Rose has blown his chance, he needed a couple more birdies, not a couple of bogeys. Garcia having a great round, if he can hold it together... . But he too needs a 63 to be in contention. 67 isn't going to do it for him.
He appears to be one of those people who revels in his boorishness - "I'm just a good old boy, I can't be expected to understand all this French culture horseshit, take me as you find me" - but then takes gross offence when anyone says that they don't like what they've found.
Plus he really shouldn't be throwing his toys out of his pram at his age, he's 35, not 3.5.
A particularly charmless specimen.
He
was
Tiger Woods. He hasn't been
that
Tiger Woods since his wife attacked his car with a golf club. The point is, this is a major championship, not an episode of "where are they now".
It's a competition. Interested viewers might like to see those players who are actually competitive.
That's another horrific drive from Woods. Even if his back was healthy, swinging like that isn't going to do it any good. Odds against his finishing the round?
I've never been there. But it seems ridiculous to me that they can drive it 40 yards off line and still have a good line in to the green. Huge wide fairways, almost no rough even if you're really wide, and (judging from the TV) no real character to the place. There must be more testing and interesting venues available.
Funnily enough, I know that. Argyll was the centre of the first Scots kingdom, I believe, and that's my lineage...
Meanwhile, Westwood birdies the third. He looks like a man who knows how to putt. Must be an impostor..
Actually, I'm more Scot than Sassenach. And in general, I'm pro-Irish, though for some reason I can't stand McIlroy, either. But Harrington has always seemed unappealingly vacuous to me, a couple of slices short of a full loaf.
EDIT. Fantastic up and down for Westwood, maybe he isn't past it after all...
That's one of the things I most dislike about the way they set these courses up. It's a Major Championship. These are the best players in the world. There out to be much more severe penalties for not being straight.
Yes, it has been a nice comeback. But I still feel he's going to blow up more than once in this tournament.
In other news, Bubba W looks like a man who doesn't really think he can win. Slightly odd.
