1. Thanks Ben One of the lads at my club has some c taper 130s in his clubs, he said I can have a hit with his so I'll see how they fly. I was told they would help my ball flight which is a quite high. Re the clubs I really fancy the TP s , I've seen a few sets now but really like the idea of a split set like you've got., how do they fit in for distances ? Jim
2. hi all I current use rocketbladez tour with project x 6.0 shafts and I'm considering moving to the 2014 tour preferred mc irons that my mate is selling. They have kbs tour x shafts in. I suppose my question is is there a big enough difference to warrant the change and will the shafts in the mc be too stiff for me ? I started playing properly this year and have come down from a handicap of 13 to 9.1. My driver swing speed is now around 110mph. Any thoughts ?
3. My first eagle, 530 yard par 5. I hit my driver 315 yards ( wind behind ) then hit my 4 iron to 4 foot past, the people on the next tee box ( which is right behind the hole) said it missed by an inch. However the shot I'm talking about is holing the putt. Mr 40 putts per round was over the moon !!!
4. Thanks savvysweed. I was wondering that it just I was doing a gapping session with my new irons and I tried my hybrid while I was there ( I never use it anymore ). Everything was consistently straight the got the hybrid out and massive pull hook every time. He wasn't giving me a lesson but did say for that to happen with just one club it's probably the shaft. I got fitted for a driver a few weeks back , my swing speed was consistently 117 mph and they put me in a tour stiff shaft in the ping g30 ls. They didn't have the X shaft to try but he said I didn't need too as my spin rates were all around 2000 and my distances were good. That's why I thought the same shaft in a hybrid should be ok ?
5. Thanks rdsandy , do you know how this compares to project x 6.0 rifleshafts ? I have them in my irons and they seem to be fine
6. Hi all Quick question I'm looking at replacing my hybrid, it's the taylormade 3 rescue with stiff shaft. As I've been having lessons recently my swing speed has increased and I seem to be pull hooking everything, I've been told the shaft is too whipy. The club I'm looking at as a replacement is the ping g30 with a tour stiff shaft. I've been told the Taylormade stiff shaft isn't that stiff as shafts go and was wondering if the ping tour stiff will be better ?
7. Thanks mate ill give him a try, giving away at least 5 shots per round ATM on the green... So frustrating !!
8. Anyone know the best place to get Fitted for a putter in the north west of the uk ? I'm an awful putter and I'm hoping it's because I'm using the wrong style putter and not because I'm a lost cause
9. Tried the s55 and really enjoyed it, a 7 iron so I suppose that should be easy enough to hit. There's also a second hand set of rocketbladez tour at the range. Have had a bash of the full set on the range and tbh they don't feel any harder to hit than my standard rocketbladez, might have a go at these until I can afford some newer ones
10. Ill have a look at those tonight. What I mean about killing my swing is if I give the rocketbladez a whack they go miles so I think subconsciously it almost becomes a big hitting competition then my shape starts to go and the strike isn't as good. With those clubs as long as its not a shocker you still get away with it. If I never practiced and played everynow and again they'd be great but I practice all the time and at this stage of my development I'm worried about papering over cracks
11. By touch I mean touch around the greens not with the irons. Distance control is something I'm really after, almost looking forward to the challenge of trying to hit some. There's an s55 at the range which I'm going to try tonight, ill see how that feels. I don't know if that's a genuine blade but its marketed as a players iron
12. Distance isn't really an issue that's one of the reasons I'm happy to change from the rocketbladez. It's touch and accuracy, mainly touch though
13. ok another question am I more likely to stay a 6-9 handicapper because ill never have a good enough swing to hit blades, despite how many lessons i have and practice i do, or because my chipping and putting will never get to the level required to be any better ? This is not meant to be sarcastic and is a genuine question
14. I
Nick Faldo has lots of ideas that aren't necessarily applicable to average golfers. Do you think you could force yourself to run 100 metres in under 10 seconds by just competing against Olympic runners? You can't force yourself to ingrain a good swing just because you are using blades. Getting blades won't make you a better ball striker. A good ballstriker is not unduly disadvantaged by using them. A poor ballstriker is. Your swing will be extremely consistent no matter what level you are at. You will still know how you hit it no matter what you use. You may get away with less than perfect contact, but frustration in not hitting blades in the middle does not force you to become better, it adds to the frustration.
I understand what your saying but my body is physically incapable of running 100 in 10 seconds, it is physically capable of learning a decent golf swing. It's whether my determination to succeed is stronger than the frustration caused by failures along the way that's the question
15. Thanks
From his book 'Faldo - In Search Of Perfection' published in 1996: "With my golf equipment, it is more complicated, as I can only use clubs and balls that suit my game. At various times I have played with Wilson, Spalding and MacGregor clubs; now I use Mizuno. Usually the deals have been put in place before I have a set that I am completely happy with." "In 1986, after a couple of years out of the limelight and a previous club deal having gone by the board, Karsten Solheim's Ping company was looking to get me interested in playing with their clubs. A set was sent over in the summer of that year and I tried them out in the European Open at Sunningdale - and went round in 62. After the way I had played, John Simpson from IMG came down eager to make the deal, but I don't know what he must have thought when I said, 'I'm sorry, John, these just won't do, the ball goes too straight !' "I have always been a worker of the ball: I like to shape it left to right or right to left, never straight. The Ping's are fine clubs, but I just couldn't manoeuvre the ball in the way I wanted. Ping's are the frontrunners in perimeter weighted clubs, in which a much higher percentage of the weight is located at the heel and toe of the clubhead, giving a much wider 'sweetspot' than a traditional blade and are more forgiving to the handicap golfer. Their hooks and slices don't go as wide, but it was that very concept that made them unsuitable for me." "I would advise any youngster aspiring to be a great player to learn the game using blades rather than the 'game-improvement' type clubs. That is the only way to develop a quality strike to see him or her through to the very top. Some of the top players now play with hollow-backed clubs, but learnt their trade with the blade. It is a bit like learning to drive with a gear shift before moving onto automatic transmission."
Thanks pal, its just what I was thinking, why would I want to make practice as easy as possible while I'm trying to improve
