Right hand and fingers hurt
norrisedgar replied to kallumama's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
zeitgeist Registered User "My right hand is hurting. It's an 'arthritic' ache." Where exactly is the pain in your hand? Is it in the palm or the finger joints? Do you have an issue with any of your fingers 'locking up' or the joints feeling 'clunky? I've suffered and suffer from tendinitis and arthritis in my hands off and on. The two conditions require different treatment so it's important to make an accurate diagnosis. -
Been doing some great work with Stephan from Evolvr. We're working on trying to reduce the rate of closure and extension in my downswing and follow through as I tend to flip the club over too quickly casuing all manner of horrors. This is my latest video, it's a drill I've been working on to slow down the 'roc' and increase my extension after impact. Really getting the hang of the drill just need to put it into practice with my full swing now. I have already noticed an improvement in my shot dispersion, none of those nasty snap hooks for a while now .

Tee boxes that just screw with your head
norrisedgar replied to nevets88's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
At my old course we had a winter mat that aimed about 50 yards out of bounds. Now that definitely screwed with your head. I think this is where visualisation becomes very important :-) -
Thanks the compliments, I think lol. My hands are a sore point (literally) at the moment. I've been suffering from 'trigger finger' tendonitis in both of them. I'm supposed to rest them but sod that wen there is golf to play :-)

Been ages since I last posted but I've been busy working on my impact position. I took someones advice on here (I think it was JetFan, (thanks JetFan)) and looked up Evolvr. With the help from Stephan at Evolvr we have been trying to get my hands further foward at impact and consequently a flatter left wrist. I have to say this has been one of the hardest things I have ever had to work on in my swing. I think it's been 3 months of work now but I am really starting to see some benefit in my ball striking. Here is my latest video from a face on angle. It is easier to see the improvements in these comparison pictures. NOW BEFORE NOW BEFORE As you can see some definite improvements. The only thing is, I want to improve this even more. Ideally I want my hands to be more infront of my right thigh in the first picture and more in front of my left thigh in the second pictue. I don't know if any of you guys have ever had problems working on this position and if so what drills, swing thoughts you used to achieve a better impact position? I would love to hear any advice/feedback. Thanks. Dan.

Thanks JetFan I will take a look.

Yeah cheers spyder. I just read this could be a cause. It's funny because I've been trying out standing further away to give myself more room. Golf is always a game of opposites lol

Hi guys just wanted to post an update. I've been working on getting my hands more forward at impact with very little success unfortunately. But today I may have figured out why. It appears that I am thrusting my right hip at the ball which is causing me to not have enough room to bring my arms through. I've got a few pictures of my swing compared to Hunter Mahan's and I've noticed just how much closer my right hip gets to the ball. In the first set of pics my backside moves towards the ball where Hunter's if anything moves away from the ball. In the second set you can see how much further my right hip is over my toes when compared to Hunter's. Am I barking up the wrong tree here guys or is this definitely my problem? Cheers Dan.

Cheers mvmac, hadn't noticed my grip slip. It's something that tends to happen so I have to keep my eye on it.

What shot/miss is it you are struggling with? I notice you put shank/slice above your video. Generally these two shots are mutually exclusive, a slice is normally a result of an out to in path and a shank the opposite. You maybe hitting a push slice.

He's not really over swinging but I know what you are getting at. My club goes across the line when I over swing but it is on line when it is parallel to the ground so I'm not really across the line. Tony's problem is that he is very much across the line at parallel so shortening his swing would not help.
-
No probs Tony. The easiest thing you can do is make a backswing, stop at the top and turn and look where the club is pointing. Make sure it's pointing at the target and that is the feeling you want to take into your proper swing
-
No that's great thanks JetFan. Interestingly if I do a 3/4 swing I can get my left wrist flat at impact. Maybe that is because my arms don't have to move so far and fast. Speeding my arms up might be the key. It's like you said you hear so often not to swing with your arms but let your body do it you become sort of brainwashed
-
Just a quick observation. You are swinging across the line at the top of your swing. This will make it very difficult to make a consistent strike on the ball. The red line is where your club is pointing and the bottom blue line is your target line/body line. The top blue line is ideally where you want the club to be at the top of your backswing i.e. pointing at target. Work on gettting the club more in this position at the top of your swing and you'll find it much easier to make consistent strikes. Other then this you have a pretty decent swing for a 28 handicapper

I've been Playing Golf for: 20 years My current handicap index or average score is: 5.3 My typical ball flight is: slight draw The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: flip hook - push Videos:

Thanks JetFan, your post makes perfect sense to me. I've noticed the difference between my right forearm and the tour pros. Been trying to figure out a way to achieve this same position and not the overloaded one in the picture of my swing you posted. One quick question, should my weight move to the outside of my left foot through impact? so almost like a roll towards the target?
-
I think I understand what you are saying, I'll give it a whirl cheers. Thanks iacas, I'll work my way through these
-
Hmmm...it must be a possibility surely
-
Maybe I didn't explain that clearly enough. When I say he squared his hand enough to hit it straight I mean the ball finished straight on his target line not thefflight was straight. When it goes left he is obviously over rotating the club at impact and hitting a pull I.e. straight left ball flight.
-
Ok. You are obviously swinging on an out to in path. At the range you are able to square your hands enough, relative to your swing path, to be able to hit it straight. At the course you aren't able to square your hands enough, hence the slice. In itself an out to in swing path isn't a problem, as long as it isn't too severe. The only trouble is you have to have good club head control, as you have noticed. Now, why you are able to square the face better at the range is the question. The first things I would check are tee hight and ball position. If you have those rubber tees at the range, difference in tee hight is a strong possibility. Simply, the higher a ball is teed the greater possibility for it to hook/draw and vice versa for a lower teed ball. With ball position, the farther forward you have the ball the more chance you have to square your hands and hence the more likely it is you might hit a pull draw like you do at the range.

Slicing with an Inside Out Path
norrisedgar replied to LI Hacker's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yeah I agree it's fairly rare but I manage to do it more often than is good for my game lol
