So last high school match of the year, drove ball about 150 away from green on abut 380 par 4, pull 7 iron out. Theres a bunker right in front of the green (from my angle). Land the ball just over the bunker and land it about 3 feet away. Sunk the putt for my first birdie of the day

I had my first eagle today, on a par 5.. I hit the drive about 260, in the fairway, then a three wood to about 5 feet off the green, and chipped in! The chip broke in, and I put my arms up because besides an ace and breaking 80, and Eagle has been on my golf bucket list. I put the ball away, and plan to save it.. I'll mark the Titleist NXT Tour and keep in in my room haha...

84. Best round of my life so far, and did it by not thinking.. Really just didn't focus on anything and just had fun with it.

How to make high school districts (avg. 81) this year?
islandersfan1 replied to islandersfan1's topic in Golf Talk
Thanks for this. It really put everything in perspective. As for the advice of aiming for the center of the green, I will try to focus on it. I saw on another thread that one person has two goals in mind on each hole , and that's all he focuses on: Fairway first, then GIR. If I just look at those two things and focus solely on those, it might help me keep things under control. Oh, and one last thing, does any one else split the course into 6 3 hole courses, and try to go one over each course (to break 80)? Because I feel if I focus on that, I should be good, because I also read about 3 6 hole courses, but since this is smaller, my small mind will focus better haha.. Thanks, and hopefully on Monday, I can focus, hit every fairway, then hit the center of every green, make my two putt and go one over in every three hole sequence. Thanks!!! -
How to make high school districts (avg. 81) this year?
islandersfan1 replied to islandersfan1's topic in Golf Talk
Just an update, I still need to average exactly an 81 after an eh round of 88. So I need to get down 7 strokes, and I have a match Monday. I don't think it can happen, but my ball striking is improving thanks to the 5 simples keys and course management. so I am playing my home course Monday, which is very narrow, where I cant hit driver.. It's going to be really tough, but if I stay mentally in it, and focus, and know what I need to do, I can try to make the first step to getting to districts. -
Should I buy a Three wood?

Thanks for the responses. Ill take a trip down to a golf store tonight and see if i find one that i like -
Hi, I am on the high school golf team, and my home course is a VERY narrow course that has woods on every hole, and only has about three holes where I can play my driver and be comfortable. When I don't hit my driver I usually hit my three hybrid, or an iron if a hole is that narrow (there is one fairway that is literally 5 yards). The three hybrid goes about 190-200 for me, but I've read that a three wood's distance is about thirty yards shorter of a driver with more accuracy.. Really, the only thing I need work on is off the tee, because iron play and short game for me is good. So, would it be beneficial to invest in a three wood? Thanks.

93 at a school match.. It seemed a lot worse, so I'll take it.. If these are my bad days, I'll take that..

Ok, so here are the current standings (as of 8/21/14) AL East (although at this point it's the Oriole's which hurts me since I'm a Yankees fan) BAL: 73-52 TOR: 65-62 - 9 GB NYY: 63-31 - 9.5 GB (Tampa is 12.5 GB, but it's too big a gap for them to come back) AL Central: KC 70-56 DET: 68-56 - 1 GB CLE: 64-61 - 5.5 GB AL West: LAA: 75-50 OAK: 74-52 - 1.5 GB SEA: 68-58 - 57.5 AL Wildcard: Oakland: 74-52 Detroit: 68-56 Seattle: 68-58 - 1 GB Cleveland: 64-61 - 4.5 GB Toronto : 65-62 - 4.5 GB Yankees: 63-61 - 5 GB National League East: Nats: 72-53 Atlanta: 66-61 - 7 GB Miami: 63-63 - 9.5 GB NL Central: Milwaukee: 71-56 St. Louis: 69-57 - 1.5 GB Pittsburgh: 65-62 - 6 GB NL West: Dodgers: 71-57 San Francisco: 66-58 - 3 GB NL Wildcard: St. Louis: 69-57 San Francisco: 66-58 Atlanta: 66-61 - 1.5 GB Pittsburgh: 65-52 - 2.5 GB Miami: 63-63 - 4 GB Ok, so after all that, here's who I have winning what: AL East: Baltimore -- Lock AL Central: Detroit -- KC cools down, still gets the WC AL West: Oakland -- More pitching depth AL Wildcard: Angles and KC (Rooting for the Yankees but it's not happening this year NL East: Nationals NL Central: Milwaukee NL West: Dodgers NL Wildcard: St. Louis, Pittsburgh Ok, those are my picks.. Yours?

