  2. After todays round, i think ive finally dulled down my horrific slice Hit 8/13 fairways, 3 were just off the fairway, 2 were sliced. Very pleased with that effort. And with the better FIR % i managed to hit more GIR which resulted in a 6 over 74 at my home course, a new best for me. Have purchased some TM R7 irons that are going to be here next week so i can only hope i will consistently hit sub 80 scores from here on in 2013 certainly shaping up to be a good year it seems.
  3. Played a casual 18 this afternoon, shooting 10 over 78. No birdies unfortunately (2 lipped out). FIR for me is on the up which is great to see. Short game is pretty well honed in so heres hoping my hcp can drop another couple of digits in the next 6 months.
  4. 60* Lob Wedge. Boy that club gets me out of trouble from anywhere on the course...
  5. Just shot a 78 (10 over) on a rather windy course which was great. Managed a few pars and a birdie on the back 9 with the wind to keep things in check. FIR was up around 50-60% which on a windy day is good for me. The goal of a single digit handicap certainly looks achievable.
  6. Would the weight transfer be something that could be affecting my slight slice off the drive? Also, distance wise I'm around the 230-240metre (250-260yards) range. But with a decent swing and strike I've driven 300 yards on a few occasions. That was going balls out with my swing and connected well which only happens about 5% of the time.
  7. I've been Playing Golf for: 5 years total. Just restarted after 3 years off. My current handicap index or average score is: 15 (pending) My typical ball flight is: High and fading slightly. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Wayward slice 40% when driving. Hey guys, was just out hitting a few balls into the net i just bought and decided to try a quick video of my swing. Its not the best quality but will endeavor to get something better ASAP. Was just hoping for a few quick pointers before uploading another video in another couple of weeks. **Please note the video is shot from about knee level so looks a tad funny. Driver front on Videos: Driver back end Cheers for any feedback and especially constructive criticism Matt
  8. Nice going mate. Getting a constant score under 100 and you will strive to do better. Keep up the good work and keep us updated. Always enjoy seeing the higher scoring players post that they're lowering their scores
  9. Just ducked out for a quick 9 holes after work. Decided to take onboard some tips ive read off these forums to help with driving accuracy and boy i wish i slowed my drive swing down a bit more often. Ending up hitting the ball only 10-15m shorter but far, far straighter. Even into a headwind which is a massive new logic to me haha. Ended up shooting 5 over par for 9 holes which is very efficient for me just getting back into the swing of things. Cant wait to knock out a full round tomorrow after work
  10. My basic function for the net is to obtain a decent technique for my drives. I'm not fussed about ball flight yet as I kinda know when I've hit a good one. I don't have a driving range anywhere nearby which sucks so this is my best bet. I'm hoping to upload a few vids on here for critique and hope to start hitting straighter/better when I get to the course to put it all into practice.
  11. At present, roughly 3 hours a week practice with 2+ rounds total during the week and/or weekend. Currently getting used to a new putter so im in constant putt putt mode, indoor and out lol.
  12. So for practicing it would be more beneficial to hit regular golf balls into a net (in the back yard) and just hope i dont shank/sky any into the neighbors? Would this outdoor net be fine for it? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=548070537 Im of course just worried about the very low % of shots that may just somehow miss the net and end up god knows where lol.
  13. 1. Rework my technique/swing. 2. Drive 50% FIR by May, then 80% by year end. (driving is a huge letdown at the moment) 3. Practice more often. 4. Make single digit handicap ( currently 14).
  14. In relation to net hitting, ive been scouring practice balls and come across the foam and plastic training balls. I couldnt manage searching through these posts for it, but am wondering if using these foam or plastic training balls into a net on the backyard will help with adjusting changes to my swing and/or ball impact technique?
  15. Sorry to drop in with unrelated input mate, but to upload a swing of ours do we need to be hitting a ball at a driving range? Or can a free swing on the back lawn be sufficient to scrutinise? Cheers
  16. Yeah distance doesnt seem to be a problem. Most par 4's is a wayward drive with an easy 7/8 iron approach from another fairway haha. Just went to the golf shop and tested the RBZ. He added in a TM Rossa putter for NZ$350 which i couldnt turn down lol. Went straight out after the purchase and hit 16 over par but the drives were much easier. Might have to tone it down 0.5 degree to a 9 as i still got a bit too much flight on some drives, but a drive with a slight fade and nice tail wind flew 310+ yards so i can work with it.

  19. Hey guys, newbie here to the forums, but from what i can see its a lively and very informative site. What im basically wanting to know is what part of equipment will be most beneficial to purchase to get the jump on my game and lower my handicap? I was an avid golfer during school til about 16-17yrs old, and at the time got down to about a 16 handicap. Since then i ventured to other sports and golf was on the backburner. Now im getting keen to take it back up and do it more seriously and put some actual money/time/effort into it. I currently just use a stock standard set of Wilson clubs bought a few years back now but have come to realise i need to splash out and upgrade but just dont know where to start. Bit of info - My putting and short game seems ok to me. Usually hit most greens in reg or just miss (recovery is a specialty it seems). This obviously means my driving accuracy is somewhat a mystery haha. I probably hit the fairway about 30% off tee shots. It's most likely my technique/grip which ive researched and am beginning to work on as a slice is my biggest headache. Will a decent driver assist with the fixing of this? I mentally think buying a driver is my first priority just because of this. Cheers for any responses. Matt
