  1. anybody seen the new ping 50th anniversary putters and irons?? im going to look at the putters this weekend.. maybe convince my wife to buy me one for fathers day... the pictures on the websites look good, but i havent seen them in person yet...
  2. ive been playing my isi-k's for 10 years now. i can fade/draw the ball on demand with the 2 iron all the way down to the 7 iron ( i dont try with anything shorter than that) and they are plenty forgiving for those days when my swing doesnt feel like clicking... i currently have a g5i anser putter, a craz-e, an anser 2, anser 4, and im about to buy a 50th anniversary anser putter.. i honestly like the feel of the old- school ping putters over the newer versions... but you can never have too many putters. i had a set of ping tour 54 and tour 58 wedges... i liked them when i got them, but ive just found i like the vokeys better, i can control the trajectory, spin, and manipulate the clubface better with the vokeys.. i dont own a ping driver and never have, but my dad has the zing blondie,g2, g5, and g10 drivers in his basement and ive hit them a few times.. they really bomb the ball. my dad has been playing ping irons for the last 26 years, he has had a basement full of karstens, eyes, eye2s, zings, zing2's, i-3, g2's (he recently sold all but the zings and g2's) and is contemplating buying a set of g10's. he will die a slow painful death before he plays any other irons but pings. its kinda funny .... while i love my irons and my dad loves anything ping... (mostly beacuse they're american made and he supports jobs in america rather than overseas) i know they're not quite the best out there.. i can really tell a difference between a cast iron and a forged one, but they aint low quality either. hope this helps... id just go out and hit every club you can get your hands on before you make your decision.. and get a proper fitting...
  3. am i the only one who sees the joke behind this??
  4. looks like im gonna have to pay them a visit....
  5. if i was his dad i'd have ordered a cavity search....
  6. lol thats funny... i thought the exact same thing when i saw the r9 commercial today. i open my driver clubface slightly sometimes when i want to play a fade.. sure.. it adds loft, but it works just fine for me.
  7. my brother and my buddy both play the tom watson wedges... my buddy has the chrome played 52,56, and 60 set.. i think he paid about 120 bucks for all 3 combined.. my brother has the black ones you're looking at.. his were around 100 bucks for the set... ive hit both wedges and compared them to my vokeys... while i like the feel and performance of my vokeys better, the watsons are actually very good wedges. if i had to do it all over again id probably have bought the chrome plated tom watson weges... all 3 for the price of one of my vokeys... im not a fan of the black ones my brother has.. they just look cheap... but they perform excellent, especially out of the rough...
  8. i hope not. copenhagen is much better i deer hunt quite a bit but dont really want anything camo in my golf bag. heck.. i hardly ever wear camo anyway.. deer are color blind.
  9. ive played several rounds with a buddys old titleist blades. i honestly did not notice much difference between them and my pings besides the mis-hits stung like hell and traveled more to the right.. but i didnt lose as many yards as everybody said i would... ball flight was lower, but distances were almost exactly the same. and my score was only 1 or 2 strokes higher compared to rounds played wiith my pings... (i blame my putting for that, not the blades though) my confidence level seems to be higher when i address a shot with the blades, and i seem to be more focused on making a good swing rather than just hitting the ball... so i can see how you would "force" yourself into playing them... i can see my game improving if i played a set of muscle backs evey time.. i used to be scared of playing them because of the things ive heard/read about them.. but after playing a few rounds with them my fears have been diminished. they're not that bad at all. not for me at least...
  10. i absolutely hate my hybrid. i cant get over the way it looks at address.. only reason i bought it was for a 195 yard par 3 at my home course that has an elevated green, i thought i needed something to launch higher and come down softer for that one hole.. but i could never get used to it. the funky look of it at address always throws me off... so i just took it out of my bag and i use my 3 iron on that hole and hope the ball doesnt run off the green.... they're saving graces for most people.. just not for me i guess...
