I currently have the Diablo Edge Iron Set 5-PW but I want to trade out my 5i for a Diablo Edge 5h. The problem is that it is hard to find the Men's Diablo Edge 5h but very easy to find the women's 5h in the same set. Would it be possible for me to use a Women's 5h club head and reshaft it and regrip it to go along with my current set? Or will the lie and loft angles be off? I really want to keep my set consistent. Thoughts? PS - Oddly enough the 4h and 6h are easy to find but not the 5h (ie eBay and other resources). I already have the 4h in place of the 4i.

Walter Hagen XLR Set Specs Received from Dick's
Thorangutan replied to Thorangutan's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
This is the set I bought my father for Christmas (who has played for years but is getting more serious with the game now) and I contacted Dick's for some information on them because I couldn't find anything anywhere. After about 2 weeks of back and forth they finally got back to me. I was very surprised at how strong they were and shocked that the SW is 50* (they should label it a GW). I hope this helps any beginner players who have this set and like to have knowledge about their equipment (even if it is the most basic of basic). -
I was at Dick's today and I saw a 3W Nickent 7DX and I think I liked it. The club had a nice shaft and a shallow face which would in my eyes, promote a higher shot and easier off the rug. Any opinions on this club. I'm looking for a new 3W.

I just got the Diablo Edge Irons 4 - AW this January but I haven't hit them on anything except a simulator. They are a bit on the bulky side but it didn't bother me on the simulator hitting them. I haven't heard anything bad about them and I'm pumped to get them onto a real course as soon as the snow melts. As of right now. I would highly recommend.

I called Dick's and they said they will email me back in 1 to 2 days and try to contact someone about the lofts on the clubs. I know that they are a beginner set but my Dad is a beginner and I would be interested in knowing some info on the clubs. If anyone has any information on the loft angles I would be interested in having that information. I don't want to pay to have them measured or buy a measuring tool.

Which clubs should I get? I'm a beginner.

Sounds like you've got a good game plan. Glad to see you picked up the XLR set. You won't be disappointed. They were a great starter set for myself and my father and until you feel like you're ready to move on to something better they are a great price for the meantime. Goodluck and have fun! I also recommend checking out an online website called TheDanPlan. Very interesting and inspiring. -
I haven't tried to chip with a hybrid but I definitely will be playing around with that shot in practice once the snow finally melts.

I would heavily recommend the Walter Hagen XLR set. You get everything you need and it is a very good beginner's set. It comes with... Driver (10.5*) 3W 3 Hybrid 4 Hybrid 5 Iron 6 Iron 7 Iron 8 Iron 9 Iron PW SW Mallet Putter Bag Head covers for the Driver, 3W, 3H, and 4H. They are cavity back and can be bought in steel and graphite shaft. Best part.... they sell for $199. Affordable! I had the Walter Hagen MS2 set which precedes the new XLR set. The sets are almost identical. I got back into golf about 2 years ago and beat my set to death and it held up and performed well the entire time. I got my 51 year old Father back into golf and he now has the XLR set and I have gotten new irons in that time period but my MS2s don't owe me anything. Walter Hagen XLR set is highly recommend by me. -
http://www.golfchannel.com/media/golf-channel-academy-tom-lehman-021913-short-game-3-wood/ That kind of shot. It's the ability to be able to take a good putting stroke with a 3W rather than that scary long putting stroke. For me personally, the shorter the stroke the more control I have and less chance for something to go wrong.
-
The 3W allows more distance to be carried with am easier swing. I can't hit my putter with any good feel through the fairway and onto the green. The 3W opens this option up. I'm glad to see that there are others that use this shot.

@stogiesnbogies thank you so much. That's better solidified my belief that a Niblick or several Niblicks would do nothing but benefit me and are useful for Chips, Pitchs, Approaches, mad Recovery. Glad to see the 56* performed well in the sand. I wonder if Dick's carries them. I know there is a Golf Galaxy and a PGA Superstore in Paramaus NJ. I may be taking a trip there or to an online vendor or auction site. Thanks again for the help.

