  1. I am a golf course supt. if i hear thunder or see a cell coming I get my guys off the course asap. raking a bunker or mowing a fairway isnt worth dying for. the marshalls will sound air horns for the golfer but sadly some wont heed the warning.
  2. I play 9 holes a week and maybe get in a 18 hole round every other week. For me I dont pay attention to stats much except for tracking my 3 putts. I am coming off a six year lay off been back at it for 2 years now. I currently have a 7.7 index which was pretty much what it was when I stopped playing. For me its all about putting. I actually hit the ball way better now than I ever have putting not so much lol I just bought a new putter and have been devoting any practice time to practicing my lag putting and the dreaded 6 footers. I am happy to report my stroke is coming back. If I do not have any 3 putts I can usually shot 2 or 3 over for nine. I also roll in the occasional 20 footer now.
  3. True that! I remember at one of our Superintendent meeting we were all dreading the up coming Masters Tourny because for the next month after it you get wacky requests from the members and the famous " why doesn't our course look like that " lol
  4. Yup and thats why golf Is getting more and more costly. shoot I remember when I could spray greens once a month and fairways 3 times a year. not any more. And those sprays aint cheap. I am not trying to step on any toes but golfers expectations have gotten out of control the last 20 years.
  5. geauxforbroke my bad I did misunderstand you
  6. Who defines properly maintained? every course is different and have different budgets whats considered good conditions at some courses might be poor for another. And I stand by my statement that good golfers would rather play a firm fast course than a lush one.
  7. The links courses are not deliberately under-maintained they just let mother nature do her thing. In some open championships the course has been lush and green do to a rainy season. Obviously no one wants to put on dirt but on the other hand to many people cant play or think a course is awful if it has some brown grass. I don't know maybe its just me, but I would think most good players would rather play a dry fast course than a soft lush green "pretty" course.
  8. I love the open championship. It's my favorite major. Those courses are what right to what is wrong with American golf. American courses are over green, over watered, over priced. courses here tend to take away the "ground game" In my opinion a dry course plays better. A old timer told me once that you don't play on the color green lol. I know what it costs to maintain a course I have been a Superintendent for 20 years. If people could except some brown, dry turf costs would decrease a lot. Oh well everybody was Augusta but pay muni prices. Give me the so called "goat track" any day.
  9. I am a sub in the members league at the GC I work at so depending what flight i am playing i may play whites or blues. I have to say playing forward isnt that much easier. Its was actually very different in terms of sight lines on tee shots. I actually enjoy playing it forward once in awhile.
  10. just stoping in to say Hi. been playing most of my life. took a 5 year layoff but started playing again. I am currently a 7.7 index. worked on a golf course since I was 16. I am a golf course Superintendent.
  11. Amen to that. Most golfers I see at my course play from the wrong tees for their abilities.
  12. golf course superintendent
