  1. 1. Not too much sway or lower-body movement on back swing 2. Clearing hips through impact. Took a video lesson off a groupon and by far the biggest thing i learned was how much my lower body was moving in the wrong ways compared to pro swings. already seen a huge bump in consistency with my irons; still getting used to it with driver and partial wedges.
  2. Golf Pride VDR grips for my whole bag in midsize. Love them!
  3. Howdy! +3/4" 2deg Upright on irons Driver - 270 on flat ground no wind (which is really rare where I play) 3W - 245-255 3i - 230 4i - 215-220 5i - 200-205 6i - 185-190 7i - 170-175 8i - 155-160 9i - 140-145 W - 125-135 54 - 105-120 60 -
  4. We have a few, but my least favorites are the ones who complain about every single shot they hit. I swear one of them is already complaining about the outcome of his shot at the top of his back swing. The other is about a 30 handicapper that has advice for everyone he plays with on every one of their shots, "uhhh, you really need to roll your wrists on your driver more. that's always worked for me". Everyone looks at him like, "if it works for you why have you hit 2 of 14 fairways today?
  5. After trying a bunch of different ones I use Maui Jim's for everything...driving (a car), running, tennis, fishing, working out, golf, etc... I sweat a ton and they stay on without issues. Their customer service is incredible as well. This is my favorite pair after owning 3-4 different ones in the last decade: http://www.mauijim.com/ho-okipa-7032.html
  6. Isn't the FEC still in way too infant of a stage to even compare it to the majors? I may be remembering wrong, but I think they've changed the rules and the way the points work 3 times in 5 years trying to make it work. The biggest frustration was when Vijay won the first 2 events in 2008 and then didn't even have to play in the last 2 to win the FEC. Villegas ended up winning the last 2 which was at least equally as difficult of an accomplishment and wasn't even close to overtaking Vijay for the 10 mil...There's a chance it will mean a lot at some point, but until they perfect the system or at least find one that has longevity it won't mean close to as much. IMO
  7. Ditto on the other replies. Find a good PGA Teaching Pro near you and start lessons ASAP. Do at least a couple of months and if they are reasonably priced on it request that one of the lessons be on the course so they can help you with how to handle different situations and trouble. I find that I am a phenomenal range player in front of a pro and yet a course will quickly find and showcase my weaknesses. Because of that, my playing lessons with the local pro were invaluable when I was starting. I still try to play 9 with him at least every 3-4 months to keep me sharp. Not only do I learn stuff from his comments to me, but will also pick up on things that he does in certain situations and learn from his game as well. Definitely get Harvey Penick's Little Red Book and read it at least once (i've probably read it 5 times). There may be more wisdom in that book than any other sports-related book ever written.
  8. Agree with lumpuckeroo. I never could get below about a 15 handicap with true game improvement irons, and my best guess is that it was because i didn't get the feedback from bad contact and inconsistent swings that i get with mid-level to player's irons. I switched to Ping I5's and over about a 2 month (frustrating at first) period I dropped to about an 11 handicap, and then dropped to about 7.5 over a few months when I switched to Mizuno MP-32's a year later. Granted, a lot of it is confidence and head games, but the I-10's are a nice blend of forgiving while still providing the feedback to help you know when you don't make good contact and need to make adjustments. Switching to the mid to player's irons forced me to pay closer attention to the details of my swing which in turn made me a better golfer. Of course, all that assumes you can put in the time to work with them on the range. I recently re-gripped and switched back to my I5's because I wasn't playing enough to hit my MP-32's and 710 MB's consistently well.
  9. Fortunately not. Here in Houston the only 2 bad months for golf are july and august and even those are bearable before 10 and after 4. Golf in Sept-Dec is typically great.
  10. IT Manager for a small oil company in Houston. Unfortunately, IT Manager isn't one of the positions in an Oil Company that gets lots of rounds of golf for free on company time...