  11. driver: 299 irons: 2-lw - 1100 putter: free fairway wood: 45 close to 1500 in the set
  12. i understand completely what you are saying. maybe pin-point accuracy wasn't the right choice of words to describe what i was trying to say... most of the gir's i miss are on super long par 5's or when i have a bad drive.. i only average 220-230 off the tee and every now and then i'll hit a bad duck hook that ends up in the trees... which compromises my game... when i do get a good drive or a reasonable lie within 175 yards or so, i almost always hit the green from there... or come close enough to where i can putt off the fringe. when i said pin-point accuracy i was referring to the fact when i address the ball with any of my irons.. especially my 2 and 3 iron, i pick out a spot on the fairway or green that i want the ball to land on.. and honestly i usually hit it within that spot the majority of the time. im in no way set on my iron game.. i could use improvement, especially when im trying to hit a fade or playing from an awkward lie... but my iron play is basically what saves me every round i play. i really need to work with my driver and putter more.. thats bout all i need to get in the single digits. when i was abouy 7 years old, my dad cut down an old 1 iron that he never used and i went to the course with him every weekend and played the par 3's with it. i got my first full cutdown iron set when i was 10 years old and it didnt include a driver or fairway wood, and when i got my isi-k's when i was 14 i still didnt have any woods, i teed off with a 1 iron every time. i didnt get my first driver untill i was 17. i'm just alot more comfortable and way more accurate with an iron in my hands than anything else. its a massive fault i know... but its yet to let me down.
  13. whats wrong with carrying a 1 iron?? id still be playing my isi-k 1 iron if it hadnt been stolen along with my old hawkeye driver, 6 iron, and 61* lw from my sunday bag at the range... (ive since replaced the 6 iron and lw thanks to clubfinders.com.. but i havent been able to find another 1 iron with the lie angle i need... i agree with everybody on these newer looking cavity back irons. most are ugly, and im sure the technology hasnt changed enough to make them any better than models from say.... 2 years ago.... i did like the look of the tm rac irons though.
  14. my 2 iron fills that 200-215 yard gap nicely. if you can play your irons fairly well.. id sugess picking one up... i carry a 4 wood with me but rarely use it.
  15. ok i come up short every now and then... give me a break.
  16. its true actually. i kill my irons most days and my wedge play is better than most people i play with... i actually play to a 14.7 hc. i put 21 down because ive been playing all winter long and i suck badly when its 20* outside and the ground and balls are rock hard and i usually change my hc here based on how im playing currently.. not my true index potential.. hit 7 of 18 gir's last weekend.. my biggest weakness is my putting. i actually missed a 4 foot putt for eagle after reaching a 492 yard par 5 in two... if i can get the flat stick to work on these bermuda greens... i'll be very happy.
  17. my swing is half stack and tilt and half home made. i use the s&t; method of pressing the shaft forward at address, and i plant the majority of my weight on my left foot at takeaway and almost all of it at impact... i had issues shifting my weight from my right and left feet with my old swing... so this works better for me... i press the shaft forward like i would do with a wedge because it promotes a draw. works well for me with my iron play.. but not with my driver. i still sweep the ball off the tee ... i could never get used to the S&T; method of swinging straight down at the ball with my driver or 4 wood... i lost a bit of distance but i now have pinpoint accuracy. and im WAY more consistent...
  18. was this the edwin watts over in huntsville, AL??
  19. a hot pink staff bag with a picture of paula creamer on it.
  20. you got it man.
  21. you sir... are a disgrace.
  22. and lastly... can anybody figure out what this means??
  23. my ping isi-k 61* lob wedge has 14.75* bounce.... no wonder im having trouble off the tightly mowed fairways around here... im about to get a new 54* and 58* wedge combo... i plan to get at least 10* bounce on the 54* but the lowest possible one i can on the 58*....
  24. yeah ive seen one of those wedges in action.. you can actually see the ball digging through the green and throwing chunks of grass and dirt up as it starts spinning back... pretty cool... but too much spin for me. id also hate to fix the 3 inch deep ball marks every time...
  25. sometimes i yell " get in the water!!" or BITE... BITE... when i see my buddy hit a ball heading towards a water hazard.... i just do it to be funny.... but thats a casual round not a tournament....
