  1. Two moves I like on the downswing while maintaining the same spine angle as at address: 1) Turn hips to the left. 2) Come into impact with hands low.
  2. Tiger Woods like Greg Norman before him, and Tom Watson before him, and Johnny Miller, and Jack Nicklaus, and Sam Snead... These are the some of the main players who have made golf popular over the decades. So every pro owes part of his paycheck to Tiger in a way because he has caused evrybody's paycheck in golf to grow not just his own. I watch the San Francisco Giants yet I haven't played ball since Babe Ruth League in the sixties. All golf fans aren't necessarily players even though many are. And again it's more often not the Tiger Woods' of this world that attracts those fans just like the Yankees have attracted a lot of people to baseball just because they won so much. Your saying that pros like yourself only care that there are spectators and could care less WHY they happen to be is really good for golf in general. Years ago there were fewer golf courses so the game was a lot more expensive to play than it is today. The more popular golf gets the cheaper it gets to play. I mean fot the regular working man. Which brings us back to Tiger because he has been the one pro in the past 17 years who's done the most to popularize the game. And this in turn has made the game a lot more affordable for people like me. So, thank you Tiger Woods!
  3. Let me add that at 5' 4" and 135 lbs I need to use my hands in order to get the clubhead moving. It was suggested to me that being of slight stature it would benefit me to cock my wrists early in my backswing. After a a year or two of practicing and trying to wrap my head around this idea the work is finally paying off. I finally understand this idea of the sequence of movement in the Five Lessons.
  4. I tried to 'manufacture' lag for years but without success. Recently I have followed the advice of taking the club back with my left arm only while at the same time setting my wrists in a cocked position early in the backswing. It has improved everything. Finally I hit the ball farther with my irons with a better ball fight and more control. In the backswing I now have time to think about putting my right elbow into my side on the downswing whereas before everything was rushed and off balance trying to 'create' this lag thing.
  5. There is something wrong with Chamblee... I understand he's disappointed that Woods has had some problems. And I think the fact there was a scandal involving Tiger and his family life has really affected Chamblee's judgment. I may be wrong but he seems to be looking for a problem with Tiger ever since that sordid affair. In a country where stars are built only to be torn down Tiger has been a target. Everybody is so disappointed Woods is a human beeing and not that Disney character the media used to sell golf. On another note I really don't think Chamblee is a racist so that can be ruled out as a reason for his non stop criticism of Tiger Woods. No I really believe this obsession Brandel has with pointing out what Tiger needs fixing is a reflection of how Chamblee feels about his own inadequacies, as Freudian as that may sound. Because it really makes no sense to be constantly pointing out Woods' problems when if we were to stop and realize it he's talking about the second or third greatest player to have ever played the game of golf. I don't think Chamblee's mean spirited but I think he should give Johnny Miller a call and learn a thing or two about what to say, what not to say, how to say it, and how not to say it.
  6. I think Chamblee has a problem with himself that he projects onto Tiger Woods. The problem Chamblee has is he only has one win on the PGA tour and his best show in a major was 18th at the Masters back in 1989 or something. Either that or it might have something to do with his upbringing if you know what I mean.
  7. "Miller's the only golf commentator I can stomach." These aren't my words they're Ben Hogan's
  8. I don't understand. Are you saying Johnny Miller doesn't know how to hit a cut? I didn't hear him make the comment you said he made regarding that particular shot by Tiger. Not trying to defend Miller I would guess he was describing an unwanted effect on the part of Tiger who mistakingly opened the face of his club at impact. I think you'll agree it's a mistake that can happen for any number of reasons. I mean, all I'm saying is there can be no doubt about the fact Johnny Miller knows how to hit cuts and hooks, or any kind of golf shot, don't you think? Or maybe it was his wording you objected to...
  9. How do YOU hit a cut?
  10. Have I insulted you? Feherty was compared to Johnny Miller. I responded saying Feherty wasn't in the same class as an expert on the game as Miller is. I later added some stuff about Feherty's character because frankly some of his statements away from golf insulted me. I only meant to point out Johnny Miller never allowed himself to be that kind of a jerk even though some people take exception to his conclusions pertaining to the game of golf and some of the pros playing it. What's more Feherty never apologised for his un-patriotic statements.
  11. Sometimes the truth hurts...
  12. In the commentating department David Feherty was compared to Johnny Miller. I objected saying Feherty was generally speaking a 'B' player on the Euro Tour. You said no 'B' players went to the Ryder Cup. I said they did, using Boo as an example. Bottom line, Johnny Miller knows what he's talking about. And actually I do like Feherty's comments. I think he knows the game. I also really like Gary Koch. And I think Judy Rankin is one of the best. But back to business, I love to learn things about the golf swing and golf game strategy. I think nobody in the commentating business does more than Johnny Miller in the way he studies the course where the tournament is being played right down to all the breaks on all the greens. No one is more informative. At the other end of the spectrum from Johnny Miller are the British commentators who sound like they're commentating a dog race. And it's a real long dog race with a lot of dead air. There is an American who does comment from time to time on those Euro tournaments on the golf channel and I thank God he's there when he is because otherwise it's like wtching grass grow a lot of the time.
  13. Boo has played some good golf although not of late. He is a PGA Tour pro in the top 125 or so but HE'S NO JOHNNY MILLER.
  14. We've all been through a lot...
  15. No 'B' players at the Ryder Cup... Then what was Boo Weekley doing there a couple o' years ago?
