Need Help Choosing a New Set of Irons
cvlngineer replied to cvlngineer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I played my first round with the r7 TP's on a course that I have never played before. It was not a pretty sight. It was not the new irons' fault though. I couldn't even hit my trusty old wedges. Just one of those days, I guess. I did finally hit some decent shots with the new irons on 16 17 and 18. I will try them on my home course tomorrow. It will be an irons only day, to try and get used to them. -
Has anyone bought from 3balls from EBAY?
cvlngineer replied to rycur12's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I just bought my new set of r7 TP irons from Global Golf, on ebay though. I was very happy with their product and customer service as well. -
Has anyone bought from 3balls from EBAY?
cvlngineer replied to rycur12's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If I remember correctly, I bought a used lob wedge from them, and it was in great shape. I still have it. I bought a new set of wedges, so it has turned into my sand club. -
Are remanufactured/refurbished balls ok?
cvlngineer replied to GaijinGolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have bought used Pro V1's from an old man that sits outside of the fence on my local course. He sells them for $15 a dozen, and they have all been fine. It doesn't hurt nearly as bad when you lose them, either! -
How often do you go to the driving range?
cvlngineer replied to La Costa Golfer's topic in Golf Talk
I hardly ever go to the range. It just seems to mess me up. -
Congratulations! Sounds like you had a great round.

It took me 4 months. The lowest I had shot up until that point was 115. that day I shot a 95. I was ecstatic. I have practiced a LOT since then and have gradually gotten better. MrSandman touched on a point earlier in this post about playing a shorter course to learn how to break a scoring barrier. For me, this seems true. Once I broke 100 for the first time, it was pretty easy to repeat. The same was true for consistently breaking 90. Now if I could only break 80 consistently!

I asked in another forum, but evidently it was not approved. I am currently using a program called Caddy Master Pro to track my handicap and stats. It uses a MS Access database for storing data. If I switch over to Scorecard, is there any way that I can import all of the rounds and courses? I have about a years worth of rounds stored. Thanks, cvlngineer

Thanks for all the replies. I will load up on Motrin before I play tomorrow. I stretch like crazy before a round, my brother makes fun of me, says that I act like I'm fixing to run the Boston Marathon or something! I didn't stretch very well before I demoed the irons the other day, though. That may be the cause...

Last week I had some family come to visit and we played a LOT of golf. Last Wednesday I played 2 rounds, Last Thursday I played 2 rounds, last Friday, Sunday and Monday I played 1 round each day. Then on Tuesday, I wend to demo some new irons and hit quite a few balls. This wednesday I noticed a bit of a dull ache in my right shoulder. It is not really hurting badly, but I feel some minor discomfort. Any ideas on what it could be? I am used to playing on Sat, Sun and sometime a couple rounds during the week.

Need Help Choosing a New Set of Irons
cvlngineer replied to cvlngineer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I decide on the r7 TPs. I found a brand new set of unhit demos that were already 3/4 inch longer than standard for $500. I took them and had some new Golf Pride Tour Velvet mid-sized grips put on them yesterday. I decided to leave the lie angle alone for now, instead of having them bent to 1 degree upright. I wasn't sure that 1 degree would make that much difference. I will try them out tomorrow. Hopefully my handicap won't start skyrocketing like it did when I bought my blades! -

I got them in the mail yesterday, but I haven't had a chance to play them yet. I will let you know how it goes. -
Shoes: Adidas or Nike
cvlngineer replied to myndcraft's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Take a look at the Hi-Tec Super Power Pro shoes. I have two pair and they are the most comfortable shoes that I own. -
What make of glove do you wear...
cvlngineer replied to PutterHead's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The Bionic Glove is the most comfortable and durable glove that I have found yet. They are expensive, but they last me over twice as long as Footjoy, Nike or any other brand that I have tried. Next to that, I would say the cheap Wilsons that you get at Wal Mart, they outlast the more expensive brands in my experience. -
I can't dispute that! Their stock courses leave much to be desired. They do not have updated versions of most of the courses that I play either. But I prefer to map my own anyway, that way I can put in my preferred points. I know you can do that with the SkyCaddie, but you lose the green approach feature when you map your own. It is really just a personal preference thing. If you are in the market for a GPS device, you realy can't go wrong with either.

GPS Golf Guru I was on my PDA earlier, so I could not elaborate. It has the same receiver as the SkyCaddie SG5, but no membership fee, and you can map and store up to 20 personal courses. You can map a lot of hazards/points per hole, and the best part is that you can map the perimeter of the green. Once you map the green, it will tell you the yardages to the front edge, center or pin, and back edge of the green from any approach angle, just like the SkyCaddie. You can also keep score and some stats on it, and upload it to a handicapping website. The problem I had with SkyCaddie is that in the area that I play, most of the courses are player-mapped, and thus, don't have the green feature.

How do fitters determine to what degree the lie angle needs to be adjusted? I saw on the tape (at Golfsmith, he used masking tape and had me hit off of a rubber mat) that the mark was just a hair toward the toe of the club, but the fitter did not whip out a digital micrometer or any other measuring device. He just looked at it and said, "you need 1 degree upright." LOL

I was fitted for clubs and was told that I needed the lie adjusted to 1 degree upright. My question is: How much difference will this 1 degree make? Is it worth paying to have it done?

Need Help Choosing a New Set of Irons
cvlngineer replied to cvlngineer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I am really looking forward to playing a round with them. I was only able to hit the 6 iron, since that was the only demo that they had. On the launch monitor, I hit 20 or so shots and they averaged about 184-187 yds. I am anxious to see if the whole set is this way. Are the launch monitors accurate? This seems a bit extreme. With my old 6 iron, I am lucky to get 170 out of it. You have been playing them for a month, did you notice a large jump in distance with them? -

Well, I went and hit the r7 and the r7 TP's at Golfsmith and both hit very well, but the TP model was a little easier to shape shots with. They are both LONG! I have never hit a 6 iron that far in my life. I decided to get the r7 TP's -

Yea, I am planning on trying them out at Golfsmith. -
The Top Flite Gamer is an excellent ball and, in my opinion, so it the D2 feel. I have also used the cheap Dunlop balls from Wal-Mart ($9 or so for 18 balls), and they spin surprisingly well. It doesn't hurt as bat to lose them either!

I do like the looks of the r7 TPs, but I sure don't want to jump the gun like I did with the musclebacks. LOL
