  1. My iron shots off the tee/fairway, with my cheap club set, pretty much 7/10 times go straight down the line. I've been wanting to create my own clubs with Golfsmith's Snake Eyes 675B clubhead line and with the Memorial Day Sale ($50 off purchases $250+) I can get them for $26 instead of $32. I was just wondering if these clubheads are used on cheaper shafts, would it cause significant undesirable results compared to a cheap clubhead on a cheap shaft?
  2. How big a difference are cheap iron golf club shafts (from a $100 club set) compared to more expensive iron club shafts (besides flex and weight)?
  3. One thing I wanted to add was that on my downswing I would let the clubhead fall on its own and my wrists would unhinge about 1/3 into the downswing. I just recently learned about clubhead lag by keeping the wrists hinged using an almost pulling motion when starting your downswing. This added about 10-15 more yards on a solid hit, but most shots were off target.
  4. I've checked ebay and there's a set (3i - pw, 8 clubs) selling for $575. If I try making it on my own it comes to about $50-$55 per club ($400-$440 total). The president's day sale doesn't apply to the 675B clubs nor to the True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts (i think). I looked in Golfsmith's catalog and was only able to find: True Temper Snake Eyes Gold 100 with Sensicore - $12.99 True Temper Snake Eyes Black 90 - $8.99 By the way the True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts are specified as low trajectory shafts, but it seems that the ball flight is much higher than my cheap golf clubs. Maybe it's because those shafts are intended for pros? Or maybe I cut off too much at the butt end of the shaft?
  5. Just wondering if anyone knows when golfsmith usually has a sale on clubmaking times. I'm looking for these items to go on sale: Snake Eyes 675B clubheads True Temper Dynamic Golf Iron Shafts
  6. I think in my swing my head is ahead/even with the ball during impact. Even if I setup the ball left of center. Should it be behind the ball?
  7. I think most of my problems occur when I try to hit fat (in order to get more distance). If I focus more on tempo most of my shots go straight and the ones that I miss hit are off about 5-10 yards left/right (w/9i). I think the times where I hit with an open club face at impact is when my hips don't clear or my hands fall behind. The times when I hit pop-ups I recall my body weight being 50-50 or more towards my back leg (baseball swing?). I went to the driving range today and tried the drill hitting the ball with your feet very close together. Using my 9i it goes about the same distance as my half swing which is around 80 yards. Does this mean that my normal swing is just utilizing the wrist/hinge as the power source? Is this what you mean by active hands? I'm not sure how to get more distance without miss-hitting shots. If I try to rotate faster I end up hitting fat. I am taking a beginner's golf course at a community college, however; and often use youtube as a learning source. driver: 150 yards 6 iron: 120 yards 9 iron (cavity back): 90-100 yards 9 iron (muscle back): 70-85 yards
  8. Standing straight up with my arms falling naturally both palms are facing each other. My left thumb is directly in line with the grip logo while my right thumb is almost directly in line (pointing slightly to the left). I'll try a stronger grip with my driver the next time I'm out on the range. I just noticed yesterday that my hips weren't clearing. My finishing swing looks like I just hit down the line (my belt buckle facing the target with my left elbow pointing to 11'o clock). If I try rotating my hips faster I finish with a swing going through the shot (my belt buckle to target with my left elbow pointing to 9'o clock). The thing is I thought I've always been rotating my hips as fast as I could. Would uncleared hips cause a slice?
  9. So I just got back from the driving range. I tried loosening my left hand grip on the down swing to let my right hand dominate and I was able to hit the ball straight. My driver on the other hand still has that straight/slice ball flight, but not as bad as before (maybe 30 yards to the right of my target). I've been trying to work on a single plane golf swing (after reading stuff online/watching videos of ben hogan) every day practicing my swing in the living room, but haven't been able to generate much power yet. Also, my left shoulder blade muscle is killing me. I'll definitely order a copy of that book, thanks!
  10. Thanks for the replies. I've been told to practice hitting 6,7,8,9 irons until I can make consistent contact with the ball. Once in a while I'll take out the driver and it usually starts out low and straight then makes a 90 degree right turn. During my practice swings I sometimes notice the over the top swing. Should I try flattening out my swing? I have a neutral club grip using an interlocking grip. On my back swing and about halfway down my down swing I use a neutral grip. Once I'm about to make contact with the ball my grip naturally tightens. I've been whipping my hands on the down swing to generate more club head speed. Is this correct technique? My back swing is just casual and I don't try swinging till my hands are a little above my hips on the down swing.
  11. I'm fairly new to golf and currently trying to work on my full swing. I have a problem with hitting really high shots, once in a while, as well as slicing the ball. I think the main problem is that my right hand is not turning over at impact. On my down swing am I supposed to push out and try to reach with my right arm in order to get it to turn over? I think my right palm is slightly facing upwards. I usually won't have this problem when trying to hit very light half swing shots, but they don't go very far. Using a cheap cavity back 9i and a full swing it only goes about 90 yards avg. Using a half swing would get me about 70-80 yards.
