Suddenly hooking the ball?
camforreal replied to 2PuttShakur's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Read this man. Really helped me understand what was going on a lot better. http://thesandtrap.com/b/playing_tips/ball_flight_laws Sounds kinda like you have a good inside to out swing path but your face might be closed at impact and I haven't seen your swing but you may be too flat, might have too much weight on your heels or be squatting. Not really sure since I can't see what you are doing. And I am no pro lol. Just throwing some ideas your way. -
difference between iron and driver
camforreal replied to blaylock6502's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I try to not think about more than one or two things when I am swinging on the course or range. I usually pick one mechanics related issue and then something feeling wise like stay relaxed. I usually drill that one mechanic issue until I feel pretty comfortable with it then change to something else. I have a big issue with plane, so I do alot of thinking about swing plane pre-shot, take a few practice takeaways or whatever I need to do to get that feeling I need for the plane, and then once I address it I think stay relaxed and just rip it. I am sure some people can think about 10 things at once during the swing but I cant. My mind gets all cloudy and cramped and I just hit bad shots. -

To add to what hacker said, you want to swing the club, not hit the ball. Being relaxed will allow you to swing completely through the ball instead of hitting at it. -
Hitting Irons to the right....
camforreal replied to sigfan2340's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Your whole swing plane may be too steep, or you maybe be fine in your backswing and may be casting when you start the transition. Check out this article. It helped me visualize the swing plane. good luck. http://www.golfdigest.com/golf-instruction/mental-game/labauve_0810 -
Suddenly hooking the ball?
camforreal replied to 2PuttShakur's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'm not great, but I have dealt with everything you have multiple times. Where is the ball starting out initially? Straight and then hooking badly left? Or is it a pull hook? -
difference between iron and driver

The more flat my swing gets the harder it is for me to hit irons but the easier it is to hit the driver. I am not a golf pro so i don't know the exact science behind it. I just seem to have a tougher time getting back to the correct impact position. When I start making bad contact I get tense and frustrated, so after I have a bad swing or if i just feel wound up I try this. Take in a deep breath, and start slowly breathing out right before you swing. Try to maintain that relaxed rate of breathing throughout he swing. If I get tense that really helps me relax and smooth out my swing, and if I am over thinking stuff it helps because I try to spend most of my energy thinking about the breathing rather than the mechanics. Might just be over thinking or trying to hard. Maybe it will help man. Good luck! -
AH I see exactly what you mean now! Def a bit corny, but I now know exactly what you mean and I honestly didn't even know i was doing that. Thank you very much for the tip. I will do my best to implement it. I appreciate it!

So kinda feel I am pulling the left shoulder back down the line first and then around instead of just rotating my shoulders immediately? And thank you for the kind words! I am new to the forums and I have only played 6 or 7 times this year. Trying to really push myself to improve.

And a slow motion version of it as well.

How far do you hit your clubs?

Lol I have been playing for probably over 15 years total and I am only a 10. Last few years I would only play a few times a year, but I could usually take a year off and go shoot an 85 without hitting a single ball or putting a single putt. I am a shining beacon for mediocrity lol. Played 3 rounds last year probably and one of them was a 75, but then I just quit again. I finally want to get semi-serious about improving my golf game. Laziness and lack of motivation are my best features.

Thanks TJ. I was pretty sure it was from coming inside too much. Every time I try to steepen it up just a hair I over correct and come over the top some. I guess I need to just need to do it over and over until I find that slot. Can't find that sweet spot. I think I am gun shy on the whole thing because I used to try to play a draw with every club and I always had issues with snap hooks. Right before I quit I seriously changed stuff around started trying to play the fade just because I hated the snap hook so much. I have a few in mind. Got some prices for all of them. Gotta try to trick my fiancée into letting me shell out that much cash a month. I don't really like my local club, but the price is decent and I really don't want to commute to my "home course." That way I can just swing by after work and do some game improvement. Trying to figure out all the logistics and pick one that works the most for me.

Hey guys first post in Instruction and Playing Tips. I have just recently started playing again after a long layoff and I am shooting low 80's consistently, but I am trying to cross that threshold back into the 70's. I feel that the only reason I can't yet is consistency (which is most likely due to taking so much time off.) I am sure their are definitely other areas that need improving, but I have (or I feel that I have) identified three flaws with my swing as it currently is. 1. Closed clubface at the top of the backswing. -Probably could be fixed just by repetition in front of a mirror, but I am not sure how concerned I really should be about it. 2. I don't feel that I am keeping my right heel planted long enough right before and during impact. - But it makes me nervous to keep it down because of what #3 is. 3. Whenever I try to play a draw with my driver, I sometimes (not sure the exact terminology) feel like I get stuck inside. -It feels like my right arm comes under too much almost and when it rotates through it makes me off balance and I don't transfer my weight through properly. I can play a cut/fade if I need and I can draw it with decent consistency, but sometimes I get "stuck" and I end up hitting it a mile straight into the right woods. If you have shared the same issues, have any easy drills you are familiar with, or feel like you know which would be the most important to address first please let me know. I would love to hear any feedback, and maybe I can get my fiancée to video me swinging this afternoon after work. Thanks!!

I'll just walk into AAC and demand a membership and a heavily discounted rate. Should go over like a Led Zeppelin.

Thanks a lot grubby. Not sure why I didn't think of doing that in the first place lol. I will do some research this week and see if I can find something that fits. If you get tired of that R11 btw I will take it off your hands.

Hey guys just joined the forums. I am 25 and live in West Georgia. Currently a 10 handicap. I used to play some tournament golf and played on my high school team for 3 years. I have been away from golf for some time and have just returned and really miss the competition. I have asked around and their don't seem to be any local clubs or leagues I could participate in so I am looking into some amateur leagues or "tours" I guess you could call them. Really just want to meet new people and feel that atmosphere again. I am wondering if anyone on here has ever played in or knows someone who was played in any of these "leagues" and could give me any insight into the experience and what I would really be getting myself into as far as costs. Not in it to win or as a platform to get to the next level. Just want to have fun and meet new people and challenge myself. AGA Tour http://www.agatour.com/ Atlanta Golf League http://www.atlantagolfleague.com/ Amateur Golf Tour http://www.amateurgolftour.net/index.htm Thanks in advance.
