  1. im still having issues with the mentioned site. Anybody else???
  2. I just played my first round with my new SuperQuad. I shortly lost interest in how the sole of the club was looking as long as it continued to perform the way it did. It was the first time I was CONSISTANTLY driving near 300 yards. I ended up losing a couple balls because the course I play on, if you drive over 300 on a certain hole, you'll put it in the water from a stream that runs straight across the fairway. I have NEVER put it up that far before, so I just swung.....oops I guess. I'll know next time. The sole scratches are bothering me less and less. Thanks for all the advice on the zero friction tees though.
  3. What I meant was how far into the ground do you stick your tee? Not how high you tee the ball. Sorry for the confusion. Do you buy a 4" tee and put into the ground 2" so when you hit, the tee is for sure going to break? Or do you buy a 2" tee and BARELY stick it into the ground so when you hit, the tee itself goes flying without breaking? All the while, your ball is teed up to the normal height you would always tee at. Therefore eliminating a broken tee to scratch the bottom of the club? The more I think about this, the more that method seems logical...haha.
  4. I know im not hitting it thin, because when I was at the range, I put some contact tape on my driver to see where impact was. I was either dead center and in a bit, or dead center and slightly high. Occasionally I'd have one right on the nuts, but not thin. I have heard the zero friction tees are hard on clubs? I dont think I'd use em on par 3's but I could see doing it for driver I guess. Also, the tees I was using today were green. It was an emergency buy after running out. I had green streaks along the bottom also, but those washed off pretty easily. Maybe I will try out the zero friction tees. How far do you guys usually stick your tee into the ground?
  5. After a long debate and endless testing, I finally got rid of my regular flex TM 425 Quad driver today and got a stiff flex TM SuperQuad 460. Took it to the range right afterwards and instantly noticed the improvement a stiffer shaft can make. Distance is much longer and I feel as though my swing is more in control. I love it. But....the driver has a black sole and noticed right away scratches along the bottom from what Im guessing are the tees Im using. The tees break about 90% of the time after a hit and they scrape along the bottom of the driver making hairline sratches in it. Its not a huge deal since its purely cosmetic, but after spending some good coin on a driver, Im being overly picky I guess. Anybody know a fix for this? Shorter tees so they dont break on impact and just barely stick em in the ground when I tee off? Softer tees? Do they even make a "high quality tee"??? By the way, if anybody has any input on their SuperQuad, go ahead and chime in, Im eager to hear how its working for others too.
  6. I have a membership at Golfspan.com and lately I cannot view any videos. They all come up saying "The video you are try to access is no longer available from this site". Anybody else having problems with the site? Reason I ask is because I was referred to this site by NUMEROUS golfers on here and it has been an outstanding learning tool. Great content on that site. Just wondering if anybody else happens to be a member and experiencing the same issues.
  7. i would definately start with a regular flex shaft, that way you know you dont have to swing too hard to try and live up to a stiff flex. I have a swing speed of 105 to 110 but I sure didn't start that way. I got into a regular flex shaft right away with a swing speed of about 95. I was border line between regular and stiff. I wanted regular to be safe and not be so intimidated. Great decision. I am just now looking for a driver/shaft combo with stiff flex as I am indeed growing out of my regular flex lately.
  8. Usually too much flex in a shaft, especially the driver will tend to pull or hook the ball. Too little flex and it will push or slice normally. Of course the normal swing mechanics will have some play in that too, but this is just the norm of the "flex" mystery and what it "can" do to your ball flight. I would say that the chart above is accurate in some areas, but not in others. Again, with other members on here, I can hit an easy 8 and go 150, but I dont think I carry the driver 260+ yards unless im really on that day. I am also in the hunt for a new driver/shaft combo, considering im using a regular flex shaft and no matter what I do, Im always pulling/hooking my drives. Tried a stiff flex for a round and not a single hook or pull. Try different clubs/shafts setups and get a feel for it that way if you dont have a launch monitor in your area.
  9. I was in the same position last year about wedge purchases. I hadn't even owned any wedges and just counted on my PW do get my approach shots on...yeah...not so much. So I know how you feel. I personally went with a 52, 56, and a 60 of the Cleveland Black Pearl Wedges. I think most people on here vote for either a Cleveland Wedge or a Titleist Wedge. I have found that most Cleveland wedges are easy to hit and I absolutely love mine. They have probably been the best golf purchase yet for me, as they have cut numerous strokes off my game. Whatever route you choose, you definately wont be dissappointed by getting a wedge. I use my 56 more than the other 2.
  10. Has anybody had any experience with Footjoy pants? They have a rain pant but on their site, they were $175 and thats a little pricey for me. I was trying to stay in the $100 range.
  11. Im looking for some good rain/wind pants. I've been playing in light rain here the last couple of days and my Nike rain/wind breaker jacket has been great for keeping my upper body dry, but my jeans have become soaked by the endof the day. Any suggestions on some good pants for wet weather? Looks like rain for the next week again here so bring on the suggestions...
  12. Well, a higher ball flight isn't that bad. But...if you would like a more penetrating ball flight, remember to get that weight transfer fully completed. Back foot on the back swing then transfering to the front through the end of the swing. Dont exagerate it, but just keep it in mind and practice. Im also new to the game so take my advice with a grain of salt, as Im only telling you what has worked for me and what I've learned throughout my short golfing career.
