  1. thanks for the replies fellas. i would like to get a sand wedge and ill have to look around and see what i can find. really need to work on my short game pretty bad and would like to have the sand wedge to at least that club in the bag as well. thanks for all the info.
  2. Can any of the Missouri Golfers suggest a Pro to get some lessons from? i have looked on the PGA website and found a bunch. thought maybe some of you all could suggest some you have used in the past.
  3. I do hope to take some lessons sometime but not sure when and where to get them at haven't really looked into it yet but I do plan to. also hopeing next year that ill be able to afford to buy a membership to out country club where I can play at any time I want and as much as I want that will help also I know.
  4. i was doing the same thing today. ill have to try and move the ball forward and see how that works out.
  5. its been over 2 years since i played last time. so today started out on the driving range to make sure i could even still hit a ball. well the driving range went pretty good. tried to hit most all of the clubs i have now. did pretty decent but was pushing the ball off right pretty good. wasnt really a slice as it really didnt have a curve to it. the ball was pretty well straight but just off to the right. but for the most part i was fairly happy most of the time. so went out on the course and the majority of my hits were pretty good for my skill level i think. tried to keep accurate track as well as i could playing by myself. out of 9 holes for 35 i shot a 66..not the best by any means but for me i dont think its too bad at all. had 3 holes that were an honest Double bogie. had some decent putting on the green as well my best putt was one about 15' and stupid me i left the flag in...well my 15' putt nailed the flag pole right dead on and didnt go in. i know if i would have had the flag out it would have been a one shot putt. most putts were 2 putts with a couple 3 putts. like i said not the best by any means but for me i am ok with it. at least i know what i have to work with and what i need to work on. and im going to keep working on it. my short game is horrible i know that. i had one hole that is a par 3 and the black tee is 176 yards i think if i can remember. i took it conservativly and hit a 5 iron off the tee. came up about 15 yards from the green with a bunker between the green and the ball. so tried to pitch it over and on the green...which i did and hit it too hard and it rolled all the way to the other side of the green and up on a hill on the other side in the rough. so grabbed the pitching wedge again and had a little better hit then but still was more striking the ball than getting under it to get it up in the air. then went for a 2 putt for a double bogie. so i know muy shirt game needs work. also had some good shots off the tee box with the driver..not long balls maybe 175 yards or so but fairly straight with just a little push to the right like normal. got to get that worked on as well. but for the most part i was fairly happy with my first time back on the course. cant wait till the next one.
  6. i jsut got my clubs and they came with a Callaway hyperlite 4.0 nice bag but before next season ill be upgrading as i already see that i might end up filling this one up pretty quick.
  7. was at Academy sports today and picked up 2 18 coount boxes of redo balls. reconditioned. i got one box of Callaway and one box of Titelist. there is a mix of each in each box. think they were $10 a box for 18 for a beginner i think i can afford to loose them and will at least give me some decent balls to play with also.
  8. so tomorrow I pick up my new to me only 9 holes played set of callaway clubs. the irons are the diablo edge 4-AW. now I'm still pretty new now I know they will come with irons 4-9 and I'm assuming that the AW is an approach wedge. but not sure if they will have other wedges in the set but I will tomorrow. my question to you all is there more wedges that a beginner might need? I know I see a lot of talk on wedges and I know that they are needed but what would be someplace to start with as far as say a 56* 58* 60* and so on? or should I wait a while and see what happens on the course for a bit. still trying to get info and relearn myself on what each club should be used for and at what distances and so on the set I am picking up tomorrow I think was a fantastic deal and has way more clubs that I think I have ever had in the past. so I'm just trying to get some info on it all before I just go on a golf buying binge
  9. I'm planning on playing at least a round Sunday. get my new clubs tomorrow so got to go test them out and see how they do.
  10. me being a new again golfer after getting back in the game after quite a few years a lot of this information is very helpful. I for one appriciate the time it took you to put it all down. will be checking out some of the books for sure. thanks
  11. wow rats a great bunch of info. would it be feasible for me to buy a net to put in my back hard? we have a course here and was thinking of getting a net to do just what you say but be able to do it on my own time anytime I wanted to. do you think as far as training or anything of the like that that might be better to get to be able to practice? i do understand that there isn't anything better than seeing ball flight and so on but thought the net would help a lot...opinions?
  12. Well everyone this weekend i will be picking up a great set of clubs to start playing again. when i played in the past i was at best an "ok" golfer. never knew what kind of handicap i had...but i am sure it was way up there. i know from the past that i have a bad slice from time to time which i know is pretty normal for a beginner. so this time with getting back in the game i want to try and go all out and get to be the best player i can be. i was wanting to get some ideas from you all on what type of training aids and so on that you all could suggest. i know a lot will say get lessons from a pro, and i would like to at some time but right now thats not a great option due to my location. so i thought i would try and start with some training aids. so could you all suggest some good aids to use to start off with. Thanks
  13. talked to the guy with the set of Callaways. he said he would hold them for me for a few days till i can get the money up for them. im gonna see if i can scrape up a little extra and get those. i think they would make me a nice set and as my game gets better i could take them to a Golfsmith store and have them fitted to me. so i think that is what im going to try and do.
  14. well thats good to know. i might try and see if i can get them a little cheaper just buying the clubs and bag. maybe i would be better off with those than a box set.
  15. yes that was from Craigslist. the guy has that compleat set with bag and some other stuff like some callaway balls, a pair of shoes (which wouldnt fit me) and some other odds and ends.
  16. the adams tight lies set is $500 and i did find a set of Callaways Set comes with a hyperlite 4.0 stand bag, callaway diablo octane driver, callaway big bertha diablo 3 wood, callaway razr x 3 hybrid, callaway diablo edge 4-aw irons, and odyssey white hot 2 ball putter. and has some other odds and ends. i was thinking something like this would be a good deal to start with and as my game improved i could take theses clubs and have them fitted to me
  17. the club sets i was looking at was the Callaway Strata plus set for 300 at Golfsmith its a compleate18 piece set for 300 which i thought was a pretty good set being made by Callaway so i didnt think that was too bad. i also saw that Adams has the Tight lies set for about $200 more. would these be a better set vs the Strata set? there looks to be the same ammount of clubs and so on but the thing i notice is with the adams set i could get a stiff flex which for a beginner i would think is best where as the Strata are a uniflex. do you all have any opinions on these 2 sets? would the Adams set be $200 better?
  18. hello everyone. i am new to the forum here looking for some info and tips. i am wanting to stat playing Golf again. i have played in the past but have always had cheaper sets of clubs and kind of oddball stuff. the question i have is in your alls opinion do you think it would be better for me to start off with some box set of clubs or a name brand set such as Ping Taylormade, Callaway that i could buy used? i have looked at the Callaway Strata set and also have been looking on craigslist and some used name brand sets and the name brands are not a lot more than the new Callaway Strata Plus sets. another question i have is if i do go with a good set of name brand clubs such as Taylormade and so on would i be able to change the clubs as my game gets better and so on? i dont know if some brands you can change by a good fitter or not. i have played like i said in the past and had some decent clubs back then but have got rid of them so i have nothing now. just thought i would get some opinions from you all Thanks
