  1. Am a 12 handicap, short game is more the problem. Natural ball flight with my driver up to some equipment changes a year of so ago was a high draw, assuming I hit it well. I'm playing better, but finding it harder to get that ball flight. Using a G30 driver with a regular flex, and usually either a Srixon Q Star or Callaway SuperSoft, occasionally one of the older NXTs, NXT Tour, or Bridgestone E6. So what degree is my current equipment limiting my ability to move the ball with the driver? As I understand it, the G30 is built for a straight flight, which it usually provides. Just feel like I can't "turn it over." The Q Star and the SuperSoft, again as I understand it, are balls designed for less spin and to go straight. I want to stay in the "game improvement" category with my driver, but are there drivers in that group that would make it easier to achieve a draw? Similarly, is my choice of balls having a negative impact on getting a slight draw? Friend suggested trying the R15 as the multiple placement options might make getting a draw but yet being able to control it easier than is possible with the build of the G30. And to answer the question you might be thinking, course I typically play has a pretty strong requirement for right to left ball flight off a number of the tees. Secondly, chose the balls I'm currently playing with because I like a soft feel on contact. The Titlest NXTs seem to be easier to work, but on the downside a little harder to control. Any thoughts will be sincerely appreciated.
  2. I did get an email about this prior to year end. My problem is the only places that will honor the rewards points in my area are horrid and ain't within 50 miles of me. I just use the site as a tee time service.
  3. Daughter graduated from college last spring. IRS instructions regarding qualifying as a dependent note that the child must have been in full time student status for part of five months of the year. I'm ok there, graduation wasn't until May 13. However, child must have lived with you for more than half of the year. My daughter moved into her own apartment (paid for by me) on July 1. That's six months with us, six months on her own. What's the call on that? Do I have to figure if there were more days in the first six months of the year (February will probably screw me), do I rationalize that she didn't move "out" until noon on July 1, thus getting the "more than half the year" by a matter of hours? Do I rationalize that she was in the process of moving for several days and thus wasn't technically out of the house prior to July 1? Other ways of looking at this?
  4. I've tried several drivers in the last year and keep coming back to my R7. Bought a second as a backup.
  5. How (other than I believe mutliple weight positions) does the SuperQuad differ from the R7 460? Forgive my ignorance. I was told a few months ago that if I liked the ball flight on my R7 there was no real need to consider the SuperQuad? Would appreciate your thoughts.
  6. Just one additional thought relative to your question, I love the look and feel of the X Forged. After hitting them for a couple of weeks, the X 20s look like shovels sitting there.
  7. I think there's another post on switching to forged from cavity backs that you might find helpful. As indicated in that post, I'm experimenting with the X Forged after using the X20 Tours. I like the no offset look of the X Forged, and may well end up with some sort of mixed set, 7 and up in the forged, 4 through 6 in the x 20s. You will hear folks say that a mid to high handicapper shouldn't be hitting the forged, but I don't think one size fits all in this area. If you find the cost of a complete set daunting, which is understandable, just order two or three of the more lofted forged to start with and see how you do. Far less devastating investment if you find it ain't gonna work out in the end...Just a thought.
  8. Taylor Made R7 460. Came back after trying several others to no avail. Definitely not a guru, but I firmly believe that if you have a major quality driver, at least 75 percent of the battle is finding the right shaft for you. Looks for me like it is the Pro Launch Graffalloy Blue stiff. Tried the stock Taylor Made and several Aldilas, as well as the Mizuno 560, ended up coming back. Straying was an expensive proposition.
  9. I purchased the 560 after a Mizuno demo day. Kept it a month and traded it back in. Wasn't any longer than my R7460, but the awful sound became more than I could stand. The range I use during the winter has tarps between the stalls, which held the sound. I would have guys (or ladies) from three or four stalls away coming over and asking what the heck I was hitting. That was what they were asking, what they meant was, "could you please quit making that ear piercing sound with that thing?"
  10. First time poster, and the topic is relevant for me. Been playing about four years, usually shoot mid to occasionally low 90s. Bought Callaway X-20 Tours last year and was well pleased. Just for grins, and because I find it hard to resist experimentation with clubs, I just bought 8iron through pitching wedge in Callaway X Forged. Same shaft and lie angle as my X-20s. Been experimenting with the X Forged for about ten days, and played my first round with them today. I agree with a previous post who referenced a better focus with the forged. With no offset, they just seem to line up so much cleaner for me. I seemed to have less left to right differential with the forged than the cavity backs. Biggest difference I noted today was if I didn't catch it clean I would lose more distance than I would with the X-20s. I've now ordered a seven iron, and will continue to experiment. As of now, I'm seriously contemplating switching to the forged. I also agree with another poster who said it seemed the switch had helped his swing. It may all be in my mind, but it is fun nonetheless.