  13. Tough to know where the head is at in the first pic, but it seems like you turned it quite a bit. This most like came from taking too long of a back swing. From the angle in the first pic, the club seems a bit past parallel. On irons, well mine anyway, I dont even get to parallel and it helps with my control to not take as long of a back swing. Also, your club has dipped considerably in the first pic. On your back swing, the shaft of the club should follow the same line as your arm. If you drew a line from your arm, you will see that your club is below that line. What is your normal ball flight? Keep that right arm tucked in a bit more (the driver cover drill works great for that) and get that club shaft back inline with your right arm and you'll see improvement. Good luck with the game!!! Couldn't get the video to work, so I went with what I saw in the pics
  14. I have serious thought about shooting a video of myself out at the range one of these days. I mean, I have the camera, tripod and the guts (stupidity) to possibly humiliate myself on the Internet so why not right? Ok, Im writing myself the note right now so expect some video footage within the next couple of days...I'll get this game down yet! Thanks for all the help everyone and glad this thread turned out the way it did, very informative!
  15. A USGA/GHIN handicap is ultimately the way to go if you are serious about your golf game in my opinion. I mean, I just got my official one last year and started posting scores and it has honestly helped my game. First of all, if you are serious, you make every shot count because who wants a high score (unless you're sand-bagging..haha). Second of all, it gives you something to stride for and then when somebody asks you, "Whats your handicap"...you can have the best answer available. No guessing (cheating).
  16. Well, I think I narrowed it down to two things: 1. I was swinging too hard. Every time I just thought about a nice relaxed swing, tension free, with a proper follow through, I made great contact with a straight ball flight. 2. My shoulder and hands were getting too much ahead of my hips. I wasn't using my lower body enough. So I shot my hips through a little quicker and it seemed to help tremendously. The irons seem to be going great again, but my driver is still hooking very badly. The clubhead is so closed at impact its sick. If I do get a decent shot, it still hooks or even slices occasionaly. I think I will take up a lesson if this continues and I just cant seem to nail it down. Thanks for the replies, it has helped a lot!
  17. Is doubling a 9 hole handicap really accurate though? I mean, it could go both ways and you could be more or less as accurate and consistent on the back nine (if there was one) I suppose. But to assume you would shoot exactly the same on nine more holes seems a bit sketchy to me. Maybe Im totally wrong, but I play nine hole courses as "practice" considering they dont count towards my official handicap. Anybody else have a take on this?
  18. That article makes sense. I think my problem is that Im having issues on a swing plane, hence the "over the top" motion. I was told I have an upright swing right before this started to happen so now my mind is on trying to level out my swing plane, but that seems like it has only caused more problems. I seemed to be doing fine with an upright swing before, but now I think its catching up to me.
  19. I also use the official GHIN USGA system to obtain my handicap for tournaments and such. You only need scores from 5 rounds of 18 to start an official handicap, then you can enter your subsequent rounds after that into the GHIN system to alter your handicap even more.
  20. So this is my second year golfing, but I've managed to get myself down to about a 10 handicap or so. I started the season hitting very well and very confident. I golf almost daily. Thought I might get the handicap down to the single digits even. Yeah...not so much anymore. All of a sudden I am pulling the ball so bad it hurts to watch and it scares me to even golf with others...haha. It happens with all the clubs with a full swing. The chipping and putting are still fine. I've been told im turning my upper body WAY too much on the follow through and the clubhead is closed on release. I never used to do this. When I first started last year, I had the normal "beginner slice" and with some personal work, I cured that one and was hitting very straight for a long time. I have no idea how this happened. I am clueless as to where to start to recover from this. Lessons? Tips? I can get a video of my swing if need be, as Im sure its hard to diagnose a problem you cant physicallly see. I do appreciate any response regardless though!
  21. I've also heard this stuff works great. I thought about the bicycle shorts too, but as an avid cycler myself, my shorts have some padding in the seat area that would be quite noticable under regular pants or shorts. Last thing I want my fellow golfers in my group to whisper as Im teeing off: "Look at the guy who has to wear Depends". HAHA. I'll try out the previous suggestions and go from there.
  22. I agree with the "can be a near debiliating injury" completely. I had some days last year where I contemplated quiting my round early to prevent further damage. I have heard gold bond works well and I do have some compression shorts as I will try those also. I had a feeling there were more people than just me on here experiencing the same issues.
  23. Not sure if this has been covered before, but I did a search on it and got nothing. Hopefully its appropriate for this forum, as I feel I'm not the only one with this issue at times. On longer rounds, mainly on hotter days, I get chafing in the groin/buttock area. I am a male of course, I but I have heard it can happen to females also. I have also heard it can happen regardless of weight or size. I didn't feel it till after my round today and I remember the feeling from last season also and never really did anything about it besides not golf for a day or two. I dont want to have to wait a day or two without golfing if at all possible. I plan on golfing on a daily basis, so I was wondering if anybody had any advice?
  24. So the I5's are a mixture of both as it states? Im not a fan of the S58's though. I tried them once and didn't like the feel of em. Maybe this is all in my head and I should play with the I5's a bit more throughout the season to decide.
  25. I am just recently coming off a broken arm that happened in March, and getting back into the "swing" of things. During my recovery, I was unable to take a full swing, so I played A LOT with my putter and wedges. I practiced a lot of putting and half swing chipping with Cleveland Black Pearl Wedges. Now....I am able to take a full swing and ready to get back to playing golf. I have Ping I5's and they seem really light now. Is it a head thing? I am so used to the weight of my wedges and I like that heavy feel so I know where the club head will be on contact. Now, I swing with my Ping's and I have no idea where the club head will be on contact...it weird. I hit the MP-60's the other day on a simulator an I liked the feel of them and the weight. Im about a 10 handicap or so. Any input is appreciated.