Had first high school golf match of the year (which we lost by 6 because of a group getting disqualified for a bad card) and shot an 88. Putting was really the thing working, I didn't count putts but it seemed like everything was going in (including a 40 foot par putt). 42+46=88. Next match thursday at a MUCH easier course, so hopefully a good result comes from that!

42+48=90 .. Drives were great, and the putter was just on fire. Only thing that was inconsistent was irons, but I'll take that if the drives and putting are on. Makes me confident for Tuesday match.

Not a bad front nine, but got overshadowed by a PATHETIC back nine.. It was like I just hated golf in the second nine.. So shot a 98, with a +10 46 on the front, and a +16 52 on the back.. The front nine started Par, bogey, par, so I figured it was going to be a good day.. Then right where I fall apart every round, I did so again today, going triple double triple, but finished the front with par par par. Then started the back with a lost drive and a triple on the hardest hole on the course (hole has one handicap). Then bogey, bogey bogey, double, doubletriple, double, bogey.. Not a single par on the back nine. +10 +16, +26 98. Back nine definitely killed me, but the back is by far the harder nine, so have to have a better front score to compensate.. Also, strategically was alittle sloppy, like hitting driver when I shouldn't, and it cost me. . . Just for perspective, I lost 7 tee shots today, and those penalties really add up.. If I could keep it straight off the tee, I'm fine because everywhere else in my game is good. So I've been bouncing it around, and I think at my match Tuesday I'll be hesitant to pull the driver out, because if I keep it in play, I'm good. In the holes I didn't lose the drive, I was 8 over. Get rid of the drives and I'm fine.. 5 GIR, 4 on the front 36 putts, 2 a hole. No birdies, 5 pars (all on front) 4 bogeys, 5 doubles (way to high) and 4 triples (once again, way too high). If I convert just two of the doubles and two triples, that's four shots there. say I play smarter and keep 4 drives in using a different club, theres three (subtract one to compensate for distance). So overall, after this round I feel confident going into my match because of good ball striking and understanding what I need to do to play well. I apologize this is so long, I didn't realize I was dragging on.

Considering this is the last round for the week for me, I'll figure out my best shot of the week now. I would have to say my best shot was a 6 iron off the tee of a par three (170 downhill). I put it within 2 feet, and made the birdie putt. Coming close a lot lately to getting that ace, but it hasn't happened. One day, one will go in haha..

Rough round score wise, but was actually hitting the ball very consistently. Almost every drive was in the fairway, chips were good, but putting let me down.. Had 19 putts in 9, and a couple bad irons.. Chips were great though. Started one over through three, but finished double, double, double, bogey, double, triple.. It felt like I was playing to shoot about a 40, but finshed with a +13 49.. Sigh, tomorrow is a new day, when I'll play 18

Most up and down round of golf you've played?
islandersfan1 replied to islandersfan1's topic in Golf Talk
Wow, fwhat surprised me the most was that people who posted to this thread weren't just like 10+ Handicaps.. Everyone has bad days I guess.. -
I just finished reading The Scarlet Letter, and am currently reading "A world lit only by fire; the medieval mind and the renaissance, portrait of an age". Plus I just ordered Lowest score wins, so I am about to startreading that once it comes in.

There is one friend I have that (because we both work in a community that has a golf course) plays a round with me once every year, and I am trying to get him to join the golf team, and I made this like packet to explain everything about golf. SO, I'm in.

