Thanks for the replies.
My plan is to get a new set this winter.
Does getting fit really make that much of a difference? I am not really sure I want to go through the experience of getting fit for clubs.
For me golf is broken down into:
> the social rounds with friends and maybe a little friendly competition, but the social part is more important then the competition.
> League play where competition is first and foremost, but it's also a very social league with a great bunch of guys who shoot the bull the entire round.
I won 1 up.
My league also keeps stroke play count so if a match ends tied, the tiebreaker is net score. So you have to play out every hole even though it is match play.
I shot 41 and my opponent shot 44.
On top the next round of 8.
I have been playing a set of Wilson irons that I bought in, wait for it, 1991!!
I guess I am long overdue for a new set.
My question is: How much difference will a new set of irons make? I am a decent league golfer. Handicap around 8-10. I am assuming that all the newest technology will provide me with better results. I also seem to be lacking confidence in my irons because they are so old and the grooves are so worn down.
Any advice?
Thanks!
Love it! The best player in my league likes to proclaim what a poor putter he is just before he sinks another 20 footer for birdie. He's a good guy, so I always give him crap about this.
I have played with a friend who will have holes where he will take "X" amount of shots, but when marking his score will say "I'll take a "Y" for the hole (and "Y" is always lower than "X")
We have always just played for fun so I don't really call him out on it. Of course he has never played in a league or tournament where he would have to count his strokes with a more accurate number!!
Hi All~
The first round of my league tourney is Wednesday. My handicap is an 8, my opponent's is a 9.
Which do you prefer for a match:
1. You and opponent have the same handicap
2. Your opponent has a higher handicap
3. You have a higher handicap
I tend to prefer to have an even match. Between the other two choices I prefer to be giving strokes rather than getting strokes.
I golf in a league and the course rating is 66.9 and the slope is 119.
This past week I shot a 39 (par 36)
6 pars
3 bogeys
Putted really well for a change!
