  1. I don't take the head covers with me on the course. Not really a superstition, just a tendency. Guess i think that I will forget them or something. haha.
  2. How much the ball rolls has a lot to do with it as well. If the fairway is wet the ball won't roll as much, so I would think that a high lofted driver would work better. As for the drier fairways, the a lower lofted driver should work better, because the ball will roll a lot better on a drier fairway. I think a lot of it has to do with the conditions that you're playing. One factor such as the loft of the club. DaveLeeNC got it right as well, the loft of the face at impact is what really counts. The shaft has a lot to do with it too. From what I've seen on here that a regular shaft allows some lag time and your hands can get ahead of the club, adding a little slap to the ball. A stiff shaft keeps the club head closer to in line with your hands, requiring a faster swing to get the same slap effect. This could be wrong, but that's what I've come to gather and what I think about the subject. I idea could be flawed, but I think that it could have a little basis in reality. (Little crazy and scatterbrained this morning. haha). I'm not an expert and some of this info may be a little off, but that's just my .02, take it for what it's worth. HookEmHorns
  3. I have one glove that I like the best. I don't use one if I don't have that certain glove. If I have the glove on, I don't take it off at all. Unless I have to wait on 3 or 4 people, then I will think about taking it off. Even if I'm putting, I keep that glove on. One more, I always have to make sure that I hit in the same spot during my practice swings at least twice, if I feel kind of iffy about it, I will swing again. Sometimes it can take a little bit.. haha
  4. Ok. I know I talked about the Cleveland Irons, but I've got my eye on some Callaway X-18's on PGA tour website store. They are cheaper than the cleveland irons, and the X-20's aren't very much more. Which one would be better for a game improvement iron? Also, I went to Golf Galaxy today and saw some Cobra SZ Irons, and the S9's. I have to say, I love those irons! What do you think would do better for me of all the irons? I would have to say that the Cobra S9's are my favorite, I'm a big Cobra Golf fan. Sorry for all the questions, but when I don't have a ton of money to spend on irons, I want to get the right ones the first time. haha. College is pretty expensive! Good thing my birthday is in the middle of the summer! Thanks for all the help guys!
  5. Subscribed to this thread now! I have the exact same problem umpiremark. I know I know exactly what I need to be doing, yet I can't make myself do it... I have a problem with not wanting to move my lower body at all. I try to keep my feet planted in the same spot and not move them at all. I have been having some consistency issues with that so I guess that is how I have been dealing with that. Looking forward to some good practice drills to do to help out. One thing that I did see was to practice hitting on a downslope to get used to moving forward on your front foot.. if I find the link to the site I will put it up, but got to go to the principle golf classic now!
  6. I agree with that. But along with that, I don't actually step up to the ball until I make about 2 or 3 of the swings I want right in a row. Then just repeat the swing I had down consistently. (If that makes sense, sorry if I didn't explain it real well). Make sure after you make the swing you want, that you can repeat it before you step up to the ball, kind of basic and stuff, but I had to figure that out the hard way--on the course. lol
  7. Hey y'all, I'm looking to get some new irons, and I'm pretty much a newbie to the game. I am improving my game every time I go out there and figuring everything out pretty quickly I think. I'm pretty sure that with new irons I will have more confidence which is something that I'm definitely lacking... But my question is, which irons? I definitely want a set of Cleveland irons though. What is the difference between all the irons? I'm looking at the difference between the red and yellow or "gold" irons? I really like the yellow CG7's but I didn't know what the difference between them and the red "tour" ones were. So basically, out of my rambling, my question is: What is the difference between the red CG7 "tour" and the gold CG7 irons? Thanks!
  8. Well I was wrong in my terminology, I haven't been scooping the ball, it is more of a sweep. I have been having pretty good luck but would hitting down work better? Since it is actually using the club to do the work I would assume that it would be the better choice.
  9. Hey y'all, I have heard and seen all the posts about how to "hit down" on the ball when using irons. When everyone mentions this in the threads, they talk about their wedges and 7, 8, and 9 irons. I would like to know, but think that I know the answer, if I should do the same with the long irons (3, 4, and such). I'm assuming that I should, but I just want to make sure before I go to the driving range tomorrow and try to change my swing. I have been trying to scoop the ball so far, having the ball right where the lowest part of my swing is, or right behind it slightly, and I haven't been doing too bad really. But since I now know that I am swinging incorrectly, I am going to try to change tomorrow. (I have already tried hitting down on the ball, but I wasn't sure I was doing it right, so I went back to trying to scoop it. So it's not like I'm starting off not having the slightest clue. lol). One last thing, I watched a video last night where the guy said to keep the left wrist straight so is that correct? Should I start off with the handle in front on address or try to mess with that later? I haven't tried it yet, so it may be easier than I think. (I always have the problem of over analyzing everything.. lol). Thanks!
  10. Still figuring out my game really. I can hit the short irons a lot better than anything else.. Kind of funny I think, used to be the other way. Next time I get to the range I will have to pay attention to what distances I go... Trying to re-analyze my swing and so far it isn't working out too great... But this last time I went I to the range I figured out my short irons, but I can't for the life of me transfer my swing to my long irons and driver/woods. I know this isn't the thread for this, but if you have some helpful tips, other than get lessons.. I'm gonna work on that as soon as I can.. lol please send me a message or something. Thanks.
