Looking for a ball that can be compressed with a 90 mph ss but gets good spin around the green and off low irons. I'm almost out of the vapor speed balls and want to try something different and see if it makes a difference. Also I know I'm a hacker but I don't lose alot of balls per round, maybe 1 or 2 max. Any thoughts?

Reason for Hogan's foot setup?
ASUslacker replied to ASUslacker's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Interesting so even the great Hogan was stealing ideas =). I thought it was interesting because most people say Hogan's swing was anti-hook and that driver set-up was definitely a draw set-up. I like reading golf books so i'll have to give Johnny's a look. -
Just read Hogan's five lessons and the most interesting thing was his setup. I can see why having the ball in the same spot (just off his left heel) but why change the right foot so much with each club. Wedge right foot is in front of left, middel iron both are the same and with a driver right foot is well behind (from DTL view) Anyone know why this works or maybe doesnt work? Anyone actually use this?

Thanks for tips and drill mike. But I have a few questions. What makes my impact position bad? Is my weight not forward enough, or any body part (hips, hands, shoulders) not in the right spot? I try to think (maybe too) technically about things and would like some feedback on positioning of things. I'll definitley try out your drill and see how it works. Man only one post for help, I thought all the swing gurus would love to tear apart my high handicap swing. Any other thoughts?

Fixed. Sorry first time using youtube.

I know it's bad, but how do i fix it? My misses are slice, pull (driver) or fat (with irons). Any help is appreciated. P.S. when I say Good in the video it means Good for me =)

I've been doing good under 30 feet but anything past screws me up. I feel weird swinging a putter that hard and it usually end ups bad, but chipping with the hybrid from the rough has been kinda easy so why not on the green. Anybody try this? Any tips? Gunna practice tonight after it cools down to only 100 degrees. I know I am gunna get some funny looks on the course but if it works .

Can someone recommened a cheap, but quality putter
ASUslacker replied to No1CeltsFan's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Go to a golf store and just hit a bunch of different types. Mallets, mid-mallets, blades, 2-ball, center and back shafted, milled, inserts . . . You get the idea. Dont worry about brand but what 'looks' and feels good. Once you find a type when worry about brand. -
Best ball for 77-81 mph swing
ASUslacker replied to erock9174's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I don't swing much faster then you and I love the Nike Karma (old version). It is by far the softest feeling ball I have ever hit. Haven't hit the new version but the old ones are dirt cheap. http://www.lostgolfballs.com/Nike-Ka...category_id/96 P.S. just saw this if you wanna try out different balls. Pretty good idea from Lostgolfballs.com http://www.lostgolfballs.com/Premium...category_id/78 -
Lately I have been having trouble hitting the ball fat. I am trying to rotate my shoulders faster but i think this is leaving my arms behind so at impact the right shoulder is way lower then my left. Is this correct or should they be more parallel?

Here are a couple of videos of my practice swings with a 6-iron. Going to the range this weekend so I'll post more vids with a ball later. Just wondering if anyone can give me a few tips to help me groove a SnT swing. Buying the book next pay check, and just trying to get a head start.

Is this a serious thread? Sorry I didn't read through all 12 pages of discussion, but to me anyone who puts a ton of self worth in any number (handicap, paycheck, SAT score . . .) is a complete loser. Yea I would be a little happier being a 2 instead of a 20 but that doesn't make me or anyone a loser. The only thing that matters is how to treat people and how you raise your kids, everything else is superfluous.

Cheap replacement for Nike Vapors?
ASUslacker replied to ASUslacker's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Thanks for the replies. Tried the Pearl and it is pretty close to what the Vapor felt like. I will definitely try the Srixon soft feel next time I'm out playing. Thanks for the heads up on the Laddie X. Those things are dirtball cheap online so I'll order some next paycheck. -
Alright updating old ass thread. Been practicing 10-15 min everyday (on carpet but better then nothing) and have changed to a left hand below right hand grip (right handed) and have seen some improvment. I feel the left hand pulling through the ball instead of my right hand trying to hit the ball. Played a par 3 course and finished with 35 putts and even a 18 foot birdie putt . So there is still hope for me, which means there is hope for everybody.