I have done this several times when I have to carry the ball through fairway and then green. I don't use a chipping stroke, I use a putting stroke. It has proven incredibly handy and I was wondering how many people use this method and how often. Is it affective for you? I don't see many people use this shot but I love to pull it out now and then when I feel like a chip or pitch would be less successful.

How well does the 56* Niblick play out of the sand. Is it possible to open up the face on it like a SW? Seems that with the design it wouldn't be playable that way.

Cleveland Niblick Option for my Bag.
Thorangutan replied to Thorangutan's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Okay great. Thanks for the help. I will definitely be joining that group. -
My iron set is a Callaway Diablo Edge Steel Shaft Set. My PW is part of the Callaway set and the GW is a Clevelamd CG16 and the SW is a Walter Hagen MS2. They are all the same length. I'm going to hit them on a simulator tomorrow.

Cleveland Niblick Option for my Bag.
Thorangutan replied to Thorangutan's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
@meenman Thank you for the input. I agree when you say most only see it as a "chipper". From what I read it looks versatile. I haven't had a chance to hit my 4i because its new but either way one of the 4s can go. With the 37* Niblick, would that hit more like an 8i than a 9i? I am seriously considering this club. And does it hit a normal trajectory or lower than an 8i or 9i? -
I've been looking through some old threads and reading up on the Cleveland Niblick and from what I can tell it is a very polarizing idea and club. Either someone totally agreed that it was a must, or someone strongly suggested that its a waste of a club in the bag and can be replaced with a good wedge. I have in my bag: Driver - Walter Hagen MS2 (10.5*) 3W - Walter Hagen MS2 (15*) 5W - Wilson Staff Fybrid (18*) 4H - Walter Hagen MS2 Hybrid (21*) Irons - Callaway Diablo Edge-R Steel Shafts: 4 (22*) 5 (25*) 6 (28*) 7 (32*) 8 (36*) 9 (40*) PW (44*) GW - Cleveland CG16 (50*)10 Bounce SW - Walter Hagen MS2 (56*) Putter - Titleist Dead Center Bladed I can easily take out my 4H and put in a 42* Niblick. That way I still have my wedges but I have something more reliable around the greens and on the fringe.

Yeah I thought that may be the case. My MS2 PW was probably a 48* and I hit that 115 yards and I hit my 56* SW 75 yards. My MS2 9i was close to a 44* or 45* and I hit that 125 yards so I assume I'll hit my new Callaway 9i 44* a similar distance and my 50* GW will hit around 105 most likely. I guess it will really come down to hitting all the clubs on the course and seeing if the distance gap is too large. The real issue here is that with my strong irons my 9 is really an 8, my PW is a 9, so a 48 would act as my PW, a 52 a GW, and my 56 my SW. That is my major dilemma with only having the 44/50/56 and not the 44/48/52/56 set-up. With my old irons I didn't have a GW so I had a tough time in the 100 to 90 yard range and it always irked me. A choked up PW felt like the ball flight was too low for me.

I played golf as a young kid but I only recently got serious with the game about 2 years ago. At that time I bought the Walter Hagen MS2 Set. I started out averaging a 120 and now I'm averaging a 100 to 102. I am currently 24 years old now. I recently went out and bought a Steel Shaft Callaway Diablo Edge Iron Set 4-PW to help move myself forward in my game. Lofts: 4 - 22* 5 - 25* 6 - 28* 7 - 32* 8 - 36* 9 - 40* PW - 44* So my PW is a 44*, my current GW is a 50* Cleveland CG16, SW is a 56* Walter Hagen MS2. Now I can open up my SW and play a variation of different shots with it fairly well. Instead of doing the current 44/50/56 wedge set-up I'm thinking of buying a 48* and a 52* wedge so that my set-up is a 44/48/52/56 instead. I also carry a Driver, 3W, 5W Wilson Staff 18* Fybrid Graphite Shaft, Putter, Irons, and a 4 Hybrid but I can easily ditch the 4 Hybrid. What does everyone think about how I should set-up my wedges? My irons are extremely strong. I personally think I would benefit from the 44/48/52/56 set-up and I'm leaning toward that.