  11. I have been trying to figure out how high to tee the ball up.. I have been messing around with it and between trying to figure out my swing again and my tee height, I haven't figured anything out yet...
  12. Hey guys. I tend to hit my 3 wood off the tee because I can't consistently hit my driver straight. I have a steel shaft on my 3 wood and I think that the graphite shaft on my driver isn't stiff enough.. Or I just don't know how to swing the dang thing right. haha I usually hit my 3 wood straighter than my driver so I usually use it. Lately I haven't been able to hit anything except for my irons straight.. I have been trying to work on hitting my driver straight but I just can't get over my hook so I try to work on it and over analyze my swing which has just messed up what I had working... Just don't know what to do to get back to where I was before with my driver and fairway woods...
  13. I have to agree with you on that part. I went and played 9 with my girlfriend's dad yesterday and I did bad on the first few holes, but by the time I got to 6 and 7, I was doing good and figuring out my rythm for my swing and how to play again. (It was my first time out this year). I have been taking classes like crazy and it was nice to get out and have a good time playing one of the best games in the world! haha. Good job on your game, by the way, I didn't do nearly as well. I am too embarassed to put my score up, but lets just say I will do better next time. It's almost impossible not to.... I did win though, beat my girlfriend's dad by 1, that kind of helps with the extremely high score.
  14. I have some of them as well. They work pretty good but I would be careful using them with your driver, if they are ones like I have used then the driver could break them or at least make a big dent in them. lol I have also used the BirdieBalls and they are pretty cool. They go a little farther than the plastic golf balls but are definitely something to look into. I prefer them actually, as long as I can hit them off of a mat or something.
  15. Hey y'all, I have a quick question for you. Do you wear a glove when golfing? If you do wear gloves, which hand? I am right handed and don't know which hand to use a glove on, I usually put one on my left hand but my hands sweat like crazy so I didn't know if it would be better to wear two gloves to kind of avoid slipping. Any ideas? Thanks y'all, HookEmHorns
  16. Hey y'all, Is there any way to tell the flex of a shaft without having to take it anywhere to get it looked at. I don't have anywhere close to where I am to get golf equipment worked on. My girlfriend's dad just gave me a 3, 5, and 7 wood that he had. They have a graphite shaft I believe but I don't know how stiff the shaft is and if it will work for me. I will have to look at them tomorrow at the driving range I guess. (Gives me an excuse to FINALLY go golfing!) I haven't had much time to look at them, so they may have the writing on them anyway, but just in case... I believe they are a knock off of some Cobra clubs, so I don't know what they are called exactly... Any help or ideas are appreciated! Thanks!
  17. Ok. I'm pretty much new to this kind of stuff (and I've never taken lessons so take my thoughts for what they're worth). I was having, and probably still do, problems with the inconsistency in my swing as well. I noticed that I was not keeping my head still so I focused on that part, I adjusted my swing so that I didn't move my head as much, which may be a complete wrong or backwards idea, but it has been working for the most part for me. I don't use as long of a backswing, so I don't need to move my head and therefore hit the ball straighter. I figure that if I can practice focusing on one aspect of my swing I can adjust everything as it needs to be. Or I can find a coach when I get the money (college is EXPENSIVE! haha and graduate school isn't looking any cheaper. haha). But I would say that a knee brace would be a pretty good idea, and maybe use the S&T; technique with the knee brace. (If that is possible, I haven't studied that much on techniques working on golf swing). I hope you can find something of help in my rambling. lol HookEmHorns
  18. Buttah, I thought this was about the Callaway system. Have you used them or know anyone that has? It's a very interesting system but I think that it is too in-depth for me. Know anywhere that a guy could learn what to use all the different shafts and stuff for? Sorry for stealing this thread. haha.
  19. I have seen these but I haven't used them or heard anything about them. I would love to know more as well.
  20. Hey Ken, About the measurment... Should I measure standing straight up with my hands to my side or in my stance like I would with a club in my hand? Thanks, HookEmHorns
  21. Hey y'all, I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone likes to do. I know there are some people that don't use a golf cart at all and others that only use golf carts when they go to the course. Lets get a little discussion on if you want. I don't know if this has already been done or not so I just figured I would throw it out there.
  22. Hey y'all, I haven't been able to get out and play any golf yet as it has been raining like crazy here but does anyone know of any good books or videos to watch? I'm not quite a complete beginner but I am far from a professional. I just need something to help me out with all the technical parts of the game without using any technical jargon or any crap like that. lol Thanks for any help guys, HookEmHorns
  23. Hey y'all, I know that this is a complete newbie question, but how long should the shaft for clubs be for a guy that is about 5'10''? I don't know how much it really matters, as long as it is close I know, but I would just like to get some clubs with the correct length. Thanks, HookEmHorns
  24. Ok. Thanks guys! I feel like a complete idiot for asking this, but I have to know... I found these Ping G5 irons on a website and I don't really know what is included... Is it the ones that are in the table under Ping G5 Iron Specifications? All those included in the deal? I'm a real big fan of Ping clubs, not really sure why, but I just like them a lot. Thanks, y'all.
  25. I'm so big of a Texas Longhorns fan that I actually have golf balls with the Longhorns logo and TEXAS above it... So far I haven't ran into any problems, as many aren't fans of Texas up here in Missouri... haha The picture isn't actually the golf balls that I use, but they are real close to it.
