  1. Football: Ajax. You probably wouldn't know them but they produced Johan Cruijf. NBA: have to say OKC or San Antonio. OKC for their explosive power San Antonio because their ball movement is ridiculous.
  2. Yeah well I usually just go out and kill those pesky good for nothing fluffy disease carriers. It's how we roll in the Netherlands. All kidding aside I love animals and would never hurt one that's cute (excluding lamb btw) but if I saw this scene in a movie I'd laughed out loud.
  3. Well, its definitely higher on my most embarrassing moments list then missing a one foot put.
  4. Not my most embarrassing moment but it would be a shame not to write it down. Me and my friends booked a round of golf in Portugal for around 8.30 but the receptionist couldn't find the booking so she puts us in between two flights. So we were in a bit of a hurry at least it felt that way and when we were teeing off on the first hole the group that was behind us was already waiting. It was a large group of locals. My first friend took a shot and it went good. I made a decent one but the last one of our group really hooked it hard and was feeling pretty bad about it. We had two buggies and the guy with the hooked shot was alone in one of them. As we drove towards our balls we saw a nice happy group of ducks with young ones. It really was the perfect pictures. So the last guy who was fuming about his missed shot just drove his buggy completely missing that group of cute little ducks and at the last moment he could have braked he saw that he was driving over the group of ducks. He did try to brake but it was apparently to late. He hit a baby duck. He was pretty embarrassed about it. We kept joking that he hit his first birdie that day.
  5. Wow read that thread and it sounds like you had some serious fun times.
  6. Yeah I wasn't really into golfing yet when I was there so that's a bit of a shame. I liked joburg. Especially the restaurant part of it.
  7. Cheers David. We dutchies sure are everywhere. Traveling around the world, colonizing some countries and inventing words like apartheid, invading Internet places.....we must be extremely nice peeps since we are still mostly welcome everywhere
  8. My friends and I would go to Portugal on a Holliday and the guys who were golfers were supposed to go to a course while we were there. Two guys were beginners and one friend was experienced. I didn't play at the time and the experienced friend and I thought it would be fun to secretly teach me golf without saying anything to the rest of the group. I trained for about six weeks taking lessons twice a week. When we finally went to Portugal I was confident that I could beat the two beginners in my group. The we went to the course we went to the rangefinder our warming up and I was really nailing my shots to the point that I actually started missing a few on purpose because otherwise I would look to good and blow the joke before we even teed off. First hole, before the club house. People sitting on the terrace watching. The green was 20 yards lower then the tee box. I live in the Netherlands and we don't have a 20 yard difference in height anywhere. So I was pretty nervous and I blew up the first hole and the second and the third, fourth. Well you get the picture. It was four hours of the purest frustration. And at the end I told no one I took lessons and actually trained pretty serious. It took me three years to come clean about it.
  9. Baie dankie. I went to South Africa two times. It is a very beautiful country and I think the people are very friendly. Where in South Africa do you live?
  10. I can't edit my posts or so it seems. So here's a new post. The range session went better than I hoped it would go. Tried the 9 iron and was able to hit solid. Hit quite a few hits to the right though but I think I'll be hitting with half swings within the next two or three weeks.
  11. I'm a freelance software developer. I am mainly contracted for my Java and scrum skills and like working on complex projects. The great thing about this kind of work is that the hours are flexible so that gives me a lot of freedom to hit the course when I like.
  12. Hi All, I was reading on the sand trap for quite some time but I started posting since last week. I am 33 years old and from the Netherlands. I have been playing golf for about five years but when you see me swing you wouldn't say it. At the moment I'm recovering from a shoulder injury so playing a round will be difficult for the next coming weeks/months. But there are a lot of area's I can work on in the meantime like my short game. cheers, Paul
  13. Going to range again today. I had no pain in my shoulder from my last session so I am quite stoked about it. Gonna try to hit it 40 yards again, or not, I'll just see how it feels. As soon as I can swing with a bit more backswing I'll add a video.
  14. Yeah luckily it is my right shoulder and I am right handed. In most other areas it is actually quite annoying but for golf it was the best shoulder to break. Short game improvement is in progress
  15. So I just used my pitching wedge and hit shots of about 20 to 30 yards. Those went well. A bit shaky at first but definitely not using any force on the downswing from my arms. It felt great to hit the shots within a yard of my targets. After a while a tried to go for 40 yards but that was definitely a bridge to far. Felt my shoulder immediately and was using putting to much power in the downswing. All things considered I was happy to be on the driving range again and I hope that that tomorrow my shoulder is not stiff from this session.
  16. Thanx. Not only is it a good idea, but full swing is rather far away for me at the moment. I'll do some pitching and putting today and see how everything feels afterwards.
  17. 21st of March I broke my shoulder during snowboarding. They put two screws in it and that was that. I was out of my sling within two weeks and the pain is gone by now. The problem now is the mobility of the shoulder. I am going to PA two times a week and although things are getting better the progress is a bit slow. Now I wasn't a good golfer by any means before I broke my shoulder. Had a few bad habits like really trying to put force into hitting the ball in stead of swinging at it. So I thought wouldn't this be a good time to build things up from scratch. Let my golf evolve with the healing of my injury. One bad habit should be eliminated immediately since force or power is something I totally don't have right now. Has anyone gone through the same recovery and what are your thoughts on building my game up from scratch? I am going to the range tonight to see if I can do some light chipping. I hope my shoulder holds and that it won't give me any pain or stiffness afterwards.
