  1. Finally heard from one of the pros that I called. Had a lesson with him today and all I can say is WOW! It was only an hour lesson, but by the end of it, he had me striking the ball so pure that I felt like a pro myself. I've never in my 13 years of playing have hit the ball that well. Still have a lot of work to do, but the first lesson was well worth what I paid and I'll definitely be taking more from him on a regular basis.
  2. Have you tried looking in the used golf club bins of the courses that you play? I happened to play in Florida the other day on vacation from Texas and found the A wedge for my Callaway X-14s. It was $20. I didn't buy it since I had recently picked up a few Cleveland wedges, but had I seen this before, I would have definitely picked it up as I still like my X-14s.
  3. It's weird. I've called 3 different pros and left emails on their respective website contact forms. All 3 are PGA Professional teachers, 2 at country clubs, 1 at a large course here in Houston. All 3 came from recommendations from one of my local golf store's employees. I've even made it a point to tell them that I need multiple lessons on a regular schedule, not just one here and there. I'd drive to the courses in person, but each course is about a 40 minute drive for me and would hate to waste it if they are not there since 2 are private clubs I can't even play on once I get there. I have a guy here at my local course that I live on, but he just does lessons on the side and works the pro shop on the side as well. Doesn't have any teaching credentials and while he is cheaper, I really need someone to re-work my entire golf philosophy of 13 years of bad habits.
  4. I've called and emailed a few golf pros in my area about taking some lessons, but can't seem to get any of them to respond. This is my first time trying to find someone to take lessons from, so do I need to give it more time or is this pretty normal and maybe I need to know a person who knows a person who knows a person to get an in?
  5. Sorry for the threadjack, but Jim may be right on this one. Looks like it was filmed in Kingwood. http://www.clubcorp.com/Clubs/The-Clubs-of-Kingwood/Amenities/Golf Also, from Wikipedia: The film's climactic scenes take place at a fictional U.S. Open tournament set in North Carolina . Several pro golfers and golf personalities make cameo (credited) appearances, playing themselves. Some of the film was shot in Kingwood, Texas , and some was shot at Tubac GC in Tubac, Arizona . The movie's 18th hole is actually the 4th hole on Kingwood's Deerwood course; the lake that guards the front of the green on this beautiful and difficult par-5, actually a par 4 in real life, was built for the movie by the film company.
  6. My home course is Newport Golf Club in Crosby, Texas ( http://www.newport-tx.com/course/ ). We just had a house built on hole #2, so being able to walk on and play is an added bonus. As for the course itself, it is nothing special, so getting a house on this golf course is not what you may imagine. When it opened in the mid 1970's, it was a private club with regular league play and tournaments. In 2000, it became public with new ownership and has really struggled to maintain the course due to lack of business. Don't get me wrong, they still water it and aerate the greens and whatnot, but they don't mow near enough as they need to. They have been removing dead trees lately to clean it up and they are getting some tournaments back in, so I think they are on the rebound and hopefully will get in better shape soon. As for the course, my favorite hole is #18. It's probably the most picturesque hole. 420 yard par 4 dogleg right with water along the right side hitting onto an island green surrounded by sand bunkers. It's a nice hole to finish on. Here is the view from my backyard. I'm right at the 150 yard marker and about 250 yards out from the blue tees. I get about 10 to 15 balls a week hit in the backyard that people either don't find or are too lazy to look for. http://imgur.com/TfG2hPz
  7. I have decided that this will definitely be by next bag. I'm a pocket/organizer freak and love what this bag offers. OP, definitely check it out.
  8. Process Operator. Basically run air separation plants using computerized controls. Work shiftwork, so I get plenty of days during the week and sometimes on weekends to golf.
