I haven't been out there in a while, but I remember Crystal Falls as being a great course. Lot's of elevation changes. I heard they leveled the fairways on a few holes since I have been out there which would seem to make the course much more fair. The 2nd hole is a cool hole. I would definitely recommend checking it out. Make a day of it and play 36 and check out Avery Ranch as well. Another great course. Shadow Glen is very tough. I've played it three times and each time it kicks my butt. Tricky greens, lots of dog legs, unusual design, great opening hole, and somewhat long. It always seems to be in great shape and is the toughest course I've played in the area.

God, I love Newport Dunes. I have played all of the courses around Austin and quite a few around San Antonio, but none are as cool as Newport Dunes. I love that place and the mango towels.

I live in Kyle and play at Plum Creek once a week, sometimes more. I have pretty much played all of the local Austin courses. Love Grey Rock. Have you tried Shadow Glen in Manor. Tough. Also, how much is the city membership? What are the fees each round? I love Kizer.
  4. There are plenty of places to play in the Austin area: Grey Rock Falconhead Barton Creek has 3 courses. Shadow Glen (tough) Avery Ranch Spanish Oaks (if you know someone who can get you on) Twin Creeks I've played all of the above except the Barton Creek courses and they are all great. There are plenty of places in the San Antonio area: La Cantera Resort Course La Cantera Palmer Course The Quarry Bandit (in New Braunfels) all of those are cool golf courses as well.
  5. Newport Dunes in Port Aransas is fantastic. It is a new Arnold Palmer course that opened last October. You can hear the waves crashing from every hole on the course. It is a challenging links style course with incredible scenery, tough golf, and great location. There aren't too many other good courses in the Corpus Christi area, but you can run over to Rockport and play there, but it will not be as nice as Newport Dunes.
  6. I will second Twin Lakes in Canton. That is a great course. Since you are in Austin you should go check out Quicksand at Woodcreek in Wimberley. I was out there this afternoon and the course is in terrific shape. I will be out there again tomorrow. It is a pretty short course, but nice. Plus you get to take a drive through the hill country to get there. Pine Forest in Bastrop is nice with some terrific views and some challenging holes. I love all of the Austin muni's. Clay and Kizer are great and a terrific set-up. Grey Rock (formerly Circle C) is a great course as well. Always in great shape and they have a terrific staff.
