Surgeon said pins aren't necessary. I have a distal radius fracture. its called a Colles' Fracture. just a cast and weekly x rays. he was able to numb me up well enough to push the bones together and then cast it. he said 6 to 8 weeks before cast comes off though. ugh.....

hahaha. been boarding (8 years) longer than i've been playing golf (2 years), but i have to say that golf is much less painful. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks alot for the reply! A lot of what you said makes tons of sense. I had an 11.5 last year and I was just launching it way too hard, im just debating between a 10.5 and a 9.5. Im leaning toward 10.5 at this point so I can keep learning. Im also leaning toward a stiff shaft, but I dont want to over do it. Definately NOT an X shaft, but a stiff I think will be good. I will see if I can find a launch monitor and get a driver suited for me. Thanks again!!!

Thanks for the reply. They look very respectable! I was on the simulator this week at a local shop, and it wasn't what I expected and Im thinking the salesman was telling me what I wanted to hear in order to get me to buy a driver. So...I more or less looking for some knowledgeable people who can help me get into a driver thats right for me and my swing. I will definately check this place out when Im there though. Thanks a lot!

As a resident of Fargo, ND....finding a shop that does a good job of fitting for clubs is a challenge. Basically up here, you buy what you see on the display stands...not a great idea if you're looking for a driver specifically for your swing if you ask me. I will be in Reno, NV for a week on spring break visiting family, and I was just wondering if anybody knew of a good golf shop in the area that does fitting. Specifically for a driver. Thanks!!!

Thats what I was confused about too. Last year, on the course I could carry the ball quite far, but with not so much accuracy. Maybe 270/280 but with sometimes a killer slice. I have gotten over that it seems and my swing speed seems faster. Again, this was on the simulator and this "salesman" told me that the carry distance is off, and not to look at that so much, just the ball speed to determine swing speed. I have not been able to find a real "fitter" in my area. Kinda sucks, but I think Im making progress on which driver I will buy, just need to keep testing them out I spose. I dont hit "down" on the ball with the driver, but I seem to de-loft the club at impact. Meaning my hands are a bit before the ball at impact. Thats why I use a 10.5 driver and not a 9.5.

thanks for the reply. I have checked numerous places in my city but nobody has a launch monior...just similators. Hopefully somebody else can chime in with some input, I would greatly appreciate it.

Well, I was on a simulator today testing out new drivers. I was previously hitting an R7 425 Quad 11.5 degree with R Shaft. I have outgrown that one and its hard to get the ball straight now due to increased swing speed. I tried the R7 460 10.5 degree w/ S shaft and the R7 Super Quad 10.5 degree w/ S shaft. I honestly couldn't tell a difference. So at $100 less, Im probably gonna go with the R7 460. My questions are: - My ball speed was between 145 and 155 MPH, what does that translate into a swing speed? The employee watching me said roughly 80% of the ball speed is your swing speed. Is that true, I just cant picture myself having a 120 mph swing speed, but who knows, I've never seen myself on video. - My launch angle was between 11 and 15 degrees, is this ok? - My average carry was about 250 to 260 yards with about 8 to 12 yards of roll. The employee also said dont pay too much attention to that as its not completely accurate. He said the main things I should be looking at were the launch angle and ball speed to find the right club. - I asked about a shaft and they pretty much could tell me nothing. I would like a shaft that is suited for me. If the shaft on the club is the one, then so be it, but I hear of so many people upgrading their shafts because its one of the most important components of the driver and its important to get a shaft suited for your swing. So, based on the info I gave, would there be a recommended shaft for me? Im partial to Fujikura because of all the good things I've heard from many good golfers who ALSO use the R7 460. But which one? I have been to all the shops in my city and nobody does a definate "driver fitting".....which surprised me, so I'm kinda of clueless as to what I do for shaft fittings. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

I took my first lesson today and he said my swing is pretty good for only golfing one summer. He did mention some things to work on though. He said that periodically my head shifts down on the back swing and doesn't correct itself on the downswing causing my upper body to also come with it. This causes the club to move a bit forward and hit a fat shot aswell as the occasional strike right off the hossel (sp). Are there any drills for keeping your head level? He mentioned its just going to take practice and to think about it on EVERY swing. He also stood infront of me extending his arm and putting his finger on my forehead. He told me he should no feel pressure on his finger from my head if I was swinging right. I guess when Im alone on the range I need something to add a bit of help. Thanks guy/gals, this is a great site! Dallas

I understand what you're saying about a PGA pro and the range. Trust me, I spend hours a week at the range, but I've only had one lesson, and the Pro basically told me my swing is perfect, just to keep practicing with it. For some reason, that didn't seem right as shots are all over the place and I'm very often hitting the ball FAT. (hitting the ground too solid after impact on the ball, so the ball doesn't go as fas as I would have liked). But it bothers me to think that I'm practcing the wrong things at the range, and therefore, decreasing my chance to learn the right things. There has got to be something that I can practice with to get my swing form down, other than spending hundreds of dollars on countless lessons that I wont be able to retain at this point. Any input, or am I way off track here?