How to make high school districts (avg. 81) this year?
islandersfan1 replied to islandersfan1's topic in Golf Talk
Just found out information and figured I would share it :) . So, the average of 81 is correct.. Also, there are only nine matches this year, which the more I think about it is beneficial to me, because If I don't need a ton of great rounds, just need to get lucky a couple times, play capable the rest, and hope I don't blowup a round.. Also, each school gets to send one person if no one qualifies, and the coach selects the player with the lowest average.. After playing today, I think I am capable of averaging the best, and have the best average at the end of the year. Now statistically it sounds odd, because I started off 10 over through 4.. but after that point went 1 over, and my drives were the problem that was fixed in the last five holes.. I was lucky I was 10 over through four, because my short game (by far the best part of my game) was great, but what was costing me was a drive in the woods every time.. I hit a three hybrid, a driver, nothing was working.. But after that, something clicked and was able to hit straight.. If I can get the drive to consistently go straight, I think I have a shot.. In the first four holes, I pulled everything left, but after that I was fine. So to sum up, I'll take from this practice that I was able to comeback after a beyond horrible start where my driver wasn't going for me.. It made me realize that when I am in a match that if there is a drive that doesn't work out every once in a while, I have enough confidence in my short game to make up for it.. Mentally though, I feel this was a confidence booster, because of the comeback.. I am still a far way from breaking 81, but it's a minor improvement that I thought I'd note. -
I just finished a nine hole round where I started 10 over through four and finished two over through the last five.. Out of no where the drive were going straight and far and just changed the game completely.. What is the biggest up and down round of golf you've played?
-
Played a weird nine hole round today, because I started 10 over through 4 holes.. Every drive to that point was pulled left.. After that, went 2 over on the last 5, to finish with a 48.. Definitely need to get that down, but considering I started horribly and was on pace for a bad day and was able to turn it around, that's definitely a big plus for my confidence in upcoming matches..
-
My best shot of the week came in a round I played today.. For a best shot of the week it's actually not that great.. So I'm on a par 4, and the drive goes 50 yards to the left, into the other fairway.. from about 160 out, on the other fairway, I stick a 7 iron about 10 feet to the hole and save par..

How to make high school districts (avg. 81) this year?
islandersfan1 replied to islandersfan1's topic in Golf Talk
Thanks and I did some mirror work and things like that, but I was able to go out on another local course (much easier, slope I think is 118) and only played twelve. Over all, very good game, but two holes absolutely killed me.. The first and ninth hole.. The very first ball I hit in a real game with the new driver, way right, and tripled the hole.. If the first drive didn't happen, I was good until the ninth hole.. The second hole is where I really loved the feeling of having a driver lol, because about 290, right down the middle and was able to get par. Third was a par 3, and parred it.. The next hole, again great drive, but three putted and got a bogey.. 5th hole hit a 4 iron off tee of a par 4 (because its just an odd hole) and had a GIR but once again three putted. A birdie putt lipped out on the next hole, and got up and down on the next after that to save par.. Then the ninth hole happened.. Once again a bad drive in the woods, and got a triple... After that I went par bogey par.. So I mean I'm not too mad because if you get rid of those two drives, it was a decent game.. If the two triples are bogeys, its 6 over through twelve, which if that rate continued it would have been an 81.. but woulda coulda shoulda.. Im gonna hit the range tomorrow, and work on straightening out the drive more consistently... But I mean besides that one thing I worked on was course management, like in positions where I was about 275 out, I would hit a 7 iron to about 125 out, and then it's an easy pitching wedge for me, and in the three or so times it happened, it worked, I hit a GIR and two putted for par.. So for stats: 12 holes 11over, 5 GIR, 4 FIR, avg. 1.93 putts per hole.. -

I just found out the date of my first HS match this year.. It's next thursday, and we can't practice or use the range until monday because of a club championship... Does anyone have any recommendations I could use because I don't want to pay to go out on another course... So how should I get some practice in the next few days? Thanks
