Holy Moly.. Your talking about playing an 80 after 7 months of learning golf??? It has taken me 2 years to learn how to hit a driver...That is simply awe inspiring..
-
Played this weekend with my 1.5.. Freaking awesome.. 11/13 fairways hit, average drive is 235. Which for me is very nice. Had 2 drives close to 250... They will have to pry this club out of my cold dead hands.. :)

I would love for someone to head to head compare the TM Mini and the Bertha 1.5!

Good Freaking Lawd.. Fairway BUNKERS!! argh.. every hole was pinched with bunkers at 200-220 yards. And I hit most of them :) Fun course, cut through the Florida jungle, good bit of wild life. Oh, And its hot...and humid..

I am still trying to figure out why I can absolutely crush my XHot irons with REG flex stock shafts, and yet the same swing on other brands is short, and chunky. I have read that the Cally shafts plays soft... Has anyone proven that the 85 shaft actually plays DOWN a flex speed?

Ok so I went to a fitting and here are the results. 7 Iron Callaway Xhot Regular standard with Step 85 shaft Vs Titleist 714 AP1 Regular Standard with XP 95 shaft He checked the length, and lie of my swing. Both are standard. Results for BOTH clubs using the same exact swing on both: Spin 5800 Peak Height 30 yards Mid-high face strike Callaway speed = 72 mph for a distance of 152 yards carry Titleist speed = 62 mph for a distance of 132 yard carry Questions: WTH!! I lost 10 mph in ss? Or - Does the ball strike being high on the face impact my distance that much?

When do you start playing blues?
TexasTom replied to TexasTom's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Played 6200 this weekend, couldn't make long Par 4's in 2 but my 58 wedge flopped near the hole on 3 occasions and let me save Par.. Seriously, a Chip-an-a-putt is a real thing??? -
I tried out some upgrade Irons this weekend. I have been playing a set of Callaway XHot for the past 3 years and wanted to try out some new GI irons (Titleist AP1). I appeared to make decent contact, good flight, however I have lost yardage.. not like 5 or 8 yards..but like 25 yards!! Is this due to missing the "sweet spot" and never knowing it before, and focusing on better swing? I don't even know what to do with that kind of yardage drop. For Reference my Cally 7 Iron was 155 Yards, and 8 was 145 Yards.

doing some rough analysis, it appears that half of the par 4's on Blue / Champ tees are averaging 415. This means that a Minimum of a 250 drive is required in order to have real GIR Approach shot. You can still make an up and down chip, but I agree with the Tee-it-forward, a 250 drive is the key to moving to the Champ tees (6200-6400) -

sheet, thats what I get for not reading the post before I posted.. :) -
I am not a long driver, I am getting more consistent throughout the game, so my handicap is improving, but I still play whites. Is there a point that someone should start playing from the longer tees? Or is it just for the longer drivers out there?

Help with club selection for long fairway shot
TexasTom replied to BigJBuck04's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
At a 30 handicap stop thinking about Birdie. Think about Bogey with a couple of pars. There is absolutely NOOO way you are going to land a green at 190 yards consistently. Use a 6 iron land it in the fairway right in front of the green, and use a wedge to get close to the pin. The closer you get to the pin the more chance for PAR, if not.. then Bogey. 18 Bogeys is a 90, that is your next challenge. -
This is designed for those of us that are Driver-impaired. I use the TM Mini-Driver. The latest 460cc 47 inch piledrivers are literally too much to hit. But these Super 3-woods are awesome. I have more club head speed on it and a 100% more consistent golf shot. I have a SS of about 93mph, and I hit this 70% fairways at 230 yards (with roll). Since the average Par 4 from the whites is 375, that leaves a nice 145 approach to the green...still par-able.

I am planning a Bucket List trip. For playing Pebble Beach, do you HAVE to stay at the $1000 night resort or do you / can you stay somewhere else close by?

Callaway Xhot vs TM Mini Driver
TexasTom replied to TexasTom's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
According to GC2 my driver is generating 6000 rpm of backspin, and I am averaging 38 yards of height. So.. It's my swing. Although I did try the TM SLDR and it reduced my spin pretty significantly, it's a lot to do with my swing -
Callaway Xhot vs TM Mini Driver

I will stop by Golfsmith and use a machine to get my angle of attack and see if I am hitting down more than I think. although I may end up walking out with a new driver if I go there :) -
Callaway Xhot vs TM Mini Driver

The original xhot is not loft changeable so I cannot adjust it. Maybe I screwed it up by chopping the butt end -
Callaway Xhot vs TM Mini Driver

The mini driver is the 14 degree -
Question for the pros: I have a 88-90 MPH driver swing. I have a Stock PXv Regular xhot 11.5 driver that I has 1 inch taken off the butt end. I have a Regular stock Taylor Made Mini driver. I hit both clubs the same distance.. about 210 yards whyyyyyyyyy??

I had the pleasure of playing the Wailea Emerald course last week. It was positively breathtaking. I will convert some video to Youtube and add some additional snaps.

Right... This is why I stated that I was attempting to create force by rotating my torso 1.5 times over plane (120 degrees). By simply learning about cocking the right wrist, I now only have to turn 70-80 degrees to achieve parallel backswing, I get better ball flight, and similar distance. "Less is more" My grip was so tight (white knuckles) that I couldn't release as well. I was trying to swing a golf club attached to a 2x4, and swing with everything I could get. Feels much better now. Regarding proper video posting: I just discover that my vacation camera (Nikon AW120 Underwater) has High Speed recording! it records at 120fps 640x480, so I will take out the tripod and repost some DL and FO videos.

So we worked on two things, easy swing and using the wrist. I was trying to "create" power with a flat wrist which meant I had to rotate to about 120 degrees to get the club parallel, last night I was hitting 30% swing "power" using the wrist, no over-swing, so no hip sway or hip thrust. I was probably 5-8 yards shorter than I my max possible. I was hitting a 7 iron 145 carry dead straight.