I am new to this sport, just started this year. I am shooting about a 19 handicap on a good day, over 25 on a bad day. My consistency is lacking and I need to just develop muscle memory and a solid, comfortable, consistent swing. Not looking to drive the ball 300 yards, or even 250 for that matter, just consistent all around swinging and contact on the ball for all my clubs till I get consistent, then I'll focus on playing for distance and aim. ( In like 5 years...haha) What are good swing trainers to use?

Well, I was out at the range today and its definately my swing. I was able to tweak my swing a bit to get out of the outside to in and get it more even. The slice went down a bit, but not as much as I had hoped for. From what you guys are saying, its probably not my club as much as it might be my swing and hand position. I think I'm just coming down with an open club face. I will try and locate a launch monitor in my area to get a proper reading. Have any of you heard of Austads? Not sure, but what would a good place be to get this done? Thanks again!!! Dallas -
Will a stiffer shaft help a slice???

thanks again for the advice. Do you guys think an 11.5 degree driver is too much. It was great for learning, but now, it just seems annoying that the ball goes so high. Could that be any reason for a slice...too high of a trajectory? Any advice? -

ok, thanks for the input! Sounds like I just need to take my driver to the range for a day or so and just slow my swing down till I get a consistant straight shot. I have noticed that my swing shape is a little bit different than when I first started, so that could be it too. -
Hello, I just started golfing this year with a Taylor Made r7 Quad 425, 11.5, Regular Shaft Driver. When I first started golfing around 2 months ago, I could hit this club pretty good, not so much distance, maybe a 180 to 220 drive consistantly pretty straight, very high, but straight. Now, my swing has gotten more developed and has a faster speed. Could my faster swing speed be conflicting with the flexible shaft, high loft angle, and spin rate to be causing my slice? It seems EVERY single shot off the tee is the same kind of slice. I can occasionally hit a straight shot but I am tweaking my swing to do so and it doesn't feel comfortable and its straight about 10% of the time. Could a stiffer shaft, lower loft angle and spin rate help my slice? Thanks! Dallas

For cleaning the club head, I just use Simple Green. I just spray a shot or two, on bottom, and on the face, wait a couple seconds, then wipe off with a clean towel. You can actually see the grass/dirt stains start to run off when waiting for the couple of seconds for the cleaner to penetrate. Has worked well for me so far!

Thanks for the advice. I plan on taking lessons soon, but I would like to know if I should purchase a good set of irons first? Do you really think I should use the Intech clubs I am currently using? I found out that they are a lower end brand.....full set, around $99 at Walmart. Are these questions that will have to be asked during lessons? Also, about the lessons, as far as rates go: 4 sessions, 30 minutes per session is $140. Is this reasonable? Can you really learn alot in 30 minutes? I appreciate the help so far, looking forward to more responses.

I just started playing this year. My golf game has consisted of shipping in the back yard to experimental rounds on a short 9 hole course to the driving range. I'm currently trying to work on my swing and develop a consistant shot.

Hello all, this is my first post (other than intro). I am a new golfer just this year. The reason I actually got into golf, at 21 years of age, was because I won a brand new Taylor Made R7 425 11.5 driver. When I first won the driver, I didin't know a thing about it, and didn't really care. Then I saw the price sticker and thats where the research began. I have played a couple of rounds of golf with clubs by the name of "Intech". I have not even used the Taylor Made driver yet in fear of developing bad habits with it. I know its bad for your driver to hit the ground, and since I've just been starting, I thought the cheaper clubs would be good for just starting out. I have watched numerous videos on the full swing. I still dont have proper form, and I know this, I will be getting lessons soon. How does the brand of Intech relate and are they "Walmart Brand" clubs? They were given to me so I have no idea. I can make decent shots about 50% of the time, with the irons and the driver.....more so with the driver, but I'm having problems getting under the ball with the irons on a flat, bare lie. (driving range) I know alot of it will be my swing, but could it be the club too? I would like to upgrade my irons at the time I'm getting lessons so I can learn proper form with the better clubs. Is this the right order? Or should I learn the form with the Intech irons? I'm FULL of questions, but I have to start somewhere. This post may be a bit off topic for this thread....so mods, please move this where it needs to be if I made a mistake. I look forward to ANY advice that will improve my game and keep the fun in it!
