  1. I've got a 9 month old English Bulldog named Bacon! He's about as close to a kid as I want for now. He's about a expensive as one it seems! bulldogs are predisposed to a lot of health problems and he's already had his fair share, and they're not cheap to get taken care of.
  2. yeah that's totally understandable, i guess i've just not played at a course in a shady area yet. i'm in an area with a fairly low crime rate and mainly planned on carrying while traveling. although after reading your last post i think i'll definately carry when i play while on vacation or if i go to an a course thats in a not so nice area.
  3. i've got two seperate questions here, i'm trying to really play by the rules now and i'm a little unclear on a few things. 1. in regards to a provisional ball off the tee, as i understand it if you hit a ball that you think could be difficult to find you hit a provisional in case you can't locate the first one. so if you DO find your first ball you just play it and pick up your provisional with no stroke penalty correct? and if you DON'T find your first ball you play the provisional except you'd be hitting 3 correct? 2. second question is in regards to taking a drop, ran into this situation last week and i wasn't sure how to proceed. i hit my second shot from the fairway on a par 5 and hooked it pretty bad but thought i'd be able to find it. well i was wrong and couldn't, so where do i take a drop from? i just dropped from where i thought the ball went OB at, but that doesn't seem right to me. thanks for any help!!
  4. haha yeah no kidding bshalcomb! it took forever for them to pass the CC laws in our state. we may have been the last one if i'm not mistaken? another excuse for me to buy some more firearms, currently don't have any that are ideal for CC. Do you conceal the weapon in your bag I'm guessing?
  5. like the title says, i went to destin florida with my girlfriend and my best friend and his fiance. we played at "The Links" located in sandestin, and wow what an experience. this was my first time at a nicer course and i had such an amazing time. they sent a driver to pick us up from our hotel and we were greeted by a staff member who completely hooked us up with all the info we needed and got us ready for our round. we went up to the pro shop and looked around for a while and bought some souveniers while we waited for our tee time to get a little closer before we went to the range and hit some balls, which was included in our price. maybe it's because i haven't played many high end courses, but i was so impressed with the condition of this course, and the friendliness of it's staff. we got paired up with a really nice guy and his 10 year old grandson, i've never been paired with strangers before and was a little nervous as first. it ended up really adding to the experience getting to know this guy who was real friendly and cheering on his grandson who was pretty good for his age! i've also never played on a packed course, but thanks to this site i knew the etiquette of staying on the heels of the group in front of you. it was actually quite a bit more relaxing and enjoyable with so much time between shots, we got to soak in the views and enjoy the weather! needless to say i'll be buying a travel bag and playing every chance i get on vacations from here on out. also as a sidenote we both rented a set of the new nike clubs (covert 2.0 driver, 3 hybrid, 3 wood, new irons, and method putter) and they were a blast to play with!
  6. shot a 48 on the front 9 before i was chased off by a storm. so frustrating considering I was really in a groove (for me) and was on track to shoot under 100, which is what i'm trying to consistently shoot under right now.
  7. I'm all for exercising your right to have a firearm on you if you feel you could potentially need it. that being said, i just got my CC license in illinois and i don't think i'll be bringing mine to the course. however, i've never run into the situation you have and that would probably change my mind! For what it's worth, my dad has a weapon on him at ALL times, including the course. although he is a retired state police officer and has a pretty jaded view of the world because of all he has seen.
  8. i'm currently hovering right above the 100 mark and trying to get consistently under it. really gonna work on intelligent shot selection over the next month and see where that leaves me, i've got a tendency to try and make up for bad shots with "hero shots" that end up costing me more strokes. also gonna try to cut down on the OB penalties.
  9. wow, thank you very much, i'll be signing up with the club!!
  10. thanks for all the help so far, i'm located in the us in southern illinois. i've seen GHIN pop up a lot on this site, is that something i can use without joining a club? i'm just not exactly sure which one i'd be most interested in joining just yet. also about the being honest and playing by the rules of golf, it's amazing how much that will change your perception of your current skill haha. i've been playing that way the past 2 or 3 rounds that i've played, and thanks again to this site, which is where i've learned the official rules of golf over the past year or so, just haven't implemented them until recently
  11. hello everyone.. long time lurker, first time poster. i've played golf off and on for a long time now. however, until recently i've never been interested in keeping official scores or playing in any kind of super serious manner. however, seeing as how i'm approaching 30 i'm starting to embrace golf as a much more dominate hobby instead of some other competitive sports i've played in the past and see it only getting more so in the future. so i've got a few questions i know you guys can help me with, seeing as how i'm extremely new to the serious/competitive side of golf, although very excited about it. 1. how do i go about establishing a handicap and do i do it through an independent person or is that something that a local club could offer, should i choose to join one? (considering a few courses near me) 2. i'm very interested in getting into competitive golf (local tournaments, leagues, etc.) once i've established a handicap and solidified my game a little. is it necesary to be apart of a club to do these things? (best?) i really appreciate any help you guys can give me, and plan on being an active member on these forums now that i've broken the first post seal. haha thanks!!
