read PGA tour news; it sounds more like they will let pros use the putter, but they will not be able to anchor it to their bodies (belly & chest). If you can't anchor the belly/long putter to your body then why use it. So, I think they will probably ban it without using the actual phrase "banning the belly/long putter".
  8. I’ve heard rumors and hear say, that due to the belly putter issue the USGA may create a few new rules for professionals that would not pertain to amateurs. Amateurs would be able to anchor a long putter or belly putter to the body, but pros would not be able to do the same. Pros would have to use a different method such as Matt Kuchar’s up the wrist grip or completely go back to a regular length putter. If the USGA was to do something like that I wish they would have made separate rules when it came to changing the grooves in wedges back in 2010. I believe the groove change was more for the pros, but hurt amateurs more when coming out of the thick grass. Anyways, what do you all think; should there be a separation in a few of the rules when it comes to the Amateur and the Professional?
  9. Maxfli U/3 Golf Ball Review I have not seen too many reviews on the new Maxfli Urethane golf balls so I thought I would add my two cents for the greater good. This is a tweener ball; it is not as good as a premium golf ball, but its way better than a bargain golf ball. I bought a 12 pack of the U/3 for about 25 dollars from Dicksporting Goods; which is not bad compared to the price of other (tweener) mid-range balls, NXT Tour, Hex Chrome, & Penta TP3, just to name a few. I have played two rounds with the U/3, and I have to say that I am pretty impressed with the performance of the ball. It’s no ProV1 or ProV1x, but that’s why Maxfli created the U/4 and U/4x. My average drive is about 250y, and that’s about what I was hitting with the U/3; the ball went straight most of the time, but when I needed a draw or fade the ball responded. Iron play was not bad either, no loss or gain of my average yardages. Where the U/3 excels is the short game; from 120y’s in to the green this ball performs. Due to price I seldom play a spin ball such as the Prov1, Pent TP5, or a Hex Black; I will usually play a NXT tour, HX bite, Top-flight V2, or a Q Star; which all offer” a little” spin. When I used my wedges I could make the U/3 check up hard on the green with one to two bounces, and when I really went at it I could make the ball spin back 10 to 15 inches. Due to the spin on the ball I was able to go at pin locations pretty hard. Again, the Maxfli U/3 performed really well, I was very impressed with the ball as far as short game spin. Now, it all comes down to comparisons when discussing Maxfli golf balls, the company seems to try and refresh their products and status in the industry about every 2 years (remember the Maxfli HT tour). I would COMPARE the Maxfli U/3 to the Taylormade TP Black LDP, but the U/3 feels just a little softer. For the price and the performance the U/3 can’t be beat; I am definitely going to buy another box soon. Last, the ball uses a urethane cover, it does not have the longevity of a NXT tour, one ball will last about one round before replacing the ball. I played two rounds and went through a sleeve of balls, one ball after each of my two 18 hole rounds, and 1 ball in the water after a terrible drive on hole eight.
  10. That's the key; I will use those measurements, thank you.
  11. I want to keep the R11s driver at the same swing weight D-4 after the shaft has been cut.
  12. I have a taylormade R11s driver with the stock aldila phenom shaft (stiff shaft). I hit the club the way i want some of the time, but consistent control and center face contact is more important to me than distance (averaging 260y to 270y). I want to cut the 45.75 inch shaft about an inch and a half to 44.25 inches for more control. I was advised cutting the shaft from the but end will not affect the shaft flex or kick point, but it will affect the swing weight which is currently at D-4. My question is for each half inch cut from the shaft how much weight do I need to add to the club head (lucky that R series taylormade drivers have external weights that can be increased or decreased)???
