Oh he's definitely an ass (arse in the UK!) Although I found Boo and J B Holmes to be slightly annoying over the weekend aswell. I think it's because they are like your typical American working class people where as our working class people, which I guess you'd class poulter as, are totally different in attitude. But we love Poulter over here as much as you guys love boo and J B.
  2. Shitting hell!!! I don't play golf if it's over 80!!!
  3. True enough, the strike would likely knock the spit off the ball. By the way, what on earth is dipping? Sounds interesting.
  4. Fair enough, it's not really the phlem that would concern me, more that it's a sign of disrespect. Maybe it's different in the US but it's looked on as something animals do in the UK, it would anger me not because of the spit on the green but the fact that the spitter thought it was acceptable to just spit. I know it's a cliche but they wouldn't do it in there lounge at home, so why do it on the golf course. I appreciate that you don't spit and I probably wouldn't say anything if I saw someone spit on my local course but I was just a bit shocked to see a pro doing it.
  5. No he said the group ahead aswell. I just try and focus on what i'm doing, if someone takes ages over their shot I just let them. I can't say i've had someone take like more than 1 minute per shot though.
  6. It's hardly the point, if someone needs to spit, which incidently is illegal in public in the uk anyway, they can do it off the green. Spitting is something that is fine in a fast paced sport that involves a lot of running as you build up lactic acid and spitting is a good way of releasing it, but in golf it is unecessary. You wouldn't expect anyone to piss on the green, if you need to go you go in the woods or behind a tree, I don't see why spitting should be any different.
  7. Every year my family has a golf day, and as I just got married last year I invited my father in law along. He said he didn't play much but I said it's fine as we're all sunday hackers. Anyway we all tee'd off and all was good and he walked up to his ball, picked it up, put a tee in the ground where his ball was put his ball on it and hit it. I've never laughed so much in my life!!!
  8. I was playing yesterday and two kids were in front of us, and firstly they weren't wearing collared shirts or trousers which isn't allowed, but secondly I didn't see either one of them hit a ball further than 10 yards. I mean they were awful, you could see that they were embaressed but they never apologised. After the third time we caught up with them on a tee I just said to them 'look we're playing through now ok?' They both immediatly agreed and watched us tee off. But the point is that if you can't play golf, you shouldn't be on a course, that's what the range is for.
  9. You wouldn't say that if your ball rolled through it.

When did he call American players unproffesional? I didn't think they were, I did see Boo Weekley spit on the putting surface which I think he should have been punished for but in all I think they were well compsed.
  11. Nope never even heard of it. I've seen someone hack about 9 times in the rough and then kick the ball out of the rough in frustration but never to just get a better lie, they also counted every shot and then pocketed the ball for that hole. I would be mad if anyone I play with did it. I mean whats the point of playing if you're gonna cheat, you're only cheating yourself.
  12. Surely this defeats the object of the game? I have never even heard of anyone doing this, if I played with someone and watched them do it I would start counting their shots allowed. That'd stop them doing it. My dad used to do this to me because when I started playing I would sometimes address the ball and then move away, and my dad would shout 'ONE' and then if I did it again he'd shout 'TWO'. It used to really annoy me but it stopped me doing it.

He was a contraversial pick in my opinion. I think many people wouldn't have picked him at all. But I totally agree he was far and away europes best player and deserved to be on the winning side. I would have picked Casey and Clarke before the tournament, purely on form and attitude, but Casey didn't have a good cup at all, and people like Harrington and Weswood didn't look their usual selves. Harrington in particular had a shocker, I think you could forgive him though after winning B2B majors!
  14. Yeah I saw Boo Weekley spit on the green, I think he was chewing tobacco or something. I don't mind people spitting on the fairway if they really need to but on the green? I think I would have told him to wipe it up. Not because i'm a prude but it's disrespectful. Golf is a game of etiquette, spitting is uncivilised and there is no need on the greens.
  15. I had exactly the same problem and have only recently got over it. Now my hybrid is by far my favourite club. It feels so good to hit a 200+ yard shot from the rough. I'm so glad I perservered.
  16. I've got the us on sunday. Europe is clearly the favourite but we all know that means nothing in the Ryder cup. I just hope it's entertaining.
  17. Thanks, that's an ace video, I learnt a lot from that. Now I can't wait to get my hybrid back down the range to try it out.
  18. Yeah I think I have seen this before where they kind of imitate the blade with the back of there hands, can't remember who i've seen do it though. Probably just an idiosynchrasy like the different forms of waggle. I find myself taking mini steps on the spot before my swing like i'm getting them comfortable or something.
  19. Thanks very much for all your replies. I went to the range today but I didn't take it. Next time I go I will take it and give your suggestions a go. I had a problem with my driver, which I believe is common in noobs, where I was trying to force the shot and ended up not being able to hit it. I went back to the drawing board and really looked at my technique and now i'm a lot more confident with my driver. The problem is that i've never seen anything telling you how a hybrid should be hit, technique, etc. So I have been trying different things, but I think possibly I am forcing it again. Next time I go I will take it nice and easy and try not to get too frustrated. Thanks guys!!
  20. Really? I haven't seen that. Do you have a link?
  21. I think i'm gonna just leave it out of my bag for a month or so, just use my 3 and 4 woods instead.
  22. Yes well, my only knowledge comes from magazine articles really. I have been using it in both ways really, usually off the tee i've been sweeping it like a driver but from the fairway i've been hitting it like an iron. At the range today I hit about 20 balls with it and I think I hit 2 that actually went over 100 yards. My dad said to just leave it at home for a few weeks and try it again later. It's frustrating though because I really want a club that I can use in different situations.
  23. This is the best pic I could find of the club. It's a lovely club and i'd really love to be able to hit as consistantly as I hit my irons. Please HELP!!!!
  24. Hi everyone, i'm a noob to this forum and to the sport really. I first really got playing about 2 months ago and haven't looked back since. I personally think I have picked it up really quickly. I can make good contact with 90% of my shots and my accuracy isn't too bad. Like everyone I have good and bad days. Recently my Dad bought me a Ben Sayers M8 utility club which has a 20 degree loft, and on the first day that I got it, I was smashing it, I couldn't hit a shot wrong with it. But ever since then I just can't seem to make a decent contact with the ball, if I use it on the fairway I usually top it and if I use it off the tee, I slice it and it goes about 15 yards! It's got to the point where I am scared of using it even on the range because I don't want to harm my swing whilst i'm still developing it. Has anyone else had a problem with hybrids, or any other club? How did you get over it?
  25. I have exactly the same problem, although I am a complete rookie, one of my biggest problems is being stood over the ball and being so concious of being watched by players better than me. I also start to get annoyed with myself and then make mistakes. I have to take a real big step back and relax to snap out of it.
