  1. I have mixed emotions about this, and never really thought too much about it before reading this. You make a very valid point. Luck is part of game. You have to weigh the outcome along with your intentions. Sometimes we hit our intended shots and they don't work out as well as we thought, so I'll take any lucky break I get. But it's hard to say that a shot like that wasn't a good shot.
  2. The putting part doesn't actually seem odd though. I could see a right eye dominate person being able to line up putts better from the left side. As a right handed batter in baseball, It's always seemed odd that I see the ball better when I switch to the left side...the only handicap being my awful left handed swing! But putting is a much more simplistic motion. A solid putting stroke from the opposite side could actually be achieved with a little practice. Think I might try it!
  3. My little brother is left handed. He accidentally left his putter at home before a round last year and had to use my RH putter. His lines and distance control was much better putting right handed. So, he went and got a RH putter and has been playing that way ever since.
  4. 38, 37, 75. Played a new course that was pretty wide open. Conditions were fair. I was smashing the driver and had tons of wedge shots. Missed a few birdie putts but nothing within 12 feet. Pretty good day though.
  5. I went through the digging stage as well. For me, it was my backswing. If I picked my club head up too soon in my backswing, I would start my downswing super steep. I started working on the "low and slow" backswing. It helped flatten out my downswing.
  6. Definitely a slice. I was doing the same thing. The ball is actually going straight off the club face, but with side spin. When the ball slows down, it starts turning right. Fortunately this is not the slice that is the hardest to fix. Your club is more than likely square at impact, which is good, but your club head is moving outside-in through impact. FIX- change your swing path to inside-out.
  7. A buddy, during a scramble, hit driver off the deck from 210 yards out within 5 feet of the hole. Impressive part was we were on about a 40 degree uphill slope hitting to an elevated green over the hill we couldn't see. We thought he was joking when he pulled out a driver and called the giant fade a "signature" shot.
  8. I hit a 3 hybrid with a little draw and couldn't keep it on the short side of the green. I was a bit closer actually, but wasn't putting. I range everything I can, and have a skycaddie I use as backup. My distances are very close.
  9. It was the 2nd shot on a par 5, that putt was for eagle....we didn't make it. I'm wondering how many greens you hit from 217 out?
  10. Nope, Lazer rangefinder, flat, calm. Measured it back to the flag after the shot. It was legitt, I was I the same boat y'all are, didnt want to believe it...then he did it again. I dirst time i saw him drive a ball, I wanted to call BS. believe me or not, that's not going to stop him from doing it.
  11. I know his 5i and my 3 hybrid were right together. We were playing in a scramble tourney a few months back, we had 217 to the hole and he dropped it on the back of the green, straight over the flag, and left us a 35 foot putt. Do the math, the guy can smash....he just can't putt. :) The only PGA tour average that means anything is score.
  12. I'm not real sure what all his precise club distances are. But you couldn't hold his FJs with that little 4 iron. For someone of your stature, you sure are a weak one. Now go crazy with that knowing I could care less what you think. And my guess is...you're an idiot, and insecure.
  13. I just said big, strong, and flexible...he came back with exact #s and all freakin state QB (like that means anything). Ego check....I'm just under 6 foot and average 273 yards off the tee, so I have no means to flex my pecks and argue with someone about club distances. I saw this guy hit that distance regularly. It's something you see and say "no one is going to believe this". But being able to hit it that far has caused him problems on the short end. That was the only point I was making.
  14. So now it's impossible cause you can't do it? You seem to have a complex. Telling me about your physical attributes and high school accomplishments to argue your point of why someone else can't do something....you are that guy. I have no reason to lie about this. But I'll see if I can get some video this weekend.
  15. I guess you have to go Army SF. :) I started playing a few years ago after I got home from a deployment. He was fresh from Q school and got his Special Forces tab. We both played baseball together in college. he picked golf up quick, posting a 17 hcap his first year of playing. (struggles with the short game)He is a big guy, and strong as hell. Abnormally flexible for his size, and his swing speed is amazing! I wouldn't believe it either if I didn't play with him. Yeah, he can hit a 8 iron about 200....again, I wouldn't believe it either if I didn't see it. Actually made me consider going SF! Ha And I think he is going to be in town on leave this weekend, so I'll see if I can get some video for you.
  16. It's all about controlling the body and muscle memory. The pros learn this through repetition. They can swing 95%, while keeping their head still and maintaining proper mechanics, so it only looks like a 70% swing....just faster!
  17. Yeah, I agree. I play with a guy who hits his 60* 125 yards. That's a huge gap! He tried a 64* but those are just too hard to hit.
  18. This is where we fail to realize, every time we swing the club, it's a stroke. So, each swing is equally important. A great drive followed by, in your opinion, an unimportant duffed approach shot, is useless!
  19. This is tricky. I had the same problem. Thought it was my swing but that is a littke harder to change than equipment. I played around with some different driver/shaft combos at a local golf shop. I finally found one that gave me what I was looking for. An 8.5 degree with a grafalloy blue shaft with a low kick point. A higher degree loft gave me too much spin. I was able to increase the launch angle and keep the spin rate down. Added 20-30 yards on my drives and still kept a little rollout. You have to find what works for you.
  20. The obsession with driver distances is pure testosterone. The ones who understand the game walk onto the tee box, picking a spot for a good play and use a consistent, repeatable swing. Most amateurs reach for the driver and turn into a chest beating alpha male. Then you got joe schmo, who practices 3 times a week and plays 8-10 rounds a month, that can't stand the fact that he can't hit it as far as Jim Bob, who only plays a handful of times a year. But the GPS thing is a really good idea....but anyone who would lie about their driver distances could cheat the system. Personally, I would rather not know. Being subconscious about short driver distances is an unnecessary mental block. If the ball is in play and you hit it longer than your 3 wood, you are doing good!
  21. Swinging a driver can be maintained by most amateur golfers that only play a handful of times a year. So most amateurs can shake the rust off of the driver and find a few fairways during a round. But the 50 yard wedge shot will give them the most fits! Just because a guy hits it a long way, doesn't mean he is swinging out of his shoes and has a terrible smash factor. One of my good friends who plays maybe 10 times a year will out drive me on every hole, hitting it 310+, usually in or close to the fairway. He does it effortlessly. He is a monster...tall, strong and athletic. Just because my score is better than his, am I not suppose to accept that he hits the driver further than me? Honestly, when I just started playing golf, my driver was my golden club. I was hitting it longer than I do now for sure. Now most of my practice time has been put into the short game and my scores definitely benefited. Driver off the tee box is only a fraction of the game!
  22. Hahahaha, I like the simple reply. I'll second that. Only because there is a difference between the long ball guy that has horrible everything else, and the guy that is good but could use an extra 20 on his drives to hit more GIRs. For someone that can keep the ball in play, length is definitely a factor! If I found a way to consistently get 25 extra on my 275 yard drive...that would be the difference of hitting a short iron, and a wedge on a lot of par 4s. Which increases the percentage of knocking one close to the hole. So, a lot of Mid/low handicappers could benefit from extra distance. But a 20+, the flaw goes beyond what a few extra yards would help.
  23. Good call! I think we just came up with a dirty combo for hitting monster drives! Before your next range session....enjoy a tasty lumberjack bacon cheeseburger and wash it down with miller lite and a shot of jack. There is just so much manliness in that, no way you will hit a drive under 300!
  24. Diet is a very important variable for hitting bombs with the driver. I rely on a consistent supply of miller lite and bacon. It does the trick!
