  1. I hear a lot about tempo and agree.. and many talk distance.. but to be a good striker I assume accuracy is what you are really after? or does that just come with good contact with the ball. I took it as the previous.. accuracy. In order for me to improve I need a specific measurable goal.. my coach gave me his lesson plan - but we both agree it is too advanced for me right now.. the lesson plan is for an emerging scratch player and I am 20 HC now. So we are working less agressive accuracy. He has it broken down into putting, pitching, chipping, irons and driver play. Focusing on accuracy. He has a distances and dispersion for each club. Not setting the distance, but the radius that is success. I want to know what different HC should be. Example he has a 5 iron requirement of 30 diamter, 15 feet +/- long/short/left/right. it gets tighter going down the club range. Putting is like x out of 5 at each month, and a range of distances. So what is your HC, and what is your accuracy out of 5, or 10 that you hit the green, or say 20 yard diameter. etc.. Or did I just segway off the intent of just hitting the ball crisply
  2. Anybody use torrent files.. I live in Shanghai and can't get a decent sports channel and when I do.. it is in Chinese. Mine is ok.. but not good enough to enjoy the commentary and all that is going on. I use torrent files to get what I want to watch... I suffered through the US open with getting reruns and missed much of it. I would like to to a torrent server and get golf.. but all that shows up are the dang PS2 games.. Nobody is posting golf - I thought it was a valid sport Can anybody help point me to a torrent server that has some golf content.. thanks from an expat in China..
  3. I track way too much data. I don't do the group unless it is my monday AM skins match. On weekends I will do my buddy but leave the other two regulars to do their own - just a familiarity thing. I use Inteligolf on my pda, and track shot distance on nearly everything. For me it is valuable because I use it guide my next area of focus. I have been an engineer/engineering manager my whole life so indicators to me are critical to get feedback with. gus
  4. Recently I started using a magnetic marker - one from Dalit Bay resort/golf course in Malaysia. Next I will be getting a USA flag magnetic marker when I visit the NW US next time, as I am an Expat and live in Shanghai China.. I want to show some color over here!
  5. well, mabye 10:30 is too strong of a statement... and sure there are swing issues, 11:00ish. The toe on my left foot is in line with my right heel.. so that is probably not that far.. just feels strange compared with standing perfectly in line. Distance in yards,,, most courses here and around Asia are in yards.. found a couple that were in meters though. Question: Is there any reason a fade would carry farther than a straight hit? Given all things being equal. I thought spin was evil. gus
  6. I am pretty new to the game so far,, mabye 10 full rounds and 15 or so 9 hole outings. So far I have been very fortunate with my driver, now I am swinging a G5 10.5 stiff shaft w/ club head speed of 110. On the range and course I can get a hold of the ball enough to get 220-240, and recently one 250 during my last round. It feels like about 30% are unpredictable in distance, and the other average about 200. I mostly square up and hit with basic form and get a straight flight with good loft, all the while not yet coiling up all the way cuz that is when it gets more unpredictable (seeking lessons on that)... I am swinging about 3/4 with the big stick. Anyway after 3 hours of chipping practic I stopped at the range for some big fun. I decided to try some shot shaping, instigated by a magazine column. So I wanted to learn a draw but my body told me to try the fade first.. it just felt more comfortable. so I aimed off to the left with my body, maybe 10:30 (if straight out is 12) and made sure the club head was square to 12:00, And then I let it rip. Full swing... AND OMG did it take off. WoW, i thought. Nice treat. so I tee up again.. and again.. and again.. grinning from ear to ear.. about 20 shots back to back carrying 220+. don't know the roll from where I was at of course. Then I tried to square up, thinking maybe my straights will be outstanding.. well.. nope. they were what they were before.. most good, a couple of clunkers. then back to the fade and another 20 balls.. So what gives.. I thought spin was bad, and here I whipped that ball as hard as I could and it took off straight and veered right about 70 yards and took off. I think maybe I learned something to use in my future , so what gives. I tried to shoot some fades but got NADA,, which was a shock help with my edumacation on ball flight. 7. Well, my assignment is done in December, but my management is asking for an extension for 1.5 to 2.5 more years.. My wife wants to stay, let's say she has extensive hel; with the kids, and trip to Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, etc... are all OK with her! Heck she is interviewing another Ayee (maid) right now for weekend help. She gets to spend all her free time with the kids (3) and run them around and take care of the, instead of laundry, dishes, house keeping/cleaning etc.. I do come back to the NW to work about every 2 months for 1 week. So I get in some time with the family and friends back home. gus
  8. I am just really getting started in golf,, been at it less than a year total. I had started taking copius notes and quickly determined where I was taking too many shots... 100 down to the pin. I fixed parts of that with some wedge play and dialing in my swing, now I am more confident down to 30 yards or so. I am a big fan of indicators and I purchased inteligolf to help track then.. but even it is not the best tool, What do you all like. I take more strokes than Inteligolf can handle, so the results don't point me in a specfic direction as of yet. One more question, when I am counting putts and chips,, if I am using a short iron to chip /putt onto the green-from the fringe, do I count that as a putt, or a chip? And if you use your putter from off the green in the fringe, then is that a putt? Thanks so much! gus
  9. Hey there, Wanted to join up.. I am relatively new to golfing.. got started 6 years ago, played for 3 months and found out we were pregnant with our 2nd and the wife had to go on bed rest for 3 months. Then before we got mobile again #3 was announced at the little t box, sooooo I put golf away and stayed with my many other hobbies; fanatical fishing, dirt bikes, and misc other infectious fun things. Well, Fast forward to now, I accepted an Expatriate job position with my company in Shanghai China. Where there is no fishing, no dirt bikes and my guns are not allowed. After months of working my rear off my wife kicked me out and told me to get a hobby and I said OK,, and a set of G5 later I am readdicted to the sport. To play golf here is weird, the courses are nothing like the beautiful US,, they are poorly managed and cost a lot to play.. about 120 $ for 18 holes. Oh well, I guess that is why I get a differential pay check Anyway, what I suffer from here are little to no english Pros to teach,, so I am stuck without a coach..Still searching. real name is Dennis, but I use Gus on the forums I attend.. if you know where Gus comes from call me on it - we probably have something in common. later, gus
