I looked around a bit... the local country club is selling a few memberships on a silent auction starting at $1000... The thing is the dues total $375 per month... If I had a big family... or lived right on the course it would probably be tempting. The issue is here if we are looking for a cheap round I can get 9 in walking for $13 bucks. So this is what 28 9 hole rounds but since we cannot golf 3 months out of the year and in a couple of others it would be a miracle to get that many rounds in... so it would be more like 40 rounds at the $13 per 9 rate you would have to get in in a month...(without the start/joining fee) Yes there are times and situations this may make sense... but for me right now... nope...

If it was the removable pane... the one that slides... perhaps you could take it to the glass shop yourself... I bet that would save a ton... I have done it before... Drew

I picked the game back up last year after basically being out of it since high school. I am 38 and have 2 girls 7 & 9... I picked this up because their mother chose to divorce me and I actually found I had time to go out with the guys and I got hooked... Now I have my girls every other weekend and since it is just me and them I want them to come with me so I got them clubs... The USKG sets are fantastic. I have been to the range about 5 times now with them and really have helped them with grip and a few things but kids will be kids and it is important that I don't coach too much I think as I want them to not feel pressure. My 9 year old likes it more than my 7 year old but my 7 year old is the tomboy... I really wish there were a First Tee program in Utah but there are no chapters here... Does anyone know of a good book on teaching kids to golf?

Master Scotty Cameron Putters: Worth It or Not? Thread
Drew replied to JEWMAH9701's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Buy one... If you can afford it...I am a crappy golfer and getting better... I purchased a studio select 2.7 and it has made a big difference... I was actually getting to where I was putting at par (2 strokes or less) per hole at the end of the year last year... This means from not having my 2.7 to having it I have cut about 10 strokes off... Now I can tell you... I have had the strokes to give... others may not... Ultimately guys... It is fun to own something you buddies all get in arguments over the value of when they will not spend the money on one... If it were not for the countless threads just like this one and all the it is or it is not worth it kind of thing as per the value... I would have not had one and just stayed with my Costco Nicklaus putter.. I am glad to have gotten one to IMPRESS MY FRIENDS as it has... but now that my friends are impressed... I reap the reward with a much better short game due to this thing just working... and well. -
I appreciate this divergence in the conversation... I have a new bag of clubs myself and I am just totally guessing as to which ones I am going to keep in there and would love a little input. I have Cleveland HiBore XLi Hybrid Irons 3-PW (8 Clubs), 3 CG 14 Wedges in 52,56,60 - The little Niblick 47 chipper (this will not go in unless I figure that it will replace one of the other wedges or PW which it actually may, a HiBore XL 15 & a 17 Fairway wood and a Hibore XLS 11.5 Driver... And of course my Scotty Cameron 2.7 putter... So... what of these would you put in your bag?

You are likely correct... I am carrying more than 14 for the next few (non-reported) games to give this a try so I can choose which one I like better (I have to get rid of 2 clubs) here is the thing... Trying it costs about $20 bucks... (I purchased this on ebay barely used for $80) and I have seen them new on sale for $100 somewhere on line... I figure for 20 I wanted to try it... So I will... The difference between this and the chipper as I see it is this club has a back on it... Kind of like the odyssey chipper if they made a hybrid version (huge sole and lots of back) so you can really take full swings with it in the rough without it getting hung up. Also... like a putter or their chipper these things have very short shafts which changes what happens when the grass grabs at the club head... since you are more vertical the head does not really get pulled to the side and you cut through the grass without having to compensate for it a lot more easily. It is kind of strange hitting a full swing at a ball 7 inches in front of your toes but it works.

I actually was inspired to buy new wedges because of this rule change... I like the grooves zippy... I think it is a real advantage and I need that. I like to play little tournaments and figure that by the time my new CG 14s are no longer legal the grooves will be worn off. I also have contemplated for that very reason buying a second set at the end of the year or from ebay in the next couple of years. Drew

I bought one... It is AWESOME... I am 38... have a pretty high handicap and have just been seriously back into the game for the past year after a 10 year plus hiatus. I took it to the range with a bunch of other new clubs and a bunch of buddies (one is a scratch golfer) and they all poked fun... said they had wedges already etc... etc... then I hit about 20 shots about 120 yards towards a pin and hit the pin 2 times (the pin) I was accurate and it was easy to hit... by the end of the afternoon all had hit the club Many Many times... And several have already said they want one... Mine is the 42 degree club... It comes in a 37 and I have not hit that one... I only purchased it after reading a lot of good reviews. I am OK with my wedges but not perfect... I would guess that a 52 could do almost everything the niblick can in skilled hands... the difference is this is so darned easy. I can see some situations where getting out of rough under trees etc will be much easier with this than my wedges. I suggest you try one...

Well... I jumped into golf after a multi year absence last year and purchased my buddies old Cleveland CG-4s from him with the bag and drivers/fairway woods from a nicklaus set he got from Costco a few years back... I said look... if I love it I will buy real clubs after I have played a little and feel like I can be committed to it... I broke 100 once last year and played 25 times. So... this year after a new years vacation in Vegas where I watched cart after cart roll past my window at the JW marriot I said... I am ready and came home with the fever... So Far... 1 set of used Cleveland Hibore XLi Irons from ebay for $350 1 Set of New Cleveland CG 14 Black Pearl Irons 52, 56 & 60 from eBay for $205 1 New Ogio Atlas Bag (Last Years Model) From Wallys for $130 1 New Clickgear 2 Cart from Uintah Golf Locally for $189 1 Used Nickent 47 Putter Chipper (for those with high handicaps or ages) (I love it) 1 New Scotty Cameron 2.7 Putter $194 (eBay) 1 8.5 loft Cleveland Launcher (looks to have never been used) Loft is so low but with shipping it cost 20 bucks. 1 11.5 Cleveland HiBore Driver (3 year old model but new) for $80 off eBay 1 17 degree Hibore XLS Fairway Wood (New for like $70 on eBay) 1 15 degree Hibore XL fairway wood from Ebay. New Wintersof Gloves Nikon 550 Rangefinder from Cabelas Bargain Cave $150 & Most exciting are the huge selection of Ross Dress For Less Addidas, Nike Golf, Ashworth, Sean John (Ill look pimpin for sure) golf shirts and then Perry Ellis Shorts etc for about $10 Per Shirt and $3.50 per shorts (got an Ashworth v Neck Sweatshirt Vest (orange with Blue Piping) for $3.50 and the white golf shirt for underneath for $6.50... I am doing my part to stimulate the economy! Now if this dang snow would melt!!! All with stiff shafts (I swing just over 100 and climbing) The Woods are all Fujikura Yellow Shafts with low kick and are stiff.. I went and hit most of these on saturday and talk about game improvement irons... I was hitting freezing golf balls one club at least longer than I was hitting those old clevelands in August! Not only that... They are ACCURATE for me.... I am no where near finessing some curve into my shots... Please let em just go straight! But these seem to be working. I will go a bunch more and we shall see! My big goal is by lesson or a zillion hours at the range or this new magic equipment to break 90 for real by September! Play On... Drew

I carry the PW in my irons set Cleveland Hibore XLis, I carry a set of 3 CG14 wedges 52, 56 & 60 and I have been pretty happy messing around with this new Nickent 47 Putter/Pitcher thingie... I will reduce by at least one once I see what I really like the best but with new clubs and spring practice they are all in there... Drew