Cheap replacement for Nike Vapors?
ASUslacker replied to ASUslacker's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Thanks for the website info, but I thought that the Vapor has a compression of 70 just like the pearl. http://www.lostgolfballs.com/Nike-On.../category_id/1 click the specs tab And I know its a women's ball but I can find them pretty cheap online. Plus I have pink zero friction tees. Why? They were on sale, a pack of 36 for 2 bucks. Frugalness > manlyness -
Thread says it all. Love the Vapors but kinda pricey, so I need something that I can find on sale, used or recycled. Bought some used noodles based on some threads I have read, and those felt like rocks comparatively. Based on specs it seems like the Callaway Pearl is close so I'm going to buy a sleeve, but just checking to see if you guys have any other ideas.

Never thought of this, but you do make a good point. But one of my goals is to be able to two putt from any distance on the green so that is why i always look at trying to average 36 putts a round. Alright I have been practicing about every other day with some drills someone sent me on the forum and I have a 3:15 Tee time tomorrow, so I'll post what happens.

PM sent. I need all the help I can get. I have completely gutted my old style and made it as simple a stroke as possible. But does anyone know (or know a good website) that shows a basic set-up for a stance and also what type putters fit different types of putting techniques. The only thing I have found talks about being a right arm or left arm dominant putter. It says I should keep my eyes right above the target line and use a center shafted putter. Anyone got any other ideas? P.S. plus seeing low cappers putting (close) to me does make me feel better.

So in three years my handicap (according to yahoo.com) has started at about 50 (no joke ) to about 20.3. Now I figured to get down to single digits (new goal) I should keep stats on my game to figure out what I need to work on. Well the last 5 rounds have been a huge eye opener. I knew my putting was holding me back but holy crap. I average about 38 putts a round And the other day I shot a 90 on a pretty easy par 70. I hit 8 fairways and had 9 GIR but I had 44 putts!! I would put a puke face next to that 44 but its not an option. So is that as bad as I think or can anyone step up and say they are a worse putter then me. Sorry if I don't check this forum for a while as I will be on a practice green every chance I get. lol

Any suggestions for a lesson in Az?
ASUslacker replied to ASUslacker's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I am in Surprise out on Bell and just west of the 303, so those guys are kinda far. Thanks for the suggestions though. -
Topic says it all, just wondering if anyone had a specific person or place that they used/know out in Arizona for lessons. I just want to start out with one lesson just to go build a solid foundation. Plus my max price would be around 80 bucks for an hour. If I liked the guy/place then I would just keep going back when I get the cash. I am already thinking of going to the Valleygolfcenter close to my house if I can't find anything better. Thanx to any replies in advance.

Finally shot in the 80's (87,83 best round evar. . . . ) in back to back rounds. Yahoo says my handi is 20.7

What to do with ball sitting on top of thick rough?
ASUslacker replied to ASUslacker's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Could you be a little more specific, like with the stance and ball position. Sorry I always adjust everything based on the situation (stance, ball position, grip) and then swing normal. Like for a long shot, you said to "sweep" the ball. So do I treat it like a driver? Wide stance, ball near my front heel, hitting on the up swing of the arc. This seems weird since that means the head of the club will go through alot of rough before you make contact. For shorter shots you say to hit the ball first. So do I put the ball back in my stance and take a really steep angle? If you could answer these questions I would really appricate it. -
So I am getting to the point where I understand how to adjust my feet and ball position with different situations. (ball above/below feet, in think rough, in the sand, etc.) But my biggest problem is when the ball is in the rough but sitting on top of the grass above the ground about 1-2 inches. I've tried a few things with limited success, but what is the proper way to approach this shot?

Do you have to have a 1 or 2 plane swing?
ASUslacker replied to ASUslacker's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Maybe I should rephrase the question. In the book he states that certain things (like grip, posture, width of stance, spine angle) will either help or hinder if you are a 1 or 2 plane swinger. Take for example if you have a 1 plane swing but a narrow stance (I think this is a part of my swing), this will cause problems. But for me it is the oppisite. Just wondering if that is normal. Like anyone have a super strong grip but uses a two plane setup?
